Chapter 187: The Magma TunnelsThe massive five-million-health Ascended Wyrm towering over the caldera didn’t roar. It didn’t attack.
As Dante crushed the [All Lives Are Equal Scroll], a blinding flash of system-level white light washed over the arena.
The light hit the towering boss, and the massive creature violently shattered like cheap glass.
It wasn’t an execution. It was a dispelled illusion.
The magma lake, the extreme heat wave, and the dead recruits vanished instantly.
The twelve-man squad was standing in a narrow dark volcanic tunnel.
The recruited healers and the secondary tank, who had supposedly just been vaporized, were sitting on the stone floor gasping for breath and clutching their chests.
"An environmental hallucination," Nyx announced and rapidly checked her datapad.
"A highly aggressive fear-trap designed to force players to burn their ultimate consumables before the actual boss room."
Dante looked at the crushed remains of the Saint Destroyer-tier scroll in his gauntlet.
"I am incredibly annoyed," Dante stated flatly and tossed the useless paper into the dirt.
The priceless equalizer artifact of Ryujin was gone. It was wasted on a digital mirage.
"We are alive!" one of the recruited healers cheered and pulled herself up from the floor. "I thought my capsule was going to fry!"
"Stay focused," Dante ordered and drew the [Dawn-Breaker Blade].
"The illusion is gone, but the dungeon is not over. We are pushing into the Magma Tunnels."
The squad reformed their ranks and advanced.
The true volcanic depths of Fire Roc’s Last Wish were a sprawling claustrophobic labyrinth.
The Magma Tunnels were exactly as advertised.
The path consisted of narrow jagged bridges of black rock suspended directly over fast-flowing rivers of molten slag.
The ambient heat was intense but manageable.
Dante took the lead. He used the [Dragon’s Insight] passive on his Celestial helmet to scan the dark winding corridors for traps.
They reached a massive intersection where four narrow rock bridges converged over a particularly wide pool of bubbling lava.
The system interface suddenly flashed a harsh aggressive yellow.
Dante didn’t even have time to shout a warning.
The lava pool surrounding the intersection violently erupted.
Hundreds of sleek heavily armored shapes shot out of the molten rock.
They didn’t have legs or wings. They were massive fifty-foot-long serpents forged entirely from jagged black obsidian.
Magma dripped from the gaps in their segmented armor, and their eyes burned with intense heat.
[Monster Spawn: Obsidian Serpent]
[Tier: Gold]
[Level: 35]
[HP: 55,000 / 55,000]
"Level 35 Gold bosses!" Casanova shrieked and pressed his back against the cavern wall.
"There are hundreds of them! This is not a dungeon pull. It is a extinction event!"
The Obsidian Serpents hissed. It was a deafening sound like steam hitting a hot iron plate.
They didn’t wait for the players to get into position.
They lunged from all directions. Their massive jaws unhinged ready to swallow the squishy backline whole.
Dante prepared to activate [Meteor Stride].
"I got this, Boss!"
Garrick pushed past Dante.
The middle-aged man didn’t look oblivious or confused. He looked incredibly serious.
He stepped into the absolute center of the intersection, and his heavy Silver-tier armor clanked loudly.
"Tanks! On me!" Garrick roared with surprising authoritative military volume.
The recruited secondary tank blinked in shock but immediately sprinted forward. He raised his heavy tower shield to cover the right flank of Garrick.
"You take the left corridor, I take the center and right!" Garrick ordered the recruit. "Do not let them break the choke point! Shield wall, now!"
Garrick slammed his rusty iron sword against his kite shield.
He wasn’t just relying on his raw stats. He was visualizing the astronomical cost of his upcoming divorce lawyer fees.
[Skill Executed: Spiteful Bulwark]
The massive dark red dome of pure unfiltered emotional frustration erupted outward.
It didn’t just cover Garrick. It expanded to block the entire width of the central tunnel intersection.
