Chapter 2044: Harvest (I)

“They won’t dare kill you!” Long Zhan roared at the Skyward powerhouses. “If they kill more of you, that will provide sufficient spirit for the Skyward master to send another replica. So they won’t do it and neither will I.

“No one will kill you so long as you don’t spilt up, but once they kill me and my race’s cultivators, then you are dead without a doubt! No one cares more about the four regions than me!”

Did his words make sense?

They did!

Long Zhan didn’t wish for anything to happen to the four regions or for the Skyward master to descend again. But New Martial and Li Hao... might not share the same concerns!

They could just change to a new locale once the dust settled. This wasn’t their headquarters.

“Coiling Dragon!” Long Zhan roared again. His earlier arrangements now all depended on Coiling Dragon.

Within Skyward major world, the Exalted Coiling Dragon Emperor jerked with surprise. The five elemental envoys also looked at him with a complicated expression. What should they do? Long Zhan was their enemy. New Martial and Silver Moon were even more so!

They’d killed large numbers of Skyward cultivators. As for Long Zhan... truth be told, his people had only killed a few seventh ranks. The eighth ranks had nearly all died to New Martial and Silver Moon.

Should they make a move? Or continue to remain on defense?

Coiling Dragon wrestled with complicated emotions before suddenly saying, “The Human King probably needs to hunt us down and seize the world if he wishes to bring back his people. Even if he leaves us alone in order to avoid the dao master descending again, he will make a play for the world...”

“So you’re going to help Long Zhan?” snorted the life envoy. I knew you were nothing good! You’ll help him because you’re both dragons!

“Do we just turn a blind eye then?” rumbled the dragon. “You guys can think of ways to contact the dao master if you’re unwilling. Ask him if Long Zhan is a bigger threat, or New Martial and Silver Moon?”

He was very confident that even if they could contact the dao master, the dao master would tell them to help Long Zhan, not the other guys. The Human King and Li Hao were too big of a threat! Anyone could see that!

Long Zhan was strong and connected to chaos dao, but he’d depleted all of his resources to simply shake it. He wasn’t at the Human King’s level, able to disrupt the foundation of a ninth rank’s replica.

The dragon might not be as strong as a berserk Human King, but he might have a brighter future.

The life envoy sneered and looked at the elemental envoys. “The five of you are strongest when you work together. You decide, do we defend until the dao master descends again or what?”

The elemental envoys weren’t strong on an individual basis, but had been able to hold off Long Zhan when they fought as a team. Now that life and death had been shattered, a singular life envoy clearly wasn’t as strong as them.

Since they did not share a common consensus, the five elemental envoys had a louder voice at the table.

“We... actually have some sort of history with Li Hao...” said Flamefire.

The life envoy frowned. He disliked Li Hao more because the young man had killed the death envoy. But...

“Whether it’s Li Hao or Fang Ping, they’re both ruthless and vicious sorts,” interrupted the metal envoy. “Flamefire, the history you speak of is shit to them!”

The envoys had different opinions as well.

“At least the four regions will remain whole if you help my chaos race!” Long Zhan shouted. “Skyward will have a complete domain once he descends again. If New Martial and Silver Moon succeed, he won’t have that chance! Skyward major world will disappear...”

“Long Zhan, swear on the chaos dao that you won’t attack us...” the metal envoy suddenly said.

A light glinted in the dragon’s eyes and he was about to make that oath when the Human King threw his head back with laughter. “How about I swear that oath if you guys come help me?”

“......” No one said a word. No one believed him.

As unfamiliar as the others were with the Human King, the Human King was human and Long Zhan just a chaos beast. But for some inexplicable reason, everyone trusted Long Zhan more this moment.

Was a lunatic’s promise worth anything? He killed his own people when he put his mind to it! What would he care about a dao oath for?

Not to mention, Long Zhan was deeply tied to chaos dao. That was why they wanted the dragon to swear on it. Did the chaos dao mean anything to the Human King? Did he really care about it?

Not at all!

Therefore, who would believe him?

When their thoughts traveled here, the hesitating Skyward crowd abruptly made up their minds. They didn’t want to work with the Human King, that was too dangerous. For the moment, their priority was safeguarding the world until the dao master’s primary body came to them. Prior to that... it would be best if they could coexist peacefully with Long Zhan.

Besides, the dragon might need the peace more since he faced two ruthless enemies on his borders.

Boom!

“Who are you looking down at?!” The Human King flew into a rage upon seeing that no one was responding. “I’ll slaughter you all if you dare set a foot off your world! Long Zhan and I have come to an agreement that your lives will be traded for those of his people!”

“......”

Ah... was that... true?

Blade marks appeared on Long Zhan’s body as he backed away, coughing up blood. He shook the chaos dao without further ado, sending an equal amount of disturbance through the void.

