With the help of daily meditation sessions fueled by the pills, and now these two cores, both of the primary stats had grown significantly. At this rate, reaching the peak of First Sequence by the month’s end didn’t seem like a big deal.
Looking at the status window, countless thoughts surged through his head like lightning. At some point Jackson’s fists were tightly clenched, as an ambitious thought popped up in his head.
Why not aim for Second Sequence...?
The moment this thought appeared in his mind, Jackson found it difficult to control himself. In a few moments, it was the only thing he could think about.
Finally, after a breath of time, Jackson let out a long breath, allowing his nerves to relax, a look of determination flashing in his eyes.
Second Sequence it was.
By now he was a hundred percent confident in achieving the peak of First Sequence in just two weeks, half the time he had originally estimated, so now it was only natural for him to aim higher.
It was only when his heart regained its original calmness, Jackson’s thoughts shifted to the new talent that he had copied from the First Sequence minotaur.
Aura of Slaughter...?
Jackson’s thoughts were slightly puzzled. He knew a little bit about minotaurs, and as such he was confused.
Usually most minotaurs would have Surging Strength as their talent, a talent that could double their strength for a short amount of time. This was his first time seeing a minotaur with such a talent, and so he had decided to copy it to his own status window before killing it.
Just as he focused on the talent, the space in front of his eyes rippled and another window appeared before him.
[Aura of Slaughter (Seven-Resonance Talent) — A talent unique to corrupted beings; for each successful kill, the user’s attack is increased by one percent.]
One percent...!
Jackson’s thoughts surged.
One percent increase wasn’t much, but if it could be stacked hundreds of times, then it would definitely be significant.
If this talent didn’t have any upper ceiling, Jackson would have gained another decent ability.
After another look, he dismissed the status window with eager anticipation for tomorrow.
He wanted to check just how much this talent could enhance his strength.
...
While Jackson was assessing his gains, the outside world had completely forgotten about Bitter Rain, the public discussion shifting to a newer topic. All the forums discussing Bitter Rain were buried deep into the internet.
However, while the general public had forgotten about the rising talent, bigger organizations and corporations did not forget everything so easily, especially things that could benefit them.
In one of the prosperous districts of Sector Sixty-Seven, a figure with heavy glasses on the bridge of his nose made his way deeper into the laboratory. Wherever he passed through, the other researchers moved to the side like the Red Sea parting for Moses.
If Jackson had been there, he would have easily identified this man, as it was none other than Monroe Bigwing from the interview that day.
Monroe only stopped when he entered a large white room filled with multiple glass cylinders rising into the sky. Each of these contained multiple awakened with unique talents that his organization had managed to recruit over time.
Some of them had been inside these glass columns for hundreds of years, helping Monroe Bigwing’s research advance by leaps and bounds.
Just as Monroe Bigwing waited, a figure dressed in black battle armor walked inside, stopping only when he stood right in front of Monroe. The seemingly frail-looking Monroe didn’t even do much as blink, calmly focusing on the task at hand.
The figure in battle armor was already used to Monroe’s behavior, so he waited for Monroe to finish.
It was only ten minutes later that Monroe stopped with a disappointed sigh.
"Sigh... even after years of hard work, it is futile to refine the formula for mass-producing the Life Transformation Pill!"
At the mention of the Life Transformation Pill, the figure in black armor showed a slight ripple, seemingly moved.
Life Transformation was one of the most important and precious materials needed to break through the first true limit of power and become a great Fourth Sequence awakener.
The man in battle armor had been stuck at the peak of Third Sequence for ten years, unable to break through.
However, if he could get his hands on the Life Transformation Pills, he could easily cross this hurdle.
Unfortunately, getting one’s hands on such pills was very difficult. It was one of the things that money could not buy, simply because there was too much demand and too little supply.
Monroe Bigwing had been trying for years to create a formula that could allow bulk manufacturing of the Life Transformation Pills, but he had failed every single time.
The situation had forced someone as stubborn as Monroe to think about scrapping the idea, but a few days ago he had finally seen something that gave him hope.
Shaking his head, Monroe turned to look at the man in battle armor.
Although he did not say anything, the man in battle armor understood what he wanted to know.
"There is no clue. The Hunter Association refused to cooperate. They said no matter what, they will not reveal the identity of anyone registered in the virtual space."
As if expecting the answer, a dark scowl appeared on Monroe’s face, his eyes filled with deep disgust.
"Damn this Hunter Association, always getting in my way. Don’t they know that if we could hire this Bitter Rain, how much humanity’s strength would increase as a whole?"
Although Monroe said these words, deep in his heart he knew complaining wasn’t going to change anything.
He could not change the way in which the Hunter Association operated.
After all, only a human heart could be moved by benefits, and the Hunter Association wasn’t human.
Thinking about all this made Monroe’s head hurt, and he could only let out another sigh.
After a brief moment, his face returned to its usual calculative indifference.
"Confirm that he is only an Iron-Rank hunter. Give me all the names of those who awakened this month."
"I refuse to believe that I will not be able to find this so-called Bitter Rain."
