“Li Hao, I would actually like to go along with your wishes.” The look in Long Zhan’s eyes turned meaningful. “I don’t wish to be enemies with you right now, either. But if the three you mentioned wish to control Skyward’s dao universe... That might be an issue.
“If they are of a mind to fight me and stop my plans, that will also mean trouble. If that comes up, then I’ll have to set everything out of mind!
“Also, don’t go around thinking that you and Skyward are working together.” The dragon narrowed his eyes. “You’d be dead wrong if you think that!”
“I never have!” Li Hao laughed. “It’s not just Skyward, but also New Martial and Silver Moon. Despite how close we work, I’ve never thought that New Martial is Silver Moon’s, or that Silver Moon is New Martial’s!
“Everyone lives for themselves, there aren’t any strictly good or bad people! You are no one good in my eyes, but you are a saint and a holy emperor to the chaos beasts!
“Therefore, it’s just each to their own in the pursuit of personal benefit. But I do owe Skyward some favors, that is undeniable.”
“On the day Skyward returns, I will let those three go if they do not give me too much trouble,” Long Zhan nodded. “I will trade them in return for you turning a blind eye. And if they insist on becoming involved, I will show you face if you appear in person to take them away. If that still doesn’t do the trick... then we fight!”
“My thanks to the senior for your grace,” Li Hao laughed. “Can the senior... stand against a ninth rank as of present?”
“There are no real ninth ranks in the modern chaos!” Long Zhan sneered. “What ninth ranks can there be without nine thousand dao rules? Is Chaos Sky a real ninth rank? Even if the Skyward master returns, he will not possess the true strength of a ninth rank!”
Li Hao mulled over his words thoughtfully. No wonder the dragon dared set his eyes on Skyward. He’d already determined that the day Skyward revitalized was most likely when its world master would return. Granted, the world master might return in projection form. Regardless, he would rival Chaos Sky.
Long Zhan should be well aware of everything, but had schemed after Skyward all this time. He really did have strong ambitions.
“Sever your connection with Feng Yan,” Long Zhan changed the topic. “I’ll let your supernatural character go in return. It’d be a waste to shatter it.”
“The senior... is very interesting!” Li Hao grinned. “The connection between me and Feng Yan will naturally break too if the supernatural character is destroyed...”
“And can you not just create another?” scoffed Long Zhan. “Why get up to these tricks with me? Sever your connection with Feng Yan and I’ll release your character of calamity. That will save you some trouble. Why do you have to choose the hard way?”
Fair enough!
Li Hao nodded and said with some pity, “Then... let us proceed this way! I actually rather like Princess Feng Yan and have no desire to hurt her...”
No one believed that!
In Long Zhan’s eyes, the genteel-seeming Li Hao was much more vicious than the Human King. He’d threatened a singular chaos beast with the lives of countless humans and chaos beasts in the four regions. How could anyone do that??
No one would believe him if he spoke of it!
It was only ever chaos beasts that used swallowing a world as a threat against humans. But this time, the tables were turned and he was ludicrously threatened by Li Hao!
It was a joke that’d truly happened!
The young man waved a hand without a word and summoned a thunderbolt. Feng Yan grunted in the distance as a treaty seemed to break within the depths of her soul. She’d already suffered a great deal in the earlier battle, so a mixture of fury and self-censure rose when she felt the demise of the dao treaty.
The battle might not have gone this way this time if it hadn’t been for her... All of the four regions had been dragged into it!
“You petty little thief, Li Hao!” she raged.
Indeed, Li Hao was a petty little thief. The human was the height of shamelessness to the phoenix. He’d threatened her father with the lives of countless humans. How despicable, damnable, and evil!
“You say that you kill the chaos race because we devour humans. That was why you killed my mother and others of our race. But what you’ve done today is one hundred times worse than what the chaos race has done!”
“That’s right, so even I hate myself,” Li Hao nodded. “I’m so shameless. But when we of the martial world are down on our luck, being shameless ensures our survival!
“My father told me once to not lose my life for the sake of so-called face,” chuckled the young man. “That I should bide my time when I should and give way when I should. I should also beg for mercy if the occasion is right. I’m afraid of Senior Long Zhan, so I had no choice but to utilize such tactics.
“They might still be useful again next time, but if there is a next time, I’ll have the strength to fight face-to-face with the senior. I naturally won’t have to employ such underhanded methods.” The young man grinned. “There is no need to be angry, Princess Feng Yan. History is written by the victors. If I die, you guys can trash my name however you’d like. If I win, then I did this for humanity and to safeguard justice. I didn’t actually kill hundreds of billions of humans...”
So shameless!
Feng Yan shook with rage.
“That’s right, History is written by the victors!” laughed Long Zhan. “I’ve underestimated you. When you went on a massacre in Dragon Region, I thought you were just a hypocrite. Today, I realize that I was mistaken. You really are a villain, through and through!”
“Whether it is a hypocrite or villain... that will be judgments reserved for those yet to come,” Li Hao laughed softly again. “We are all hot in the thick of things today. Who has the right to judge another?
