SSS Talent: I Can Rewrite Reality

Chapter 9: Nothing According to the Plan

Danger and opportunity existed side by side. Just like Jackson, dozens of other awakened ignored the danger and moved deeper into the forest.

None of the people here were stupid or cowardly. They knew how to weigh the risks and work for the opportunity.

The sudden appearance of rogue Minotaurs had pushed a lot of awakened out. This drop in awakened population created an opportunity where the prey was abundant but the hunters were few. At this time, if they could avoid the Minotaurs, they could earn quite a huge amount of money.

Jackson could also do this calculation in his head, but compared to others, the danger he was facing was greater.

None of the hunters out here were at the early first sequence like him. They were either in the late or peak stage of the first-sequence realm. If they were careful enough, they could easily avoid the danger.

On the other hand, for Jackson, every single monster encounter posed a life-threatening threat.

Jackson continued to move carefully for half an hour. When he found a suitable hiding spot on top of a giant tree, he stopped to catch his breath and also analyze the surroundings.

Looking around, he spotted quite a few trees covered with dark brown vines.

Vitality-leeching vines... hmm, I have finally entered the territory of the Blue-Horned Deer.

These vitality-leeching vines absorbed the vitality from the trees and easily became the favorite food of the Blue-Horned Deer.

If there were vitality-leeching vines around, Blue-Horned Deer would also be nearby.

Jackson had not arrived here randomly, but after doing a full cost analysis. While hunting other monsters, he would only get monster cores and fewer body parts to sell. But not only was the Blue-Horned Deer’s beast core valuable, its horns were also in high demand.

So he could maximize his earnings by hunting the deer.

At least, that was the plan.

After drinking a few drops of water, he called out the status window to take a look.

[Name - Jackson Von Maximus]

[Age - 16]

[Talent - Highly Intelligent Machine]

[Realm - Mortal]

[Spiritual Force - 1.3]

[Mana - 0.99]

He summoned the golden brush and brought it directly above the spiritual force, but the number did not even budge, remaining exactly as it was.

I really can’t change these stat numbers directly...!

Jackson muttered in mild disappointment. However, upon further thought, if he really could do this, then it would just be too broken. He could easily raise his strength to the peak of the first sequence without any suspense at all.

Still, for some reason, he did not lose hope.

Maybe once my spiritual force reaches a certain level, I will be able to pull it off.

Jackson inwardly mused while taking a moment to rest. Five minutes later, he was ready to move.

He had been continuously moving for another half hour. With the talent Highly Intelligent Machine, his brain processed information faster than a machine, looking at clues and analyzing useful details.

Just then, he spotted something interesting. A slightly gooey brown liquid had splashed onto the surface. One look was enough for his mind to retrieve a crucial piece of information.

Fresh feces. From the excess liquid present in the brown waste, the Blue-Horned Deer is almost suffering from a diarrhea-like state.

Jackson immediately stood alert, raising the fine iron sword.

The deer must be somewhere around here.

As he moved carefully while staying alert and looking for any sign of danger, suddenly the sound of something crashing against the earth came from the distance.

It’s somewhere close...

Jackson immediately tried to close the distance, moving toward the source of the sound.

Under the shade of a large grapevine stood a Blue-Horned Deer, a large monster built like a tank, rubbing its hind legs fiercely against the ground and sending stones and dirt flying in every direction. After moving in circles, it stopped only when it spotted a fresh vitality-leeching vine.

Bracing its horn forward, the deer charged, gaining enough momentum to pierce the vine all the way through — not even sparing the tree in the process.

Jackson waited patiently. It was only when he confirmed that the deer was really stuck that he acted. Maybe the monster had gotten excited or something else, but now its horn was deeply buried into the tree trunk like a nail. The monster struggled to break free, but it could not do so in a short time.

This is the perfect opportunity...!

With his eyes lighting up like stars, Jackson ran straight toward the monster, raising the sword high in the air with the clear intention of beheading the monster in one swift move.

The sword drew a clear arc through the air, striking decisively at the monster’s neck.

Then nothing happened.

For a moment, both the struggling deer and Jackson looked as if they had frozen in place.

Seeing the sudden ambush, the deer thought it had finally kicked the bucket and regretted its decisions, but when the sword made contact, it barely felt anything.

The hand holding the sword was still shaking. Jackson felt as if he had not attacked a creature made of flesh and blood, but a monster made from pure iron. The sword, powered by most of his strength, had not even brushed past the monster’s natural protection, yet he had wanted to kill such a creature to farm monster cores.

Suddenly, his earlier plan flashed through his mind.

Maximizing earning potential from each prey, my foot... more like maximizing my death potential.

By this time, the monster had finally caught up and understood what was going on.

A puny human had dared to harm its noble self. Its two eyes turned red in anger, the blood flowing through its veins seemed to boil, and steam started to come out of the monster’s nostrils as it used all of its strength to free itself.

Jackson witnessed the change with an expression as dark as chocolate.

This was bad.

Just then, maybe he was looking at the monster too intently or something else had triggered it, but a floating window suddenly appeared before his vision.

[Name - Blue-Horned Deer]

[Age - 23 Years]

[Talent - Blood Boiling]

[Realm - Mortal]

[Spiritual Force - 4.3]

[Mana - 5.9]

For the first time ever, instead of feeling happy, Jackson had the urge to curse out loud.

Out of all the moments...

The Blue-Horned Deer let out a furious roar and managed to break free from the tree’s grasp, its two raging eyes staring at Jackson with pure killing intent.
