Alex did not choose Lightning Reflex Spell immediately. Instead, he thought about it carefully. There was a reason for leaning towards this spell, one that had little to do with the spell itself and everything to do with the knowledge that would come with it.
If his assumption was correct, this spell could help him far beyond simply gaining another combat ability.
Whenever he obtained a spell through evolution, the Talent never merely handed him a new spell.
Along with the spell came knowledge of how it functioned, allowing him to understand its mana arrangement instead of blindly memorizing it. It was never complete understanding, but it was enough to use the spell properly from the moment he learned it.
That was exactly why he wanted Lightning Reflex Spell. Since the spell relied on a lightning elemental rune, learning it should also teach him how that rune worked. It might even explain how to create one, although Alex knew that was probably expecting too much.
Still, he was confident the spell would at least reveal the rune’s function. He reached that conclusion because of Elastic Thread Spell, which taught him something he had never been able to figure out on his own.
Before learning it, he had no idea how mana could be arranged into an elastic structure, but the spell simply placed that knowledge inside his mind.
The same logic should apply here. Since Lightning Reflex Spell depended on a lightning elemental rune, the spell itself had to contain enough information about that rune for the ability to function. Even if the knowledge was incomplete, it would still be far more than what he currently possessed.
That made the spell worth choosing. He still had to complete the additional requirement for his class evolution by creating an elemental rune before obtaining the Runesmith class.
The task was absurd, but because it was so unreasonable, Alex believed the reward for completing it would also be significant.
The System was cruel, but it was fair. It demanded impossible-looking challenges, yet it rewarded risks, achievements, and victories appropriately. Alex learned that lesson after completing multiple Hidden Quests, so he trusted the pattern more than most people would at the moment.
Of course, he understood the risk he was taking. The other spell choices were safer, but they were either abilities he could soon learn himself or spells that were not immediately important.
Knowledge about the lightning elemental rune, on the other hand, was both valuable and urgent because he needed to finish his class evolution as soon as possible.
Alex spent several more minutes reviewing the decision from every angle. Once he believed this was the best choice, he let out a quiet breath and nodded to himself. This time, he was prepared to accept the risk.
He reached toward the floating screen and made his selection.

The description was strange, but Alex barely reacted anymore. The System always displayed messages that made little sense, and questioning them never produced any answers. Instead, he focused on the stream of information flowing into his mind.
The knowledge settled naturally, almost like forgotten memories returning instead of something entirely new.
Alex carefully sorted through everything the spell had given him, examining each piece one after another.
A faint smile slowly appeared on his face as relief washed over him.
The spell had given him exactly what he had hoped for, even if only partially. It did not explain how to create a lightning elemental rune, nor did it fully reveal the principles behind its construction.
However, because the rune formed the foundation of Lightning Reflex Spell, the knowledge included enough information for him to understand how the rune functioned. It was incomplete knowledge, but it was exactly what he needed right now.
Once he organized everything inside his head, the process became much clearer.
An elemental rune required only two things: Mana Circuit Spell and Elemental Essence.
The second requirement was straightforward. Elemental essence simply referred to anything that naturally contained the properties of a particular element.
A fire contained fire essence. Air contained air essence. Cold contained cold essence.
Just like that, actual lightning could be used to create a lightning element rune because it obviously contained lightning essence.
Using real lightning inside his own body, however, would kill him long before the rune was completed. Lightning elemental mana carried the same essence, although in a gentler form. It was far safer and far more practical.
The information about Mana Circuit Spell interested him even more. Normally, mana dispersed the moment he released control over it, no matter how carefully he shaped it.
Mana Circuit Spell somehow condensed mana into a stable structure that remained intact for a very long time without constant maintenance.
Alex still did not understand exactly how the spell accomplished that. Lightning Reflex Spell only revealed the result because it relied on the completed rune rather than the spell that created it.
Even so, the knowledge gave him an ’idea.’
He did not possess Mana Circuit Spell, but perhaps he could imitate part of its effect through brute force.
Alex immediately began sending compressed mana to his brain to sharpen his focus. As his concentration increased, his mana control became noticeably finer, allowing him to manipulate mana with far greater precision.
Then he started forming several incredibly thin mana threads inside his body.
One by one, he wove the threads together until they became a single dense Mana Cable of highly compressed mana.
The strand was no longer completely fluid, yet it was not entirely solid either. It existed somewhere between the two states.
He guided the Mana Cable toward his heart and carefully stitched it into the organ.
Calling the process stitching wasn’t entirely accurate. Normal mana passed harmlessly through the body, while compressed mana became semi-solid, allowing it to make physical contact.
He first formed a stitch with the Mana Cable while it remained intangible. Then he compressed the mana, causing the stitch to harden and anchor itself in place.
Whenever he needed to adjust the cable’s position, he briefly relaxed the compression, repositioned the strand, and compressed it again to lock it in place.
The process demanded extraordinary precision. Different sections of the same cable required different levels of mana compression. A single miscalculation could destabilize the entire structure, causing it to collapse.
Alex knew little about the true nature of mana, but even he could tell he was attempting something absurd. Still, he never hesitated.
He continued stitching the Mana Cable into his heart.
A faint smile lingered on his face.
