Survival of the fittest!
In Skyward’s view, this law hadn’t been decided by a singular person. The entire system had deemed that chaos beasts were to be eliminated. Long Zhan’s resistance was just the struggle of a dying race.
Even without the current crop of ninth ranks, there would be a next generation and another after that of those who sought ninth rank. All of them would integrate their dao with the chaos and absorb its spirit.
That would ensure ever fewer numbers of chaos beasts being born. Such was the trend of the entire chaos!
Long Zhan’s defiance was completely meaningless.
Chaos Sky set foot through the air and crossed the void, attempting to approach Skyward. However, even he was moved away the next second.
Chaos Sky looked on sternly!
He was unquestionably formidable. As strong as these replicas were, none of them should be able to just run him over. And yet, Skyward’s spatial dao seemed to be untraceable and impossible to get a fix on. He’d been shifted out of the way before he had a chance to draw near.
That would make it almost impossible to deal fatal damage to Skyward.
Chaos Sky frowned. He’d known that Skyward would be a difficult opponent to handle, but the replica... might truly be on par with a real ninth rank. It would seem that his reputation of being the greatest in the chaos was well deserved!
Skyward didn’t seem inclined to chase his opponents to the death. Of course, it might be that his replica was more adept at defense and not offense. As impressive as spatial dao was, it was still a tall order for it to outright slice premier overlords to death.
“Senior Skyward... what have you returned for?” Chaos Sky asked with a frown. “We can accomplish your tasks for you, if possible. There is no need for the senior to descend in person! Although the senior’s replica is redoubtable, it is still a replica at the end of the day...”
“Skyward major world is our home,” the Skyward master burst out laughing. “We are simply returning home, not invading! Little friend Chaos Sky and the other little friends, is making a trip home still this hard at our level of cultivation?
“How would you feel if someone tried to stop you from returning home at the end of a long journey after eons past?”
No one said a word.
“I would kill whoever stops me!” the Human King grinned. That was the logic, there was nothing wrong with what Skyward was saying.
He was just coming back to his own territory and homeland. The man was yet to do anything, but suddenly surrounded by people all the same. It was the invaders who were out of line.
“So there we have it,” Skyward smiled. “Therefore, aren’t the little friends being unreasonable? Of course, the chaos isn’t a place where reason prevails. Here, might makes right. However, the little friends might not be able to overcome me, even though it’s only my replica here.
“I have no desire to wage war with you either. We have different goals in mind. What you wish is to achieve dominance and attain ninth rank dao, whereas I am long past that period.”
We want different things, so why stop me?
“Then what does the senior seek?” asked Chaos Sky.
“I wish for the stability of the chaos and great dao... the order of the chaos universe and the prosperity of the worlds. Would you believe me if that is my response?” Skyward sighed softly. “Perfecting chaos dao, its rules, and system... Let the ninth ranks return, there is no need to view them as your enemy.
“There will come such a day for all of you. You will pursue such an opportunity as well. Or is everyone supposed to seal themselves away until they die when that day arrives?
“Then what do we cultivate for?” Skyward asked sincerely. “You are not my enemy and no one is an enemy! There might be one master of the chaos one day, but not now and not today. All of you might set foot on the path of ninth rank one day. When that happens, are we all to leave for foreign lands due to a depletion of spirit?
“No, not leave for foreign lands, but be forced into sealing away your primary bodies and hiding within the cracks of the universe. Is this what you want?
“What grudges can there be between us, unless you think that you cannot enter ninth rank? I have no ability to speak more with mediocre people, but to this crowd... I can say a few words, particularly with little friend Li Hao.”
He turned to address Li Hao. The young man happened to be setting foot through the air.
“We have been waiting for the dao of time all along,” Skyward said softly. “The little friend might be worried about something or another, or you might be apprehensive. There is no need to be thus.
“We waited for time simply because we hoped that the convergence of a myriad daos would result in enough spirit to remake the chaos. We actually support you entering ninth rank.
“Perhaps some of us are unwilling, but that’s only because they have other thoughts in mind or are looking to the future. None of that applies to the present. We bear you no enmity for the moment!”
This defining heavyweight of an era spoke quite sincerely. None of them had conflicting interests at the moment. However, Long Zhan interrupted with a cold snort.
“If it’s just for this, then why does the senior’s replica need to descend upon us? Why not continue to dwell in silence and wait for us to enter ninth rank first? It won’t be too late to discuss that then!”
The dragon was normally a taciturn figure, but today, he would refute every single word he heard. He didn’t believe anything that Skyward said!
His confidence had grown after Chaos Sky and Li Hao arrived. And so, his tone hardened. “I request the senior’s replica to return to your primary body and dismiss your dao spirit!”
