Pooland wanted to refute Leon, but seeing the genuine admiration on his face, he closed his mouth. He could only nod his head along. "I see, brother. Unfortunately, I do not have any older sister."
"It doesn’t matter." Leon smirked, patting Pooland’s shoulder. Instead, he asked with curiosity. "But do you have any lonely aunt?"
"Huh?"
...
"Thank you, lads. I will remember your name. I hope you don’t abandon us like the previous guys." An elderly old woman supported herself with a crutch, speaking with concern in her voice.
Pooland patted his chest and spoke with absolute confidence. "Don’t worry, Grandma Lily. We promise we will always watch over your flower shop and routinely check on you. We will make these streets as safe as the emperor’s palace!"
Leon, standing behind, watched the granny give kind words of advice to Pooland. They have cleared almost all the shops and residents in streets 11, 12, and 13. The only places left to visit were Elara’s Tailor Shop and the old man’s jewelry shop.
Of course, Leon doesn’t have to go check up on Elara’s tailor shop, as he is the man of the house now. So, the place left for them was the old man’s jewelry shop.
’I don’t know what kind of help that old man needed from me and the promise of returning his wealth. Well, I will just tell him what I told the other victims. Just go ask Commander Aldric Vayne.’ Leon thought to himself, looking at the red roses dancing on the shelves.
The old man’s jewelry shop.
"Oh, so you finally became a city guard. Congrats." The old man nodded his head in approval while glancing at Leon and Pooland. Especially Leon, whom he felt had his vitality increased once again.
"Thank you, old man." Leon bowed slightly.
"Don’t call me old man. Call me Uncle Richard." The old man spoke sternly. "Also, what about my wealth? Have you retrieved every single piece of them?"
"Ol—I mean, Uncle Richard. You don’t have to worry. I have brought back all of your stolen wealth. It’s just, if you want to get it, you have to go ask the commander yourself," Leon answered, rubbing the back of his head.
"You want to go get it myself? Have you seen my crackling bones? Do you expect me to walk all the way up there?" Uncle Richard shouted angrily. His withered skin was contracting as he spoke.
"But we can’t get it ourselves. We are on duty..."
Leon tried to calm Uncle Richard down, but he wouldn’t listen. He pointed a finger at Pooland’s confused face and ordered. "You just made a great promise to help us. So, go bring my stolen wealth from your commander. I do not want to see a single piece missing."
"But...but it is late at night. We will be off duty in a while." Pooland awkwardly spoke. He didn’t want to do heavy lifting now. He wanted to get a good night’s rest, hugging his wives.
Uncle Richard squinted his eyes at Pooland and said words slowly. "Looks like the new city guards are not that good. I have to remind the commander..."
Uncle Richard didn’t have to finish, as he said with a resolute face. "Uncle Richard, what are you talking about? Helping you is my duty. No, our duty as city guards. There is no day and night for us. Uncle Richard, you just stay patient. I will bring all of your wealth safely and soundly."
Pooland walked away with long strides as if he were going to war.
Leon stood alone, left speechless. The memory of Earth flashed in his mind, where the grandpa—who owned a dumpling shop—ordered around and blackmailed the local police every day.
After Pooland left, Uncle Richard looked at Leon and said. "Why are you making that face? Are you trying to forget about my second promise? If you forgot then I have to—"
"Uncle Richard." Leon patted his chest and brought a smile to his face. "How can I forget that? Tell me what I need to do."
Uncle Richard didn’t bring the request immediately. Instead, he asked. "Looking at my jewelry shop, aren’t you curious why I don’t have any of my son or daughter working?"
"Uhhh...Yes." Leon was stumped by this question. He had noticed that the jewelry shop was a wealthy heritage and the offspring should be greatly interested in inheriting it. What better way was there than always staying by your father’s side and buttering him up constantly?
However, Leon hasn’t seen a single one of them in the shop, not even his wives.
"I have 8 children from my three wives who sadly passed away." Uncle Richard said with reminiscence. "I had placed great hope on them. Praying they would try to reach a higher level of life than rotting away in the jewelry shop. However, fate had other plans. All of them became useless. The daughters were swayed away by men easily and married as fast as possible. I wouldn’t mind that, but they completely isolated themselves from me after getting married."
"Then the sons. It would have been better if they had also left me just like my daughter, but they are still lingering around. All of them became gambling addicts, wasting my money in dirty street corners, and I can’t even throw them out. If I do, what else will I have left with?"
Leon stared at Uncle Richard’s glistening eyes. He could also hear from his quivering tone how much trouble his children had given to him. He deeply sympathized with him. But...what has anything to do with him?
"The reason I am telling you this is because I have not lost hope. I still have my youngest wife alive. She might be 43 years old now, but she is still a beauty. You don’t know how much I wanted to have a child with her. Unfortunately, I was already out of energy. No matter what I tried, it wouldn’t help."
