Chapter 1453: Chapter 701
On the wide double bed, the disarrayed silk sheets were mostly dragged onto the floor.
Two overturned wine glasses had spilled their contents, leaving dark red stains on the carpet.
The air was thick with the strong smell of wine, and an unyielding aura of intimacy lingered.
The entire suite was in chaos.
Night Owl wiped the cold sweat from his forehead, climbed up from the floor, and draped a silk robe over his shoulders.
Then he walked to the liquor cabinet and poured two glasses of whiskey.
Picking up a glass, the ice cubes clinked crisply against the side of the glass.
"Would you like a drink?"
Night Owl turned around and handed over one of the glasses of whiskey.
"No need."
White Ghost coldly refused, not taking the glass.
Night Owl, put out, withdrew his hand and tilted his head to take a sip of the strong liquor himself.
The spicy liquid flowed down his throat, dispelling the lingering anxiety within him.
White Ghost raised his gloved right hand, lightly pressing the mechanical clasp at his neck.
With a faint metal locking sound, the full-face mask retracted to both sides, disappearing into the collar, revealing his true face.
It was a face so pale it almost lacked any color, its jawline sharp as if cut by a knife.
A thin, long scar slashed across the left brow bone, paired with those cold, grey eyes.
Like some cold-blooded reptile, staring at him, displaying pure indifference and bloodlust.
Night Owl lowered his eyelids, masking the flash of jealousy and helplessness in his eyes.
Once upon a time, in the ranks of assassins within the Black Shark Organization, he, Ghost Scythe, and White Ghost were the top three aces.
They were all at the upper levels of S-Class, with little difference in strength, and he and Ghost Scythe were even known as the organization’s left and right protectors.
But now, he was lost in the enjoyment of money and beauty, having long surrendered the sharpness of his youth.
Meanwhile, White Ghost, this battle fanatic, accomplished a great deed recently and was personally rewarded by the master, breaking the genetic shackles and advancing to the Super S-Class monster category.
Today, White Ghost had been directly pushed to the forefront by the former leader Claude, temporarily taking over as the Black Shark Leader.
Though Night Owl ranked below him, he still habitually referred to him as "Captain," just as before.
Yet no matter what, he couldn’t fight against the absolute suppression of strength, and could only bow his head in obedience.
"Captain."
Night Owl took a sip of whiskey, calmed his emotions, and assumed a very formal attitude:
"Why did you suddenly come to East Capital?"
White Ghost did not immediately respond to Night Owl’s gripes.
He took wide strides to the floor-to-ceiling window, pressing one hand against the glass, overlooking the bustling city night scene below.
The pure white figure was wrapped in the neon lights, emanating an aura of ’keep away.’
With his silence, the suite’s temperature seemingly dropped a few degrees.
The stench of blood from the Corpse Mountain Blood Sea constricted Night Owl’s breathing.
White Ghost gazed at the night scene outside, after a long time he spoke:
"Black Shark’s recent losses have somewhat exceeded that individual’s limits of tolerance."
White Ghost’s voice echoed in the hotel suite.
Without the voice changer, his original voice was low and sharp, even more chilling with cold cruelty.
Speaking, he turned around, leaning back against the floor-to-ceiling window, his grey eyes stagnant and fixed on Night Owl:
"While I was practicing in the Otherworld, you and Ghost Scythe had the management rights, now everything is in disarray."
"One died without a corpse, the other lost in lust, has Black Shark become a soft target for anyone to trample under your hands?"
Upon hearing this, Night Owl tightened his grip on the wine glass, his face clouding over.
He did not immediately refute, walked to the sofa, sat down, and placed the wine glass on the marble coffee table.
Then, he spoke in a muffled tone:
"Indeed, Ghost Scythe came to East Capital to carry out an assignment but unfortunately died at the hands of the legendary murderer ’White Owl.’
"But it was assigned from above, the target involved core secrets, and we weren’t provided detailed intelligence beforehand, no one expected a monster like that to appear out of nowhere."
"If responsibility must be pursued, it falls on the inadequacy of our pre-action investigations, clearly underestimating White Owl’s strength."
"This is entirely my fault, I’m willing to take full punishment, not shirking at all."
Having said this, Night Owl poured another glass of whiskey, gulping it down immediately.
The strong liquor burned into the stomach through his throat; he slammed the empty glass onto the table assertively, a stance ready for whatever consequences.
"And what about Ghost Fox?"
White Ghost looked at him, expressionless:
"Even the leader responsible for Xia Country base affairs went missing. The organization has suffered repeated serious damage lately, continuously losing key figures, how will you explain this to the higher-ups?"
Night Owl set down the wine glass, pulled his mouth in a grim smile:
"For this matter, I have no explanation, except to say it’s a unlucky streak, running into tough characters one after another."
He paused, sinking slightly into the soft sofa cushion, tone tinged with self-deprecation:
"Actually, I’ve told you long ago that with my ability and disposition, I’m completely unfit to be the leader of the organization."
"If it weren’t for Ghost Scythe’s death and you choosing to go into closed-door cultivation, Black Shark wouldn’t have fallen to me, perhaps these messes wouldn’t have happened."
Faced with the complaints of his former colleague, White Ghost remained indifferent.
He looked down at the person on the sofa without any movement in his brows.