“I, Long Zhan, leader of the chaos race, do hereby swear upon the chaos! If the heavyweights of Skyward help me repel New Martial and Silver Moon, no chaos cultivator will invade Skyward before the Skyward returns!

“May the void strike me down if I violate this oath!”

The great dao shook and the worlds resonated in response. It was like the chaos dao was alive again and ninth ranks were bearing witness to his words...

The source of the chaos seemed to be revitalizing.

Worlds shook! There was a sense of dao spirits transmitting a message. Perhaps it was the Skyward master reaching out, since the seven eighth ranks reacted like they’d been given instructions.

Coiling Dragon was the first to walk out of the world gates. He resumed dragon form to rush at Li Hao.

“The three fellow daoists helped me back in the day, so I save you today.” Li Hao smiled meaningfully. “But if you attack me, then that will be the end of our ties to one another!”

Coiling Dragon didn’t make a sound. Ties to one another? Did they exist?

Perhaps... a little.

But that was pretty much gone after Li Hao killed the death envoy and harmed them in the past. That had also led to the deaths of light, dark, yin, and yang envoys. So when the young man talked of saving them... it was a rage-inducing thought.

Not killing us in the past is saving us?

Perhaps he hadn’t killed them simply because he wished to further weaken the dao master. He didn’t want the dao master to gather more dao spirit. They hadn’t considered this possibility before, but now it was a very real motivation.

The ties that Li Hao spoke of were worth as much as the oath that the Human King spoke of.

Nothing at all! Completely worthless!

Li Hao sighed. He didn’t seem to have much of an upper hand after suppressing Red Moon. He’d only come out a little bit ahead. This was probably due to Red Moon actually being rather strong and the young man’s own injuries from the chaos disturbance being severe.

To the rest, the young man wasn’t nearly as strong as when he’d killed Calamity’s replica.

Skyward’s powerhouses appeared in the void.

“I am a loyal person who treasures my relationships,” Li Hao sighed. “Although I repaid the favor of you guys helping me in the past, I still think fondly of our ties and do not wish for open hostilities between us.

“I was going to put on a thick face and ask the Human King for mercy on your behalf. What a pity that my affection is one sided...”

“You’re the most heartless of all, little Li Hao,” sneered the Human King. “What’s with this hypocritical act? Being a genuinely petty-minded guy is better than being a hypocrite. I don’t like the direction you’re taking!”

This fellow was the most heartless of them all, but was now putting on such a fake act of pretending he had heart. The Human King would want to hack him into two if they weren’t on the same side!

“The Human King misunderstands me,” Li Hao laughed. “You don’t know my past, so I don’t blame you for not understanding. Back in the day, everyone considered me the friendly neighborhood guy who loved giving a helping hand! I enforced the law justly and was even recognized as the best inspector in town!

“Someone gave me a silk banner once, proclaiming how much I delighted in helping people and held the world in my heart...”

The Human King curved his lip and brandished his blade! Blade light filled the void.

“Is that so? Then... not bad! But you’re still a bit worse off than me. My enemies praised me day and night back in the day. I got embarrassed with how much they complimented me! They begged me to kill them so they would be free.

“I, too, love helping people. There was no helping it, so I helped a lot of people in my time. You’ve met Li Zhu, he was my greatest enemy back then, but now he’s my minion. He begged me to accept him on his knees...”

“......” Li Hao was beginning to feel that the Human King really knew how to run his mouth. Whatever.

I’m not going to argue with him about this. I mean what I say. I received a silk banner before for my efforts! Sadly, I don’t think anyone’s going to believe me.

Those of Silver Moon would know what he spoke of since that silk banner was still around.

The elemental envoys blinked at the exchange. What... was the purpose of this conversation? To toot their horns?

Their eyes widened the next second. Li Hao had disappeared!

“Wanna have some fun, Human King?” His laughter rang out.

“Let’s!” The Human King vanished as well!

Chaos Sky and Long Zhan jerked with surprise, then started with dismay. Some holes had appeared in the void!

“Damn it...” Long Zhan cursed. When did these two leave a bunch of holes around Skyward?!

The holes like they were the birth of new worlds! They were hiding spots that were connected together.

The rest of the group hadn’t paid attention to or discovered them at all. Why were there holes everywhere near Skyward?? Where had they come from?

Where had they come from? Li Hao and the Human King wouldn’t deign to answer that question. The Sword Sovereign had the answer. Of course, it started with the Human King. Li Hao had added to them later on, but he hadn’t meant them for these purposes.

He was just thinking that there would be a higher degree of security in having multiple escapes. Hence, this wasn’t the only place riddled with holes. They could be found all over the four regions.

The two vanished when they melded into the void!

They hadn’t utilized the holes before because the Skyward master was an exalted emperor of spatial dao. He would easily discover the holes and where they were if they used it. This trump card was essentially useless.

But now, Skyward wasn’t around anymore.
