Alex nodded before walking over to Miss Rae. The elderly woman had been watching him ever since he entered the store, her expression carrying the same concern as everyone else’s along with her usual faint annoyance.

Alex ignored the look and simply handed her the Gene Potential.

"This is for you," he said.

She accepted it without hesitation.

"Which stat are you planning to increase?" Alex asked.

"Constitution," she replied.

She absorbed the Gene Potential immediately. Alex quietly watched her for several moments, wondering whether anything would happen. Then both of Miss Rae’s legs twitched.

Her eyes widened in disbelief.

Alex was surprised as well. He had hoped increasing Constitution might help, but he hadn’t expected to see results so quickly. From what he understood, the injury had left her unable to move her legs for years.

"My... legs..." Miss Rae muttered.

Her lips trembled as she stared down at them. She still couldn’t stand, but her legs had moved, even if it was only slightly. That alone proved something important.

Increasing Constitution could improve physical disabilities.

Alex silently thought about the discovery. If someone with a disability became an Ascendant and continued increasing their Constitution, there was a real possibility they could eventually live a normal life again. That was information worth remembering.

The elderly lady looked ready to cry, but as soon as she noticed Alex’s gaze she quickly turned her wheelchair around, hiding her face from everyone.

"Thank you. I’ll repay you as soon as I can," she said with a bland tone.

Alex simply smiled.

Leaving her alone, he walked over to a quiet corner of the store. Ophelia soon joined him with the emergency medical kit since Sophia and Charlotta had exhausted themselves.

While they had healed the major injuries, the remaining cuts still needed ordinary treatment.

She insisted Alex remove his shirt and chainmail so she could work more easily. He relented in the end after his friends took her side.

The chainmail now had a long cut running across it from the Jade Scythe Mantis’ attack, but fortunately it was still usable. After cleaning and bandaging the smaller wounds, Ophelia helped him fasten the chainmail back into place.

Alex then reached into his backpack and pulled out a clean shirt. Ever since returning from the Land of Origin, he decided to make it a habit of carrying spare clothes. He had learned that lesson the hard way after spending far too long choosing between wearing blood-soaked rags or walking around with his booty naked.

As he pulled on the fresh shirt, he noticed Ophelia watching him unusually quietly. She seemed to have something on her mind, but didn’t interrupt while he finished dressing.

Alex didn’t feel embarrassed by the attention. Even at a lower output, Battle Instinct Spell kept his emotions calm while he used it to hold together the Elemental Rune engraved on his heart.

Once he finished adjusting his shirt, Ophelia finally spoke. "Thank you."

"You don’t need to thank me. You defeated that Doom Bull yourself," Alex replied.

"I’m talking about the other monster. I saw it appear right in front of you. It was so fast that I couldn’t even react. If you hadn’t been there, none of us would’ve made it out alive," Ophelia said.

She shivered slightly as the memory resurfaced. Alex understood what she meant, but he wasn’t sure how to respond. In the end, he simply gave her a small nod before stepping away. It was better to leave before the conversation became any more awkward.

After that, Alex gathered everyone’s attention and gave them a few simple instructions. He told them to spend the time resting, practicing their spells, or getting used to their newly increased stats while they remained inside the building.

Alex called Ophelia and Tina over separately. Since both of them used Aura, he wanted to teach them something that could improve their reaction speed. Whether they succeeded or not would depend on their own control over Aura.

He explained that Aura could be used to strengthen the neurons throughout the body, allowing signals to travel faster and increasing reaction speed.

Unlike Mana, Aura safely reinforced a Warrior’s body while it was being used, so their muscles wouldn’t tear the way his had when he first boosted his own body.

Even so, he repeatedly warned them to proceed carefully and increase the output little by little.

Aura was safer to manipulate inside the body than Mana, but that didn’t mean it was completely without risk. If they forced too much Aura into their neurons at once, there was no guarantee nothing would go wrong.

Alex couldn’t say for certain whether Aura could also damage the nervous system, so he advised them to stop immediately if they sensed anything unusual.

Ophelia listened carefully and quietly memorized everything he explained. Tina, on the other hand, kept looking at him with an increasingly suspicious expression.

The question in her eyes was obvious. How did he know neurons could be enhanced, and more importantly, how did he know there was a risk of paralysis?

Alex pretended not to notice her stare.

There was no way he was going to tell anyone that he had nearly paralyzed himself simply because he had been too curious about experimenting with Mana.

Once he was finished, Alex sat down in a quiet corner of the store. Before they continued their journey, he wanted to experiment something with Mana Blade Spell.

The battle had given him a new spell, and there was no better time to confirm his doubts.

Mana gathered in his hand before compressing into the shape of a dagger. Thanks to Mana Blade Spell, creating the construct required noticeably less mana than before, and the blade remained perfectly stable.

The spell had also taught him how to distribute the mana more efficiently, making the dagger sturdier without increasing its cost.

Alex examined the construct before focusing on the blade itself. It was thin enough to cut efficiently, so he began experimenting by making the mana inside it vibrate faster. The effect appeared, but it was weak and inconsistent. The vibrations lacked the sharpness he was aiming for.

His thoughts drifted back to the Jade Scythe Mantis. During the battle, he had copied the way its Origin Energy vibrated and reproduced the effect for a short time.

Since he had already experienced it once, recreating the same pattern with mana felt much easier than starting from scratch.

He carefully adjusted the flow of mana inside the blade. Instead of forcing the entire edge to vibrate randomly, he did so in patterns until it resembled what he remembered from the mantis.

A sharp whistling sound immediately came from the dagger as the vibrating edge sliced through the air without touching anything.

A notification appeared before him.

[Mana Blade Spell has leveled up. Level 1 → Level 2.]
