"Yes."

"Nine days."

"Yes."
"The math, Glen. One stabilization against eleven reversions. Even if the hybrid works perfectly, you’re net negative. The court gains ten relays for every one you cut."
"I know."

"What if the hybrid changes more than one Tower?" he said.
Caleb stopped. "What do you mean?"
"The hybrid Tower is both bridge and extraction engine. The System’s infrastructure survives. The bridge is active. The court’s signal is managed — structured, not eliminated. But what if the hybrid state does something else? What if it stabilizes the network around it?"
"How?"
"The bridge function carries pre-System energy in both directions. The extraction engine processes System-regulated mana. Both coexist. But the bridge also connects to the ley-line network. If the bridge is stable — if it’s self-regulating — it creates a resonance point. A stable node in the network. The ley-lines connected to that node carry the stable frequency outward. Caleb’s eyes widened. "You’re talking about cascade stabilization. One hybrid Tower stabilizes the ley-lines around it, which stabilizes the Towers connected to those ley-lines."
"Arthur’s notes. The seventh tablet. The section you haven’t read yet. Mary showed me last night. Arthur theorized that a properly stabilized bridge would propagate its frequency through the ley-line network. Not instantly — it takes time. But a hybrid Tower in equilibrium would stabilize every Tower within its ley-line radius."
Caleb set the tablet down. He took his glasses off, cleaned them on his shirt, put them back on. A tell Glen had learned to read — the analytical mind was shifting gears, moving from recording to computing.

Caleb pulled up the network map and overlaid the ley-line topology. Flickering. Three hundred and four kilometers south." He paused. "Outside. Just. But if Arthur’s ’maybe more’ holds — if the attenuation is shallower than his conservative estimate — Nairobi is reachable."
"Don’t count Nairobi. Not yet."
"Conservative, then. Kampala. Flickering. Two hundred and sixty-seven kilometers southwest. Within range. The South Sudan convergence — there’s a reverted Tower at Juba. One hundred and ninety kilometers. Within range. That’s five. Plus two more I’m seeing on secondary lines — Dire Dawa, reverted, one hundred and forty kilometers east. And a stable Tower at Bahir Dar, one hundred and seventy kilometers north. Bahir Dar is already stable, so the cascade would reinforce it, not change its status."
"Five reachable. Two reverted — Djibouti and Juba. Three flickering — Khartoum, Kampala, and Dire Dawa. Dire Dawa’s close. It would respond fastest."
"Five Towers stabilized through cascade. Plus Addis Ababa itself. Six total. If Nairobi falls within an extended radius, seven." Caleb’s voice had gone flat — the tone it took when the numbers were running and he was reading them off like a tape. "Five relays cut. Three flickering Towers pulled back from reversion. The reroute fails because there’s nothing to reroute to — the regional cluster collapses."

"And if the bridge doesn’t hold?"

Six hundred million was a number. Numbers were what Caleb worked with. Glen worked with something else — the weight of what the number represented. The pressure on the ley-lines. The count of lives inside those Towers’ zones was smaller than the count of lives outside them. The cascade wouldn’t save everyone. It would save the ones it could reach.
The count was what it was. Fourteen against four. The court ahead. Glen behind. The math saying he couldn’t win.
But math didn’t know about the hybrid. Math didn’t know about Arthur’s theory. Math didn’t know what the Tower had made.
