SSS Awakening: I am the First Legendary Mage

Once Tina confirmed the message, Alex put his phone away and looked toward the street ahead.

"Let’s go," Alex said, and he and Roan immediately began moving through the wrecked streets.

They moved swiftly, covering the distance toward the suspected defense line without wasting time. While they ran, Alex continued observing Roan because something about the Warrior’s movements had caught his attention.

Roan was not using Aura.

Alex was almost certain of it, and the reason was simple. For now, everyone was terrible at controlling Mana and Aura because this was the first day they had gained access to these abilities.

Mana control could be increased through the Mind stat, but there was no equivalent stat that directly improved Aura control. Alex found it strange that there was no similar stat for Warriors, but he decided to put that thought aside because there were more important things to consider.

Aura itself was not particularly difficult for Warriors to control, but it was still their first time handling it. If they used Aura to strengthen their muscles, the flow would be like a clogged pipe that released irregular amounts of water every few seconds instead of a river flowing smoothly.

This meant their enhancement was not completely consistent, so their speed and strength could differ slightly from one moment to the next. Normally, the difference would be so small that nobody could notice it, but Alex was not normal anymore. Advanced Battle Instinct Spell increased his brain’s processing ability, and after carefully observing Ophelia and Tina for several minutes earlier, Alex could see those tiny fluctuations.

Roan did not have those fluctuations, meaning he was not using Aura. There was no reason for Roan to avoid using Aura unless his Aura was extremely low. That left Alex with two possibilities: Roan was putting all his stat points into Strength, Agility, and Constitution, or he was investing in Constitution whenever he became injured while relying on Aura to temper his other physical stats.

The first option was easier and made more sense, but Alex found himself leaning toward the second possibility after looking at Roan’s body. Roan had suffered enough injuries to make his current condition obvious, yet he was still strong enough to match Alex’s physical speed, which made it difficult to believe that he had achieved his current strength by distributing his stats points between all the stats.

Even Alex was putting everything into Mana because that was the only way he could make full use of his Talent. Roan seemed to be following his own method of growth, going all in into Constitution, and Alex wanted to understand it.

The reason Alex was observing Roan so carefully was not simple curiosity. If he could understand how Warriors could grow stronger, he could use that knowledge to make the Warriors in his own faction stronger later. Factions were clearly going to be important in the future, so developing capable people around him was necessary.

The two continued moving through the ruined streets, and for several moments, everything remained quiet. There were no Wild Orcs in sight, which meant the other two groups had most likely succeeded in drawing them away from this area.

"There are no Wild Orcs. They really succeeded in luring them away," Roan muttered as they ran.

"I told you they are trustworthy," Alex said. He could not help feeling proud of his team because they had worked hard to grow stronger, and in only a few hours, they had gone from people who needed Alex’s protection to people who could actively help him.

"Maybe I should have also—"

Roan’s words suddenly stopped as his expression became serious. He came to a halt, and Alex immediately stopped as well, his eyes moving across the ruined buildings and empty streets around them. Something about this place felt wrong, although Alex could not immediately explain what it was.

Then Alex felt it. It was as if something was being taken away from him, and the strange sensation made him instinctively become alert because it reminded him of the feeling Roan had described earlier when he knew he was being watched.

Alex and Roan went on high alert as they tried to understand what was happening. Alex focused on the strange sensation inside his body, and after a few seconds, realization struck him so suddenly that chills ran down his spine.

His Will was being taken away.

Like Mana, Will could leak out of the body when a person failed to control it properly, but this was different because something was actively pulling his Will away, almost like a magnet attracting metal. While his Will remained inside his body, Alex could control it normally, but the moment it left his body, he completely lost control over it and could no longer tell where it was going.

Before Alex could figure out how to stop it, tremendous pressure suddenly smashed down on him and Roan. Alex’s body froze as Origin Energy pierced through him like countless javelins, locking his muscles in place and making even the smallest movement extremely difficult.

The Origin Energy was far stronger than what the ordinary Wild Orcs possessed. The difference was large enough that Alex immediately understood they were dealing with something much more dangerous than the Wild Orcs they had encountered before.

Then Origin Energy suddenly exploded in the distance. It did not attack them, but Alex and Roan instantly understood what it meant because it was clearly a signal calling the Wild Orcs toward their location.

"They must have been prepared for us," Alex said, barely moving his mouth because the pressure was still locking his body in place.

"Should we run away like planned?" Roan asked, also struggling to move.

"No, we will kill them first and then move," Alex answered.

Alex had told everyone that he would hide and avoid unnecessary fights, but that had never been his actual plan. He wanted to kill everything that came in his path because every battle gave him another opportunity to improve his control over Mana and understand his spells better.
