Chapter 207: The Sakura FlankThe slaughter at the chokepoint was absolute.
Dante stood at the edge of the plateau, relentlessly spamming [Aether-Blade Storm]. Hundreds of silver swords rained down into the gorge every few seconds, exploding into supernovas of True Damage.
Garrick held the front line flawlessly, his [Spiteful Bulwark] easily absorbing the desperate, uncoordinated magical return fire from the allied army.
Lila and Nyx continued their brutal, synchronized area-of-effect combinations, crushing and impaling anyone who managed to survive Dante’s orbital bombardment.
The fifty-thousand-man army was completely stalled. They couldn’t push forward, and they couldn’t retreat without getting trampled by their own backline.
Down in the gorge, Ryujin watched the massacre with cold, calculating detachment.
The Guild Master of the Black Dragon Syndicate didn’t care about the Vanguard’s Legacy infantry dying in the mud. He cared about securing the kill and salvaging his reputation.
"A frontal assault against an invulnerable tank is idiocy," Ryujin muttered to himself, turning his gaze away from the chokepoint.
He looked up at the towering cliffs that flanked the eastern side of the plateau where Aegis Vanguard was entrenched.
The cliffs were sheer, covered in thick, dark moss and ancient, twisting roots. They were practically vertical, impossible to scale for a standard, heavily armored player.
But Ryujin didn’t command standard players.
He raised his hand in a silent, sharp gesture.
Instantly, a hundred players detached themselves from the chaotic rear ranks of the Sakura Nation forces.
They weren’t wearing the heavy crimson samurai armor of the frontline warriors. They wore incredibly sleek, unreflective dark gray leather.
They carried no shields, only long, curved daggers and climbing hooks.
It was the elite stealth detachment of the Black Dragon Syndicate.
Ryujin didn’t yell an order. He activated a private, heavily encrypted comms channel.
"They are distracted by the meat grinder at the front door," Ryujin whispered. "Scale the eastern cliffs. Maintain absolute stealth. Do not engage the anomaly or the tank. Bypass them entirely.
Your targets are the blue-haired mage dropping the gravity wells, the tiny healer playing the flute, and the floating pet. Assassinate the support structure, and the frontline will collapse."
[Scout_Lead: Understood, God-King. We are moving into position.]
Ryujin smirked behind his mask. "Once you break their backline, I will personally scale the wall and take Dan’s head."
The hundred assassins broke away from the main army, slipping seamlessly into the thick underbrush at the base of the cliffs. They moved with terrifying, practiced silence.
They reached the rock face.
Instead of climbing slowly, the assassins activated high-tier, specialized rogue mobility skills.
They blurred into the shadows, scaling the vertical stone with impossible speed, using the twisted roots and jagged rocks as leverage.
Within ninety seconds, the lead scouts breached the top of the cliff, slipping silently onto the eastern edge of the plateau, completely behind Dante and his squad.
The Aegis Vanguard team was entirely focused on the gorge. Dante was launching swords. Lila was casting gravity wells. Aria was playing her flute.
They were completely exposed.
[Scout_Lead: We are in position. Targets acquired. Engaging.]
The assassins didn’t break stealth. They drew their poisoned daggers, preparing to launch a perfectly synchronized, hundred-man backstab volley that would instantly zero out the squishy support players.
The lead scout took a step forward, raising his dagger toward Aria’s back.
He didn’t make the strike.
The shadows directly beneath the scout’s boots didn’t just shift. They violently opened.
A hand forged entirely from concentrated darkness reached out of the floor and grabbed the scout by the ankle.
The assassin didn’t even have time to gasp. He was violently, soundlessly yanked straight down into the shadow on the ground, completely disappearing from the physical plane.
His health bar vanished instantly.
[Target Eliminated: Sakura Scout (Level 35)]
The remaining ninety-nine assassins froze in absolute terror.
They hadn’t been detected by a flare or a massive AoE spell. Their comrade had simply been swallowed by the floor.
"What happened to the commander?" an assassin whispered through the comms.
"He just fell through the map!" another panicked.
A soft, dark chuckle echoed from the shadows of the ancient trees lining the edge of the plateau.
Nyx stepped out from the darkness. The top-tier analyst wasn’t looking at her datapad. She had her dark glasses pushed up onto her forehead, her sharp eyes scanning the seemingly empty space where the invisible assassins were hiding.
"You guys have terrible pathing logic," Nyx stated casually, adjusting the cuffs of her dark suit.
She didn’t possess a massive, glowing weapon or heavy armor. She was an analyst. But she also possessed the [God of Shadow] Hidden Class she had unlocked in Pet Blossom Valley.
