Kael’s expression immediately darkened after hearing the final part of the offer.

A partnership deal?

That was hardly a partnership.

It was a crippling contract disguised with a polite name.

Agreeing to something like that would practically cripple the Mothlight Guild before it had even gotten the chance to establish itself. If they accepted the deal, they might as well hand over one of the most important foundations of the guild’s future development to another organization.

Rifts were the backbone of any guild.

That fact could never be overstated.

A Rift wasn’t merely a place where Hunters went to kill monsters and gain experience. Every Rift contained areas rich in natural resources, and those areas were essentially gold mines for guilds. Rare minerals, plants, monster materials, ores, and countless other resources could be extracted from them, many of which could be sold for enormous sums or used directly by the guild.

That was why Rift access was heavily regulated.

The permits issued to Hunters entering a guild-controlled Rift generally allowed them to hunt monsters within the unrestricted areas and collect any wild resources they happened to encounter along the way. But the restricted areas were an entirely different matter.

Those places were off-limits.

They contained the most valuable resources within the Rift, and guilds relied heavily on them as one of their primary sources of revenue. Allowing random Hunters to freely enter those areas would be no different from allowing strangers to walk into a guild’s treasury and take whatever they wanted.

The Dark Angel Mercenary Group wanted unlimited access to every Rift controlled by the Mothlight Guild for ten whole years.

And in exchange, all they offered was a measly ten percent discount on their services.

It was absurd.

Kael’s eyes narrowed.

Whoever came up with that proposal either thought the Mothlight Guild was an idiot or was deliberately testing how far they could push them.

Joy continued before Kael could say anything.

"Of course, I tried rejecting the offer politely, but they don’t seem to take no for an answer."

Her voice carried a hint of irritation.

"They said they’ll come back in a few days to get our answer."

Kael’s brows furrowed.

A faint trace of anger began to build within him.

The offer itself was already disrespectful enough.

But refusing to accept their rejection?

That was an entirely different level of disrespect.

It was clear that the Dark Angel Mercenary Group didn’t take the newly established Mothlight Guild seriously.

Perhaps they thought the guild was too young to understand the value of what they were offering away.

Or perhaps they simply believed the Mothlight Guild wouldn’t dare refuse them.

Either way, Kael didn’t particularly care.

"Alright."

His voice was calm again, but there was a coldness beneath it.

"When they come back, let me know."

"Understood, Guild Master."

Kael leaned back against the headboard.

"By the way, how is Dun doing?"

"Dun?"

Joy’s tone immediately relaxed.

"He seems to be doing alright. He’s currently focused on establishing the research facility. He’s become quite popular since the launch, so he’s trying to make good use of the attention."

She paused.

"Last I heard, he’s been recruiting people from different medical specializations to work at the laboratory."

"Good. Good."

Kael nodded.

That was exactly what he wanted to hear.

The Mothlight Guild was gradually taking shape, piece by piece. All that remained now was to wait and see how it all developed.

The call continued for a while longer, with Joy filling Kael in on several other matters concerning the guild. Most of them were small details that didn’t require his immediate attention, but Kael listened regardless, occasionally asking a question or giving a brief instruction whenever necessary.

Eventually, the conversation came to an end.

Kael paused for a moment before continuing to scroll.

There were still plenty of messages waiting for him.

The first one that caught his attention was from Jonas.

Kael opened it.

Most of the message consisted of Jonas apologizing.

He seemed to be carrying quite a bit of guilt over what had happened. After all, he had been the one who connected Kael with the Rift exploration mission in the first place.

Kael couldn’t help but sigh.

He quickly typed out a response, assuring Jonas that he was fine and telling him not to blame himself for what happened. The Rift wasn’t something Jonas could have predicted, and feeling guilty over it wouldn’t change anything.

After sending the message, Kael moved on.

There were messages from Zoey and Adam.

Both of them were clearly worried about him.

Kael couldn’t help smiling as he read through their messages.

There was something strangely comforting about knowing that people cared enough to worry when he was injured. He had never really thought much about it before, but being on the receiving end of that concern felt surprisingly good.

He replied to both of them, reassuring them that he was fine and had already been discharged from the hospital.

Then he moved on to the next message.

This one came from the Spectre Guild.

Kael opened it.

The message informed him that his armor upgrade had already been completed. They simply needed to know whether he wanted the finished equipment delivered to an address of his choosing or whether he intended to collect it personally.

Kael didn’t even need to think about it.

Delivery.

There was no reason to waste his time traveling all the way there when someone could simply bring it to him.

He entered his shipping address and confirmed the request.

Kael was just about to continue checking his messages when a knock came from the door.

"Hey, bro."

It was Lyra.

"Dinner is ready."

Kael looked up.

"Okay."

He placed his phone on the bed and stood.

Only then did he realize how much time had passed.

It was already night.

He had been so focused on sorting through the messages and catching up on everything that he hadn’t even noticed the change in time.

Kael opened the door and stepped into the hallway.

The moment he did, a thick aroma of food immediately assaulted his senses.

His stomach rumbled.

Kael’s eyes instinctively shifted toward the kitchen.

The smell was coming from there.

He followed it.

When he finally reached the kitchen, Kael stopped in his tracks.

The dining table was packed with food.

Dish after dish had been arranged across the entire table, leaving barely any empty space between them. There was enough food sitting there to feed several people, and the sight left Kael genuinely confused.

He slowly turned toward Lyra.

"What’s going on?"

He pointed toward the table.

"Are we having guests that I’m unaware of?"

Lyra simply glared at him.

"Shut up and sit down."

Kael immediately sat.

There was never too much of Lyra’s cooking anyway.
