Star Gate

Chapter 1998: Spirit (III)

A small world appeared in Li Hao’s hand—the world of fury that’d recently taken shape.

“Come on in!” The young man smiled radiantly. “This great dao is a really angry one. It’s violent and explosive... Come hold down the fort here. If you can fully integrate with it, you’ll be able to leave the cage anytime...”

The tiger snarled with irritation.

Li Hao tempted it for a while, angering the tiger further until it suddenly bounded out of the world of fire. It howled and swallowed the dao of fury. Hold down what fort?! I’ll eat the thing!

Li Hao’s eyes lit up!

He looked at the ferocious tiger, then at the world of fire that’d forcefully swallowed the world of fury... The look in his eyes changed!

“Dao... fusion!”

The daos had fused together!

This was a proactive integration of dao! The dao was changing through a unique method of combination!

Li Hao suddenly recalled the combination of time and how it changed endlessly. Why was it assembled in such a special way and constantly shifted?

It was because it possessed spirit.

That was why these daos could devour each other if they encountered similar ones or ones with commonalities. It was what people saw as combination and integration.

“This isn’t a mechanical integration, but... a fusion from the same source. The ferocious tiger represents fury and anger, which can also be fire!”

So the great dao can act like this?

“So this means that fury can meld with fire and fire can integrate with a lot of things. If the ferocious tiger can devour targets, can it devour other daos?

“It must be able to. Natural devouring is not the same as forceful integration. Therefore... the myriad of daos... must ultimately streamline to a much more simplistic whole. Similar daos of the same origin will fully consolidate together! That will produce more order...”

Li Hao was suddenly thinking out of the box and wanted to swap the tiger into the world of fury. But the tiger had outright swallowed the world!

And the key was, the young man found that his strength didn’t decline at all for it.

“Therefore, the great dao can be continuously organized until it ultimately forms a list of daos that cannot be fully integrated with each other. This is the concept of all daos becoming one that we pursue. But it’s also a bit more complicated than that!”

Did the War Sovereign understand that theory?

He might have, but any daos with spirit might demonstrate the same characteristics. However, War hadn’t left any clues behind. It was only by happenstance that Li Hao realized something was special during a random session of exploring today.

“So it turns out we can use the great dao in this way?” The young man grinned widely. He’d just been messing around!

The tiger in front of him paced with irritation, but Li Hao looked at it with a lot of excitement.

“What else can you devour, aside from fury? Can you spit it out anytime?”

This tiger was just a tangible form of his emotions, but here he was, striking up a conversation with it.

The tiger snarled and spat out the minor world with some distaste. It didn’t seem to think much of how it tasted!

Meanwhile, it gave Li Hao the same sense of... spirit and life that he’d sensed when he first saw the star of time.

That’s right!

He’d only thought that that was a natural effect from the combination of great dao. But now that he thought more about it, that wasn’t right. That must be spirit within the dao. One of the daos within the star of time must possess spirit, which made the star act that way.

......

Li Hao was extremely excited, but those on the outside frowned deeply.

The other four had already made it to the four or five thousand squares range. Those who were faster were almost at five thousand. But Li Hao continued to linger at three thousand. Although they’d felt that there was a gap between the Silver Moon king and the rest, they hadn’t thought that Li Hao wouldn’t measure up to even the brutish Human King!

And now?

The Human King was almost at five thousand, whereas the Silver Moon king was still at three thousand.

What was going on here?

......

Li Hao didn’t care about the competition. He walked the dao chess to understand more of the great dao. He was naturally overjoyed at the unexpected gains. What did he care about anything else?

Perfecting his dao took top priority!

He beamed at the tiger in front of him and summoned a flood of minor worlds. He held up various ones like he was teasing a dog. “Do you want to eat this?”

“Arf!”

“How about this one?”

“Grrr!” The tiger tossed its head with immense annoyance. Do I look like I eat everything? I would be a spirit of a myriad daos then!

The tiger seemed to be rather picky. But when Li Hao next brought out a world, the tetchy tiger swallowed it all the same.

The young man’s eyes lit up. Was this the dao of... immolation?

It was a dao similar to fire, but not quite. The tiger, however, seemed perfectly willing to eat it.

In Li Hao’s eyes, his world of fire was stronger than before. And yet, it only appeared to be a world of one dao and a tiger!

“Um...” He quickly ran through calculations. I don’t know how many daos the tiger can swallow, but it’s got to be a lot. Any daos somewhat related to it can become fodder.

That means while there are many daos in the chaos, all of them can ultimately become part of each other in the end. They can all be integrated and split out.