“Ai!” Skyward heaved a sigh and began growing indistinct. “You don’t listen to what I say, refuse to trust what you hear, and are unwilling to act when you do believe me. It is so unfortunate that the little friends are so overbearing!”
He had almost fully faded away by this point.
Boom!
The void crumbled away. Long Zhan’s eyes widened and whipped his dragon tail through the void, but landed on empty space. The Skyward reappeared in the blink of an eye and blotted out the sky with his hand. Rumbles split the air, like the world was compressing!
Long Zhan’s tail broke!
The dragon grunted and the Human King sent his blade flying toward the Skyward master. Chaos Sky swiftly materialized, yet Skyward disappeared just as promptly. He seemed to be able to disappear and reappear at will on his world.
Having just rushed to the battlefield, Li Hao’s face twitched and he lifted his hand to slash with his sword. He, too, connected with nothing but air. Explosions continued to ring in his ear.
The young man growled and sped through time, disappearing in a heartbeat!
Where he’d stood was a hole in space, having exploded. The Skyward master could be seen there.
“Not bad, this method of traveling through time is not bad indeed,” smiled the man. “I met a cultivator of time back in the day. We had a good conversation then, more’s the pity...”
Skyward shook his head slightly. “He had great potential and, no offense, he might have had more potential than the little friend. What a shame... Otherwise, he might not stop me like the little friend is doing if he’d lived to present day.
“New Martial... Silver Moon... are of the same bloodline.” He turned to the Human King. “Your heritage is very strong and possesses great potential with a bright future. I can understand Long Zhan obstructing me, but why do the two of you insist on being involved with this mess?
“Chaos Sky is doing this to build order, whereas your faction seeks freedom. No one will prevent you from achieving that.”
No one responded, not even Li Hao. Killing Calamity’s replica had been easy enough. Only when he faced Skyward’s replica did he really understand just how strong a ninth rank was.
Everyone present was a premier existence, yet it took only one replica to toy with them all. They didn’t even have a way to approach him yet. If only one person was able to do so, that would spell their own doom.
It was too hard for all of them to mob him. Their target could vanish into the void at any time.
Li Hao brought down the domain of a myriad worlds in lieu of saying anything. He wanted to seal off the premises, but it took only a heartbeat before one of the worlds imploded and the immaterial world disappeared. The mental entity within it promptly shattered.
Skyward appeared outside the worlds with a smile. “This is a very nice dao and a very good idea, but the worlds are too scattered. Can such a domain seal me away?”
The Human King suddenly rushed out from the rear and brought his blade down, but Skyward was already gone.
Fang Ping cursed to himself and shoved his blade back, nearly disemboweling the newly arrived Chaos Sky.
“People like you are the worst!” spat the Human King. “Do you have the balls to stand your ground and not move?! Let’s fight, man to man!”
He wouldn’t be a match for Skyward even if the man took him up on the challenge. But perhaps Skyward really would stop bouncing around after a few insults!
They couldn’t beat Skyward in single combat, not to mention the man could disappear and reappear at will. That rendered all containment techniques ineffective since they couldn’t lock away such a premier existence. A fellow who could fight and run and hide was the most troublesome of all.
Spatial dao!
It was present anywhere and everywhere. Skyward could pass through any place with spatial dao. It was clear to see why he’d been lauded as the greatest among the chaos in his age.
Chaos Sky growled, summoning a few worlds into existence. They formed a barrier that sought to seal off the four cardinal directions. Space froze, but only for a split second.
One of the worlds disintegrated!
“There’s no point in doing that!” Skyward appeared once more.
Eighth ranks manifested in the premises, a great deal of them. However, there was no strength in numbers at the moment. It made no difference that a large crowd of eighth ranks were surrounding one target.
Chaos Sky could see that as well, so he frowned. “It looks like it’ll be hard for us to kill you, but your offense isn’t strong enough to take us out either. You would’ve long dispatched us if that was possible. It looks like you’ve coalesced a dao spirit of traveling through space for this excursion, and not one for slaughter.”
Skyward didn’t deny the identification.
“It’s just a spirit gathered from a few eighth ranks, it can’t be that complete.” The man nodded with a smile. “The chaos as a whole is unable to support ninth ranks at present. That is why I am just a replica and not the primary body. I would not be so polite if I were here with my primary body.”
He was on par with Chaos Sky when it came to offense, but also had all the agility and speed that he wanted. There was nothing that this group of people could do to him.
It was them who should be concerned instead. They were safe when gathered as a group, but once they split up...
Skyward was a powerhouse that instilled extreme wariness in all.
