Chapter 1988: Allocation, Loneliness (IV)

Logically speaking, it was almost impossible for outsiders to wield time. Silver Moon cultivators were born within time, but only those born in this era would have the qualifications to master time. That was because Li Hao had claimed it, so those born after him could not possess that ability.

Was there someone more suited than Li Hao to be the master of time?

The Skyward master didn’t know much about Silver Moon. Hence, he said, “We can... investigate after my people return. If there is another cultivator of time... Well, then we’ll see! I don’t know much about Li Hao. My knowledge is the same as everyone else’s. His previous actions might not have meant...”

The Skyward master didn’t know what to say. Someone who dared ignite the strength of Thunder Region to destroy countless worlds in the four regions, and even his own home world, was incredibly ruthless. It was normal for everyone to suddenly be wary.

If you’re this way now, what about when you reach ninth rank?

Time was a domineering dao. Once its wielder reached ninth rank... would Li Hao really get along with everyone, given his personality? And regardless, he would be hard to control!

Although the group was aware that the master of time was sure to be formidable, given the strength of that dao, the ninth ranks had sat at their level for many years. No one was willing to be manipulated by time. They much preferred to be manipulators of time.

“We should swap him out as early as possible if we can!” someone said meaningfully. “Nothing good comes from dragging out this matter. My conclusion about this fellow is that I’m not too satisfied with him! I think... there will be others with similar sentiments as well!”

Skyward didn’t say anything as he looked at the speaker. It was the dao master of life and death!

Life and death had lost in a recent battle against time, resulting in some damage to the dao. It was normal that its dao master was put out with Li Hao. Although Reincarnation was unaware of it, he’d been secretly raised as a spokesperson for that dao.

It was a pity that the dao master of life and death had lost a representative before having a chance to explain the situation!

“We’ll keep an eye on things.” The Skyward master decided that everything could wait until after their return.

Li Hao... time... and the third generation master of time?

What did all of this hint at?

It was giving him, a premier powerhouse, reason for pause. Where had the third generation popped up from? Why hadn’t there been any signs of them before?

......

At the same time, upriver somewhere.

A recently awakened youngster forged against the current with a group of people behind him.

“Can we make it out?” he asked with puzzlement. “Is the exit from this chaos at the end of the river, or is there no path ahead for us to follow? Are we walking toward the past or out of the chaos?”

Everyone shook their heads blankly. How would we know? We’ve never tried this before. You spent such a long time asleep and want to exit our universe as soon as you wake up. Are you suffering some kind of shock?

“Emperor Su... we can just live our own lives. It’s one thing if we can make it out, but even if we do, can we really make our way to the past?”

The young man stroked his chin and smiled in an odd manner. “I don’t actually want to get involved, but I might’ve already seen the master of time twice now. Three times is not the charm here! He seemed to be in trouble both times, so I’m concerned that he won’t be able to create the river of time if he dies.

“Yeah, it’s contradictory, but if we exist in the future and within the river of time... inside a false chaos... then I’m worried that altering the past will change the future! That will be a lot of trouble then. I just want to sleep my fill. I’m so tired. But the key is, I’m afraid of someone killing the master of time...

“This is so bothersome!” he sighed. “Human Emperor, you’ve traveled the river of time before. I’m also going against the current and even reaching its end. Why... aren’t we out of this yet?”

“It might be very hard to exit the river,” said a stern middle-aged man. “Unless... the past and future are in agreement with each other in the river of time that he’s created! We might have a chance in that kind of situation, with the disconnect between two flows of time.

“We count as being in an internal world, so the flow of time for us is slightly faster. Perhaps we can walk out the second he creates the river of time. But if he hasn’t done so yet, then we’re just one possible world out of millions of future possibilities. We won’t be able to do that!”

The young man inclined his head. This made sense. He quickly speculated and theorized his way through the Human Emperor’s words.

“I wonder when this guy’s gonna create the river, he doesn’t seem that strong!” sighed the youngster. “I don’t like being so passive, I like being proactive more. Just like you say, if we’re one of millions of possibilities... then we need to make certain preparations.

“We can’t sit around waiting, we need to take initiative! The second he creates the river of time is the second we get outta here to turn our future into reality! With the internal and external in agreement, there won’t be a chance of us disappearing after he’s taken out. We’ll still exist even if he dies...”

The group was rendered speechless. Would he? Could the master of time die? Who would believe that? Had the emperor gotten silly in his long nap?