The secondary tank triggered a standard high-tier AoE taunt. It glowed with a bright blue light that forced the serpents on the left flank to lock their aggro onto his heavy tower shield.
The massive swarm of Obsidian Serpents hit the frontline.
CRASH! CRASH! CRASH!
Dozens of massive heavy stone heads slammed into the red dome.
The impact was absolutely deafening and shook the narrow rock bridges.
Garrick groaned, and his boots skidded back half an inch against the stone. But the shield held perfectly.
The [Spiteful Bulwark] absorbed the kinetic force to prevent the wipe mechanic.
The secondary tank staggered under the weight of three serpents. But Garrick flawlessly stepped sideways and extended the edge of his red dome to cover the blind spot of the recruit.
"He is actually coordinating the frontline," Nyx whispered in genuine shock.
"The wall is set!" Mei cheered. She stood right behind Garrick with her frying pan resting on her shoulder. "Melt them, Boss!"
Dante didn’t move yet.
The frontline was holding the physical impacts, but the sheer volume of health on the field was a massive problem.
Hundreds of Level 35 Gold bosses equaled tens of millions of cumulative hit points.
Even with zero cooldowns, burning through that much raw data was going to drain his stamina significantly.
He didn’t need to do it alone.
Aria stepped forward.
The Level 15 Soul Weaver didn’t hide behind Sera this time. The tiny girl raised her delicately carved wooden flute to her lips.
She closed her eyes and began to play.
The deep, resonant, and impossibly clear hum echoed over the deafening crashes of the serpents hitting the shields.
[Hidden Class Skill Activated: Hymn of Strength]
Aria didn’t cast a single-target buff. The song actively rewrote the systemic baseline of the entire twelve-man squad.
The system interfaces flashed a brilliant blinding gold.
[Party Buff Applied: Absolute Empowerment.]
[Effect 1: Total Attack Power increased by 100%.]
[Effect 2: Grants a flat +1,000 Armor-Piercing True Damage to all offensive actions.]
[Effect 3: Critical Hit Rate locked at 100%.]
Dante felt the raw undeniable surge of power flood his avatar.
His base attack power was already monstrous.
Doubling it, ensuring every single hit was a guaranteed critical, and adding a flat thousand points of true damage completely broke the intended damage caps for his level bracket.
Aria didn’t stop playing. She didn’t drop the flute.
She seamlessly transitioned the melody. The deep hum layered perfectly with a light, incredibly soothing, and airy tune.
[Hidden Class Skill Activated: Life Song]
The interface flashed a brilliant silver right next to the gold.
[Party Buff Applied: Absolute Restoration.]
[Effect: Grants a continuous passive health regeneration of 1,000 HP per second to all allied entities within hearing range.]
"She is dual-casting," Sera gasped and her business facade entirely slipped.
"She is maintaining a 100% damage multiplier and a massive passive heal simultaneously. Her mana drain must be astronomical."
"Aura is feeding her," Dante pointed out.
Hovering directly above the head of Aria, the Grade 8 Mystic Sovereign was pulsing her [Ultimate Guardian Halo].
She completely mitigated the massive mana expenditure of the Soul Weaver to create a flawless infinite loop of party-wide buffs.
The twelve-man squad was entirely unkillable.
"Alright," Dante smiled. He drew the [Dawn-Breaker Blade]. "Let us clean out the tunnels."
He didn’t need to isolate targets. He didn’t need to carefully manage his positioning.
He stepped directly behind the red shield of Garrick and raised his left hand.
[Skill Executed: Cyclone of Ruin]
Because of his [Chrono-Shift] talent, the Zenith-tier wind skill triggered instantly and completely bypassed the mana cost.
The F5 hurricane exploded into existence directly in front of the shield wall to fill the entire center of the intersection.
The massive dark purple vortex roared to life.
The dozens of Obsidian Serpents actively battering the frontline were violently ripped off the ground.