"She can see us!" an assassin yelled, panic breaking their strict stealth discipline. "Kill her!"
Ten assassins broke stealth simultaneously, lunging out of the brush to strike the unarmored woman.
They didn’t even get close.
Nyx didn’t dodge or cast a defensive barrier. She simply tapped the pet icon on her interface.
Violet, the Level 45 Mischievous boomshade trickster materialized instantly in the air directly above the charging assassins.
The rogue NPC didn’t use a magical spell. She smiled her wide, malicious grin and threw a handful of glowing pink dust directly into the faces of the charging players.
The hallucinogenic spores hit instantly.
The ten assassins stopped their charge. They dropped their daggers, screaming in absolute terror as their reality was completely overwritten by the boomshade trickster high-tier illusion magic.
They started wildly swinging their fists at empty air, convinced they were being swarmed by monsters.
"Clean them up, Violet," Nyx ordered smoothly.
Violet blurred into motion, dropping down among the hallucinating players. She didn’t use flashy skills.
She simply walked behind them and cleanly slit their throats one by one with her jagged daggers.
[-18,000! Fatal Damage!]
[-18,000! Fatal Damage!]
The ten elite players exploded into blue pixels.
The remaining eighty assassins completely broke. They abandoned the mission to assassinate the healers.
They turned around, desperate to scramble back down the cliffs to escape the terrifying shadow mage and her psychotic pet.
They didn’t make it to the edge.
Standing perfectly in their escape path, leaning casually against a massive, indestructible cast-iron frying pan, was Mei.
"Going somewhere, boys?" Mei grinned cheerfully.
The Brawler had slipped away from the frontline when Dante ordered the artillery strike, specifically positioned by Nyx to cover the rear flank.
"Get out of the way!" a terrified assassin screamed, raising his dagger. "It’s just a brawler! Push through her!"
The eighty assassins charged the single girl.
Mei didn’t look worried. She hoisted the [God-Slaying Skillet] onto her shoulder.
"Batter up!" Mei cheered.
She activated her highest-tier offensive skill.
[Skill Executed: Colossal Manifestation]
The four-foot frying pan didn’t just grow. It violently exploded in size, instantly transforming into a thirty-foot-wide monolith of indestructible black iron.
The massive expansion of the weapon completely blocked the entire path leading back to the cliffs.
Mei gripped the tree-trunk-sized handle with both hands, using her Brawler momentum to swing the massive weapon in a brutal, horizontal sweep directly into the charging crowd.
CLANG!
The impact was absolutely catastrophic.
The assassins didn’t wear heavy armor. They were squishy rogues.
The massive iron pan slammed into them, perfectly catching dozens of players in a single swing.
The blunt-force trauma completely bypassed any evasion stats they possessed.
[-25,000! Critical Hit! OVERKILL!]
[-25,000! Critical Hit! OVERKILL!]
Dozens of players were physically launched into the air, their avatars zeroing out before they even hit the ground. They exploded into a massive, synchronized shower of blue pixels and dropped loot.
"Whack-a-mole!" Pip the tiny dragon shrieked happily from Mei’s shoulder, immediately swooping down to grab the raining silver coins.
Mei didn’t stop swinging. She turned the massive pan into a indestructible wall of death, continuously batting the panicking assassins back into the center of the plateau where Nyx and Violet were waiting in the shadows.
It wasn’t a fight. It was pest control.
The Sakura Nation’s elite flank was entirely, flawlessly eradicated in less than three minutes.
Down in the gorge, Ryujin stood near the backline, waiting eagerly for the notification that Dante’s support squad was dead.
He didn’t receive a notification.
He saw a massive shower of blue pixels erupt from the top of the eastern cliff, followed by a heavy rain of dropped daggers and leather armor falling onto the dirt below.
Ryujin stared at the falling loot in absolute horror.
He didn’t need a status report to know his entire elite stealth detachment had just been casually wiped out without Dante even turning around to help.
"They failed," Ryujin whispered, his hands trembling.
The Sakura Nation leader looked up at the plateau. The endless rain of silver swords was still falling. The gravity wells were still crushing the vanguard.
Dante’s anomaly squad wasn’t just holding the line. They were completely impenetrable from every angle.
Ryujin slowly lowered his katana. The Warlord’s arrogance finally, completely broke. He realized they couldn’t win a war of attrition against an enemy that didn’t take damage and didn’t use resources.
"We have to use the artillery," Ryujin told Gawain, his voice frantic. "A direct assault is mathematical suicide."
