Feeling an ominous energy he couldn’t fully describe, Moon sent the Underground Bat a little further ahead.

The bat glided quietly through the cave tunnels, its oversized ears twitching constantly. It swept every direction for vibrations, footfalls, or subtle sounds that would betray an ambush position.

The death of Moon’s subordinate had changed everything.

Whatever was in the main chamber wasn’t just a large Cragbrute with no brains. Something in there could detect Curse threads. Something in there could identify a traitor in a colony. Moon wasn’t going to walk his own body into an unknown ambush after being warned that clearly.

Five minutes later, the Underground Bat stopped moving forward.

They had reached a natural junction. Four paths branched off from the central chamber ahead of them, each one leading in a different direction into the mountain’s interior.

Moon glanced at the bat.

Its ears twitched for several seconds, cataloguing the sounds coming from each of the four paths.

Moon moved toward the far left path after hearing out the underground bat’s judgement.

Rowan followed without questioning the choice. He didn’t ask why Moon had picked that specific tunnel. He simply trusted Moon’s judgment and matched his pace.

They emerged into the main chamber.

The space was massive. A natural cavern carved out by the Cragbrutes widening the original cave with their bodies and horns.

The ceiling arched high overhead, disappearing into shadow. The walls were rough stone, marked by the scarring patterns of beasts scraping their horns against them.

The remaining Cragbrutes stood in formation.

Tens of them arranged themselves in a wide line across the far side of the chamber. Like a great wall. Their bodies pressed shoulder to shoulder.

Their horns lowered. Their eyes locked forward.

Behind the wall of beasts stood the largest Cragbrute Moon had ever seen.

Its body was easily half again the size of any other beast in the room. Its skin a shade darker than the rest.

A third horn grew from the center of its forehead, longer and more pronounced than the two standard horns.

Its aura was at a completely different tier from the rest of its colony.

’So that’s the boss.’

Moon’s eyes locked onto the alpha.

He would be lying if he said he wasn’t curious about how the alpha had figured out there was a traitor in its ranks.

There should have been no external tells that the alpha could have detected through ordinary observation.

’There’s only one way to figure it out.’

He would find out through the fight.

Moon waited.

The alpha waited.

None of them moved, evaluating each other across the space before committing to any attack.

Moon was the first to make a move, summoning his sword.

Then his hand moved to his storage ring and pulled a second sword free.

Rowan’s eyes widened.

’He’s using two swords?’

Using one was already impressive enough. Using two required significantly more than being ambidextrous.

’Time to put my only Spirit skill to the test. Dual Wielding.’

Moon had received that Spirit skill after killing the Pavilion Spirit.

The Spirit skill activated, allowing his two sword arms to operate as independent combat units.

Moon cast a wind spell on Rowan first. Rowan closed his ears with his hands as an additional precaution. Clearly understanding what Moon was planning to do.

Moon moved.

The Underground Bat, still positioned above them in the cave’s shadow, released a shrill cry the moment Moon began his charge.

The sound tore through the entire chamber. It resonated off every wall, and surface.

The Cragbrutes’ massive skulls caught the sound from every direction at once, unable to shield their ears against it.

Bellows of pain and frustration erupted across the formation.

The wall of Cragbrutes broke.

They charged forward with their heads shaking, disoriented from the sound strike. Moon met the first wave with both swords already moving.

The dance of two blades began.

His left sword caught the first Cragbrute’s horn on the flat and redirected the charge past his shoulder.

His right sword came around simultaneously and drove into the beast’s exposed flank, opening a deep wound.

His left blade continued its motion and slashed across a second Cragbrute’s throat as it charged past. His right blade caught a third’s leg at the knee, severing the tendon and dropping the beast to its side.

Every motion flowed into the next.

He moved around nimbly, using his exceptional footwork to evade most attacks of the Cragbrutes.

When one beast committed to a horn strike, he was already stepping past it. When another tried to trample him, he was already on the beast’s flank cutting its ribs.

Two swords meant he could attack and defend simultaneously.

His left blade blocked. His right blade cut.

His right blade blocked. His left blade cut.

The combinations layered on top of each other gracefully.

Tempest Symphony wove through the sequences with Phantom Strike layering illusory cuts alongside every real strike. The Cragbrutes’ defenses cracked under his powerful skillset.

Rowan fired arrows from the edge of the chamber, protected by the Underground Bat which had descended to hover beside him under Moon’s order.

Any Cragbrute that broke past Moon’s guard toward Rowan’s position received a wing spike from the bat or a well-placed arrow to the eye, followed by a shriek that disoriented it.

Within a single minute, ten Cragbrutes lay dead across the chamber floor.

The alpha stood watching the entire time.

Its three-horned head tilted subtly as the fight unfolded. Its eyes tracked every one of Moon’s movements, running internal calculations.

It didn’t intervene despite the death of its kins.

Then, once the first minute of the fight concluded, it moved.

It stepped forward.

The remaining Cragbrutes that had been held in reserve moved with it.

All of them charged Moon at once. The entire remaining force of the colony converged on his position, including the alpha itself.

Moon didn’t panic.

He knew that this many Cragbrutes could trample him to death if he made a single mistake.

Within moments, his entire field of vision was filled with nothing but Cragbrutes.