“Don’t make fun of me, I know everything you're thinking!” laughed the youngster. He stroked his chin again as he looked at the end of the river. “We may not be able to do anything once we get out. Those on the outside all seem to be very strong. We’ll cultivate as we go!

“And another thing, will me from the future have to do anything when I visit him of the past? I got a lot from him, after all.”

“......” Everyone shook their heads since they had no idea. Who knows who you are? Are you going to do anyone any favors just because they ask?

“Is there anyone who wields more than fifty great daos on the outside?” someone asked.

“I don’t know, there’s differences in our cultivation systems!” The youngster shook his head. “I tried exchanging a blow with him last time, but their dao is slightly disordered! What do you say, Firmament?”

“I have very few memories left from that time...” Someone shook their head, yet was both excited and agitated. “But I know that... he must be very strong!”

“......” No shit! What a waste of time asking you. You’re so silly for being an evolution of the Firmament Sword character. You don’t have any information to offer!

“But I seem... to have some vague impressions...” The one they called Firmament mused. “Dao in that era... was split into nine ranks!”

Nine ranks?

That was so generic!

The youngster set it out of mind. Who cared? It was best if they could emerge in the outside world for a look first. It’s best if I don’t run into that guy, actually. What if he demands payment from me?

And actually... will that guy try to seize me to be a weapon spirit?

The river of time was where he’d tempered his sword. Am I going to turn into his sword if I devour other people?

Bah!

I’ll rain hell down on him if he dares!

If he dares treat me as a weapon spirit, I’ll have a go at him from day to night! It’s not like he’ll be that strong right after creating the river of time.

......

The past and future of various spots in the chaos showed differing movements on this day. Meanwhile, Li Hao had long vanished to attend to his closed door cultivation.

Not far from his area of seclusion, the Human King staggered around with a charred body. He’d finally survived the thunder tribulations and cursed madly in Li Hao’s general direction. That kid had no respect for his elders!

You watched me get fried for three days straight and didn’t even ask how I was! You should’ve done at least that to be polite! The great dao is just as heartless as you are! I’m the only one with any fire and passion!

“Welcome back, everyone!” He beamed broadly at those who’d just been resurrected.

A litany of insults fired back at him!

“We’ll blow you up first next time!”

The Human King shrugged. It was just self-detonation. They’d get used to it.

“We’ll feast for three days to celebrate our communion over the eastern region!” He grinned radiantly. “Let’s piss that little guy off. He can have fun in closed door cultivation all by his lonesome!”

Collective eye rolls greeted his announcement. You’ve seriously... got too much time on your hands!

The smiling crowd couldn’t help but look into the distance, where an illusory world hovered in the void. It was all alone and somehow invited pity.

His side seems much less lively than ours. Perhaps this is just how lonely the path of seeking dao is.

......

The path of attaining dao was always a lonely one. At least, it was so in Li Hao’s eyes. Whoever took the lead was a genius. To be out ahead of the pack was to be lonely.

He seemed to understand the War Sovereign more these days. The man... must have felt very alone. Isolated.

War was more of a genius than the young man and someone who truly sought the great dao. How solitary must he have been once he coalesced time?

The road ahead was known to him. He would have been a ninth rank as soon as he set foot outside New Martial!

Should he have done so?

But what was the point in that?

Time seemed to be the limit of dao. The convergence of a myriad daos was the ultimate peak of great dao. What further meaning in life was there when dao seekers reached the end?

Li Hao hadn’t understood it before and felt that War was an ole stick-in-the-mud. But now that he was expanding his dao world, the young man began to understand. He’d grasped a lot of great daos in this moment and even reconstructed time.

While he wasn’t as stunning as War to have taken the entire chaos universe by storm, Li Hao was already feeling a bit isolated in the path to come.

Loneliness was invincible!

War might not have been invincible in terms of battle strength, but he might have reached that height in this age when it came to dao comprehension.

Those around him were obsessed with fighting for profit and short-sighted with personal benefit. How dull!

It was better to leave!

But leave where?

War hadn’t known. Where was the end of dao?

And so, War left.

Perhaps he’d done so with some reluctance, but just a little. As opposed to fretting over the matter, it was better to just leave.

Such was to be War, wasn’t it?

Li Hao saturated his worlds and thought of these issues, sending his thoughts wandering.

Of course, he’d yet to reach War’s level. He wasn’t invincible in either dao or battle strength. He also had some desires, which was what War lacked.

War hadn’t been motivated by anything!
