Human Territory, Sector 67

In the large open ground of Morning Glory School, hundreds of students dressed in pure white clothing stood in neat rows, frozen in place with nervous expressions on their faces, waiting for their names to be announced by the head teacher.

In the center stood a large stage constructed entirely from mana stones. As the head teacher activated the mana-infused formation, the entire stage lit up, releasing multicolored light in a rhythmic pattern.

This was not the first time the students of Morning Glory School had witnessed the grand talent-awakening formation. No one knew how it functioned, but according to the theory taught in school, for a very brief moment the formation flooded the young body with a million times more mana than it could normally handle. This extreme shock forced the body to adapt at a very molecular level in order to survive.

As the body adapted, there was a chance of mutation, and this mutation was famously called talent. Considering all these things, a young student’s physical fitness level became extremely critical in determining the grade of their talent.

The two students dressed in black were the ones with the highest fitness scores, both inching very close to a perfect ten. With such high fitness scores, their chance of awakening a high-grade talent was terrifyingly high. If even one of them awakened a good talent, not only would their life change, but the resources allocated to Morning Glory School would also increase.

Awakening a strong talent could change a person’s life overnight. A good talent could help them join the elites who decided the fate of humanity, while those with ordinary talent would have to live ordinary lives, eventually dying under the claws of random monsters.

On such a significant event, there should have been excitement or anticipation on their faces. However, on the contrary, the faces of every student were lowered, their expressions frustrated. From time to time, their gazes would move toward the pair of students dressed in black clothing, the boy and the girl, focusing on the boy with clear envy.

This was absolutely undesirable. Not only was he handsome, but he was also talented.

Jackson paid no heed to all the attention he received. He was already used to it. His mind was focused on something else entirely.

"Forgive me, Father, for making you suffer for so long... Just one minute, and I will make all of them pay with their blood."

Jackson’s heart surged with vengeance. He could almost imagine the people who had wronged his family.

Goldenstache family, count your days!

Before his thoughts could spiral out of control, he heard the head teacher’s deep voice thunder right beside his ear.

The awakening ceremony had been going on for half an hour, yet not even a triple-resonance talent had appeared. At this rate, the awakening ceremony was going to be a complete disaster.

On the stage, another young girl with a freckled face walked up. The formation pulsed twice, and for a very brief moment, a faint phantom of a grasshopper chewing on grass appeared. Witnessing this, the faces of everyone present fell.

"Two-resonance talent, Green Grasshopper..."

The formation rippled once more, and a few words appeared floating on blue windows. No one except the young woman could witness this status window. The young girl did not pay attention to the window. In her eyes, the worried looks of her fellow students and teachers were like a heavy thunder she could not bear. She fainted.

The medics quickly carried her off the stage, and the ceremony continued. The highest grade so far was a three-resonance Fireball talent. At this rate, the awakening ceremony was going to be a complete disaster.

The face of Head Teacher Okinawa had turned extremely dark. Looking at the long list of people, his expression finally changed, and a hopeful look appeared in his eyes.

"Grace White, please come to the stage."

Once the name was called, the murmuring immediately died down, and the eyes of hundreds of students fell on the female dressed in black, standing beside the handsome youth.

Hearing her name, Grace looked at the young boy beside her with a slightly nervous smile. Jackson noticed her expression and reassured her.

"Why are you worried? We’ve been preparing for this day for years. Your fitness score is only slightly below mine. Don’t worry, I’m sure you’ll awaken at least a five-resonance talent. Who knows, you might even awaken the legendary six-resonance talent."

Jackson and Grace had been together for years, studying and training side by side. The two had developed feelings for each other, so they had actually begun a relationship five years ago. But lately, he had started to notice her acting strangely for some reason. That familiar feeling again... Jackson noticed a strange look flashing through Grace’s eyes when he mentioned her physical fitness score.

Grace was his partner, so he did his best to relieve her worries. Without hesitation, Grace walked step by step to the stage.

Once she reached the stage, Head Teacher Okinawa asked in a gentle voice, "Are you ready?"

This sight was a rare one. In the dreams of those present, the always fierce and brutal teacher had never spoken so kindly.

