Alex was happy when he saw the notifications. Almost all of his important spells had leveled up, and this was the first time three of his spells had increased by two levels at once, while he had also mastered the Advanced Body Reinforcement spell and gained another evolution opportunity.

Yet something was bothering him.

There was something else he needed from the notifications, but he could not remember what it was. Alex stared at the screens while trying to think, but his thoughts were becoming increasingly slow, and somewhere nearby, he thought he could hear someone calling his name.

What did he need from the notifications? Was it something related to his Class?

Alex could not tell. His mind was slowly shutting down, but before he lost consciousness, he forced himself to turn over and lie on his back.

The portal entered his dimming vision as he looked toward the sky. A single thought came to his mind.

Enemy.

Wild Orc Mages had come through that portal, and more could come after them. This world had become a place where he had to kill the enemy before the enemy killed him, so that had to be what he had been thinking about.

Alex’s vision continued fading, and the figures beyond the portal became harder and harder to see, as if the portal was disconnecting but he did not focus on that thought.

He began creating two more highly compressed Lightning Rods.

His mana moved slowly, but his control remained precise. He created a proper projectile and then used the Fire Element Mana from his Fire Wand, which was still being carried beside him by the ring of condensed mana around its handle.

Alex poured more and more mana into his soul, creating Will that he used to harden the Fire Element Mana inside the projectile. He wanted to compress the payload further, and although his mind was becoming less clear with every passing second, he continued working.

Alex thought back to the blurry human-sized figure he saw beyond the portal. That thing was strong. If he wanted to kill it, then he needed an extremely powerful projectile.

Alex felt someone reach him and lift his body from the ground. He could faintly hear someone saying something to him, but his attention remained fixed on the portal as he continued pouring more mana into his soul.

The amount of Will he generated became obscene, reaching a point where it felt as though his soul might snap from the pressure. He used all of it on the projectile, causing both the mana casing and the compressed payload inside it to harden, something he had not been able to do before.

Then Alex launched it.

The projectile flew forward with a resounding bang, leaving a white streak across the sky as it traveled toward the portal. A split second later, it disappeared into the portal, and Alex finally lost consciousness.

Unknown to Alex, the portal finally closed. The commander of the invading Wild Orc tribe had died before it could completely connect the portal to its home world, but Alex had managed to fire his projectile into the portal before it fully closed.

Notifications began appearing before him again.

[Level 4 Wild Orc Mage (Mid Rank Species) killed.]

[Level 4 Wild Orc Shaman (Mid Rank Species) killed.]

After the kill notifications came more spell notifications.

[Soul Reinforcement Spell has leveled up. Level 3 → Level 5.]

[Mana Railgun Spell detected.]

[Yes/No.]

The screens continued floating in front of Alex while people from the high school rushed toward him. Shouts and screams filled the area as people tried to save him.

[Five minutes have passed. Alex Mercer has not chosen the Spell.]

[Mana Railgun Spell rejected.]

The last embers of Will that Alex had roughly pushed throughout his body while creating the final projectile settled around the Lightning Element Rune. The rune hardened, and another notification appeared before him.

[Mana Circuit Spell detected.]

[Would you like to learn Mana Circuit Spell?]

[Yes/No.]

The healers surrounded Alex and continuously used their healing abilities on his body. However, his condition was deteriorating too quickly, and even with so many healers working together, none of them had reached beyond Level 10, making their healing completely insufficient for the injuries he had suffered.

Blood continued to flow from his wounds while his body struggled to recover. The healers refused to stop, but they could already tell unless a miracle happened, he could not be saved.

[Five minutes have passed. Alex Mercer has not chosen the Spell.]

The notification remained in front of Alex, waiting for an answer that he could no longer give.

Then another notification appeared.

[System interference allowed as per A532153AS-90 user safety protocol.]

[Alex Mercer, Mana Circuit Spell will be accepted to allow you to complete your Class requirements and commence Class Evolution. After completing Class Evolution, the accumulated EXP will be consumed, which would allow you to level up and save your life through level-up healing.]

[Accepting Mana Circuit Spell.]

A moment later, another notification appeared.

[Query failed. All Spell Slots are currently in use.]

The system paused for a brief moment before delivering the final result.

[Mana Circuit Spell rejected.]