“That’ll be all for now. I need to be off because I have other business at hand. I thank the senior for safeguarding my supernatural character!”
“Father!” Feng Yan shouted. They could not let the supernatural character leave like this!
It’d be one thing if it was a regular character, but this was one of calamity—it was very strong! It could even trigger Thunder Region. As dangerous as it was, it needed to be destroyed!
And yet, Long Zhan raised a hand to stop his people.
“My thanks to the senior!” Li Hao smiled. The supernatural character drifted away, leaving his voice. “Princess Feng Yan, you’re too young. It would do you good to get a few more years under your belt!”
“You...” Feng Yan bellowed.
Long Zhan, however, didn’t make a sound until Li Hao left.
“Don’t lose your temper at the drop of a hat,” he said slowly. “There is no meaning in that. You will just waste your energy with impotent rage.”
“But...” Feng Yan was unwilling to accept the situation. They should’ve detained Li Hao’s supernatural character, no matter what. How could they let it go?
“There’s not much of a point in shattering his supernatural character,” the dragon said softly as he looked into the distance. “It will just cement his enmity. That’s one point, the other is that...” He looked around them. “It might elicit a second uprising in Thunder Region. That would just be more trouble for us!”
Feng Yan settled down with grumbling reluctance. Black Tiger and the rest were the same way. Meanwhile, Red Moon had been immersed in the scene from earlier. He came back to his senses only now and said dumbly, “Li Hao killed Reincarnation with the dao of desire!”
How is that possible?? I am the master of desire!
“So now you know that desire isn’t weak, hmm?” Long Zhan nodded. “It is humans that are weak, not the great dao!”
Red Moon had nothing he could say in return. Reincarnation! That was a cultivator of nearly six thousand daos, a true premier powerhouse. But he’d been killed by the dao of desire. His own dao was shattered and cycle of reincarnation smashed.
It was something that’d never crossed Red Moon’s mind. He was momentarily beside himself with dejection.
I... seem to have a weaker grasp of desire than Li Hao.
What a joke.
......
Battle began to stop throughout the eastern region. Li Hao’s side had killed five eighth ranks and the Human King four eighth ranks. That made for a total of nine eighth ranks.
All of them were powerhouses. Some of them had been extremely mighty, and all of the eighth ranks from the two biggest worlds in the east—Reincarnation and Arctic Frost—had all perished.
The results of this battle surprised everyone.
Li Hao’s character of calamity swiftly flew back and settled back in the young man’s body to meld with the river. He quickly recovered a little, which surprised the Thunder Emperor. They hadn’t thought that the character could come back in one piece!
“The Dragon master didn’t break it?” Even the dao chess couldn’t help but ask.
Li Hao looked behind them, then at the four regions.
“This is why he’s a premier powerhouse,” he sighed with appreciation. “It’s not like this guy let my character off the hook out of the goodness of his heart. Thunder Region is the property of a ninth rank. Whatever it is, the situation is a bit complicated!”
He looked at the mental spirits floating out of the river. All of them had their heads lowered in respect and didn’t dare say anything.
They might have dared say a thing or two before, but after Li Hao killed Reincarnation... And though they knew that they’d contributed to the battle as well, that the young man might not have been so strong without them... They felt nothing but awe and respect.
Li Hao was incredibly frightening!
The battle had been very beneficial for the exalted emperors as they’d personally participated in a battle between daos, comprehended a myriad of daos, studied reincarnation, and even studied dao rules...
If they were able to successfully return with their new knowledge, their cultivation would surely take a step forward.
But... could they return?
Li Hao looked at the tattered daos in the river without further ado and sighed. “Thank goodness that only some of them broke, not all of them...” he smiled. “Number Two!”
The cat materialized in a very feeble condition. What now! Did it have to go to work again?
“I’m going to attempt to recover time...” said Li Hao. “Take a look at what daos have broken from the ones you copied before. Bring them to me!
“The rest should collect the energy drifting in the surroundings. I will repair time first!”
Everything could wait until that task was accomplished. It wasn’t that he was in a hurry to use time again, but that he needed to continue his efforts with Allheaven Hall and send these exalted emperors back.
“Please be patient a while longer, everyone!” Li Hao’s voice boomed through the vicinity. “I will send you back very shortly. Allheaven Hall will officially open for business after today and all shall be as we previously introduced it. If anyone makes some gains, then please advertise for us...”
“You won’t need us to,” an exalted emperor quickly said. “The venerated one swept through countless enemies in this battle and have made your name known throughout the chaos after killing Reincarnation. Allheaven Hall will be known throughout the chaos!”
Li Hao was indeed famous throughout the chaos after today. Killing Reincarnation had firmly set him on the path of being known for himself and disengaging from New Martial’s influence. His efforts were separate from the Human King’s.
No one would ever say that Silver Moon was a New Martial vassal anymore. And no one would ever think that only the Human King was cause for concern among them, that the Silver Moon king was someone who could be safely ignored.