But we should still try to streamline the great dao. The more minimalistic, the better.

“Supernatural characters... different supernatural characters... their integration... One character for one dao... but altogether, they can become a complete and incredibly strong dao!”

Li Hao grasped a lot of key points when he thought of the future to come.

“There shouldn’t be that many daos in the future as they’ve been streamlined and refined! Many similar daos have been fully incorporated into one major dao. They can cultivate supernatural characters in normal days, then combine the daos through the characters...

“Can one hundred daos come together as one super strong dao of order?”

Li Hao wasn’t sure about that. He’d just discovered this unique attribute. He didn’t know how many the tiger could devour, nor did he know the exact details of the process. If he wished to know, he’d need to complete his collection of daos.

He did not possess sufficient daos as of yet.

“That’s not right... even if it can’t devour some of the daos now, the tiger should be able to sense a thing or two about the paths that we’ve been on. That gives me some mental preparation!”

Li Hao’s excitement boiled over again.

That was right!

All daos were present within the dao chess.

I’m still in a competition, I almost forgot that I can walk the tiger and have it sense a variety of different daos. It should be interested in ones that are similar to it.

Li Hao quickly stood up and summoned the illusory tiger to it. It still bristled with annoyance, but charged ahead and rammed through squares. Sometimes it paused in one, perhaps wanting to eat it, but also despising the dao strength for being from a dead entity!

Li Hao made notes of whatever it showed interest in. The tiger was his own dao and spirit, so he was seeking dao himself. However, the spirit was often stronger in perception than the cultivator.

The young man followed the rushing tiger with immense delight. Four thousand daos, five thousand daos...

He’d dallied at three thousand daos for a very long period of time, but now stirred back to motion.

......

The exalted emperors watching outside the chessboards didn’t know what to make of what they saw. This august personage had halted at three thousand daos for the longest of times. Why was he suddenly going crazy now?

He was at five thousand in the blink of an eye!

......

Having just left seclusion, Void was watching from the crowd. He was reminded of when he and Li Hao once walked the dao chess. The guy never cared about how many squares he reached. He just wanted to comprehend dao.

Had he come to some new reflections in that period of time he spent in one place?

Void grew envious when the thought occurred to him. This guy was a true genius, a perverse genius!

He must have attained new enlightenment.

And the key was, Li Hao always seemed to walk away with something from the dao chess. Void really did admire his friend for that. Many wouldn’t gain anything new from squares they’d already passed through. Li Hao seemed completely different from that and the key was, he wasn’t afraid of overthrowing previous conclusions.

Even when it was his own dao, he would turn over a new page after a period of time if he felt it wasn’t right or rewrite it entirely!

“Fellow daoist, do you... know me?” A familiar voice rang in his ears.

Void blinked, then realized it was... his father!

The Light master didn’t dare be that bold because he wasn’t certain who he was speaking to. Everyone was present in illusory form and concealing their presences. But it was different when there was a bloodline tie present. He somehow found this particular ball of light more intimate.

However, he didn’t dare outright call someone his son as that might start a feud if he had the wrong person. It was a very inappropriate opener!

That was why he used fellow daoist and his own voice. If this ball of light really was his son, Ming Tang would recognize him.

Void almost burst out laughing. His father was here?

Man...

“I do not know you...” He purposefully changed his voice.

Bam!

The Light master punched the ball of light, leaving Void a bit woozy.

“I used the language of Light major world! How do you not know your old man??”

I knew there was something familiar about this ball of light, so I used our language, but the brat says that he doesn’t know me! Get in here for a beating!

The shadows around them drew back with surprise. Are you two crazy? The five overlords are competing with each other and you guys are starting a brawl here?

A resigned Void quickly grabbed his father and restrained the man. “Stop it, father,” he transmitted. “Now is not the time or place...”

“Are you an eighth rank now?” Light transmitted with surprised joy. He was here in the form of an eighth rank’s mental strength, after all. His son had been able to overcome him in a second. Had the guy reached eighth rank?

“Pretty much...”

“What do you mean, pretty much?”

“I mean I am, but very weak, so I don’t want to say that I’m an eighth rank.”

“......” Light didn’t know what to say.

“Let’s not talk about this right now, father,” Void quickly said. “Hao Moon’s probably made new gains again. I think he’s going to win!”

Light blinked. Are you sure?

Void didn’t have the presence of mind to spare for his father. He looked at his friend with glee. Li Hao must have learned something new. This was how he always was. He took his time, but when he moved, he shocked everyone.

Although he’d fallen behind everyone else for the moment, he would surpass them soon!