Grace clenched her fist tightly and nodded. Her gaze shifted back to Jackson’s figure, and when she looked at him with that reassuring expression, for some reason her expression changed.

The head teacher noticed this small interaction and smiled before starting the formation.

Ring!

With a soft chime, the white stage suddenly lit up as thousands of runes came to life.

As the flowing beam of mana shot through her body, Grace felt every single pore in her body light up. At that very moment, the beam above her head transformed into a large flock of fiery phoenixes flying through the skies. Her eyes filled with majesty as she scanned the entire crowd, and for a small moment, every single soul present felt the cry of the phoenix ring in their ears.

The scene repeated six times.

A six-resonance talent!

For a moment, there was silence on the ground. Then, suddenly, a storm of excitement erupted.

"Oh my heavens, am I playing tricks on myself, or did our school really awaken a six-resonance talent?"

"This has to be a joke. Not even a single six-resonance talent had appeared in the entire Sector 67 for years!"

The young boy looked at her with admiration, while the girls’ eyes flashed with a tinge of jealousy, but overall everyone felt happy.

Jackson was no different. He felt sincerely happy for his partner. With such an incredible talent, she was bound to become a major figure in the future, saving millions of lives on the battlefield.

Head Teacher Okinawa grinned from ear to ear as he congratulated Grace with a hearty laugh.

"Grace White, congratulations. Fire Phoenix is one of the most sought-after talents among the largest hundred organizations known for its clear healing ability. You are bound to become famous throughout the human territory."

Hearing the words of praise, Grace nodded. For the first time, a genuine smile appeared on her face.

She had finally done it. The year of effort had been worth it. However, the confidence that had once bloomed in her heart quickly diminished when her eyes landed on Jackson. Not just the eyes of the entire crowd, but also the eyes of everyone present, were filled with one question: if the second-ranked student awakened the legendary six-resonance Fire Phoenix talent, what would the first talent holder awaken? Another six-resonance talent? Or maybe even a seven-resonance one? No, they did not even dare to think about that.

The appearance of every single seven-resonance talent was a world-shaking event. The appearance of one could change the entire landscape of human territory.

Once Grace walked down the stairs, Jackson walked to the stage with a fierce look on his face. Midway, the two crossed paths and nodded at each other.

Jackson stood at the center. Head Teacher Okinawa did not say anything, but simply nodded indifferently. However, Jackson could see the burning look of anticipation hidden deep in the old man’s eyes.

Just like him, the head teacher was also eager to know what kind of talent the first-ranked student would awaken.

Taking a deep breath, Jackson silently muttered under his breath as the blue window materialized in front of his eyes.

[Name - Jackson Von Maximus]

[Age - 16]

[Talent - ...]

[Realm - Mortal]

[Spiritual Force - 0]

[Mana - 0.99]

It was a simple and crisp window, giving all the information that was necessary. But just at this time, the beam of mana hit him, and something on the window changed.

However, Jackson’s eyebrows twitched at something. A gigantic golden feathered brush flared above his head. The formation pulsed five times straight in a row, the moments causing bursts of excitement among the others.

Was there going to be another six-resonance talent?

But just as everyone waited, the formation dissipated into light, fading into the sky.

Witnessing the scene, the faces of everyone present changed. Immediately, gloating and relieved expressions appeared on their faces.

So much for a top student. Tch, not even able to awaken a six-resonance talent...

If I had worked hard, I might have awakened the seven-resonance talent.

The world of the fellow students was harsh enough to crush Jackson down.

For some reason, Grace’s expression rippled, happiness burning on her face.

Meanwhile, Jackson’s expression was completely blank.

He stood there stunned, seeming unable to accept the situation.

Head Teacher Okinawa looked at Jackson and could not help but sigh.

The higher the expectation, the greater the fall. He himself had been expecting Jackson to break all records, but alas.

Although not as good as Grace’s, a five-resonance talent was still good.

Head Teacher Okinawa was not particularly disappointed. His gaze then shifted to Grace in the distance. They had already gotten a golden goose they were hoping for; they would simply have to live with the result.

He did not disturb Jackson and announced the ceremony’s end.

Immediately after these words, over a dozen men and women dressed in black suits rushed toward the students with eager expressions on their faces.

These people were guild members looking for new recruits.