The sheer rotational force sucked them into the air and trapped them in a chaotic high-speed juggle.
But it wasn’t just the wind dealing damage.
The Zenith-tier base damage of Dante was multiplied by the [Hymn of Strength] of Aria.
Every single tick of the hurricane applied a guaranteed critical hit layered with 1,000 points of armor-piercing True Damage.
[-45,000! Critical Hit!]
[-45,000! Critical Hit!]
[-45,000! Critical Hit!]
The massive heavily armored Gold-tier snakes didn’t just take damage. They were run through a digital woodchipper.
The obsidian scales shattered instantly.
The Level 35 bosses were completely pulverized into fine black dust inside the tornado. Their massive health bars zeroed out in less than two seconds.
[Target Eliminated: Obsidian Serpent x15]
Dante didn’t stop. He had zero cooldowns.
He dropped the first hurricane and instantly cast another one further down the left tunnel to suck in the next wave of charging serpents.
He raised his sword.
[Skill Executed: Aether-Blade Storm]
One hundred glowing silver broadswords materialized in the air around him.
He didn’t leave them hovering defensively. He actively directed them forward.
The phantom swords shot down the right corridor like a swarm of missiles.
They impacted the incoming serpents.
Each explosion dealt 1,000% True Damage doubled by the bard buff to ensure a guaranteed critical execution.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
The right tunnel flashed with blinding white detonations.
Dozens of Obsidian Serpents were instantly vaporized into blue polygons before they could even reach the intersection.
"This is a meat grinder," the recruited rogue whispered and lowered his daggers. "I have not swung my weapons once. I am just standing here watching a god do math."
Dante relentlessly spammed his Zenith-tier area-of-effect skills.
[Cyclone of Ruin] tore through the center. [Aether-Blade Storm] devastated the flanks.
He didn’t have to worry about stamina depletion. He didn’t have to worry about taking chip damage.
The [Life Song] of Aria instantly healed the minor environmental heat damage ticking away at his health.
The buffs of Aura kept everyone stabilized.
The Magma Tunnels turned into an absolute slaughterhouse.
The hundreds of Obsidian Serpents were designed to be a brutal grueling war of attrition that systematically drained the resources of a raid group.
They were being deleted faster than the game engine could render their death animations.
"Keep holding the line, Garrick!" Dante called out and dropped another hurricane on a fresh wave of spawns.
"I am not even tired!" Garrick laughed, and his red dome glowed brightly. "This is way cheaper than therapy!"
Pip fluttered frantically over the magma pools.
He tried desperately to vacuum up the massive endless rain of gold coins and high-tier crafting materials dropping from the pulverized bosses.
"Too much loot!" Pip shrieked happily and dropped a massive pile of silver weapons directly onto the head of Casanova. "My tiny draconic spine is breaking!"
In less than five minutes, the massive ambush was entirely broken.
The intersection was completely silent save for the bubbling of the lava below.
Over three hundred Level 35 Gold bosses had been completely eradicated.
[Experience Gained. Level Up!]
[Level Up!]
Dante watched his level tick up to 74. The sheer volume of raw data absorbed from the serpent horde was astronomical.
He sheathed his sword, and the glowing gold metal clicked softly into the scabbard.
He looked at Aria.
The tiny Level 15 player lowered her wooden flute. She wasn’t panting or sweating. She looked completely refreshed.
"That was a nice song," Dante said simply.
Aria beamed, and her brown eyes sparkled. "Thank you, Mr. Hero! I practiced a lot in the beginner village!"
Dante turned his attention to the dark winding tunnel leading deeper into the volcanic network.
The path was clear, but the ambient temperature was rising rapidly. The lava rivers beneath the bridges were flowing faster.
The serpent horde had been the gatekeeper.
"Alright," Dante ordered and checked his buff timers.
"The trash is clear. The real boss is waiting for us. Let us go claim that egg."
