Chapter 1460: Chapter 704_2

Every weekend, this place becomes a haven for white-collar workers from the nearby big cities.

Many people rush over with their suitcases right after getting off work on Friday, afraid they might miss out on a good room if they’re a step too late.

Besides playing in the water and relaxing, the primary purpose of their long journey is to satisfy their appetites.

Enjoying a meal of fresh seafood just unloaded from the fishing boats is how most people reward themselves.

Fang Cheng walked among the crowd, his eyes scanning the bustling food stalls filled with diners on either side.

The crowd here seems to have doubled compared to when he was here six months ago.

It seems like Yong’an Island has been developing quite well recently.

With him leading the way, Zhou Xiumei, Wen Xin, Lin Chuqiao, and Pan Wendi followed him into a local outdoor seafood stall well-regarded by the locals.

Fang Cheng had eaten here once before, and he still reminisced about the authentic seafood dishes.

Returning to Yong’an Island this time, he naturally wanted to bring them here to try something new.

A few greasy round folding tables were pushed together, and everyone sat down in turn.

It wasn’t long before the owner came over carrying several large stainless-steel trays.

Steamed grouper, spicy crab stir-fry, garlic oysters, and a large bowl of boiled shrimp quickly filled the table, steaming with heat.

"Wow, it looks so delicious!"

Wen Xin, sitting next to Fang Cheng, opened her eyes wide, holding a crab claw larger than her hand in both hands.

However, the little girl couldn’t bite through the tough shell, her cheeks puffing up in frustration, with a ring of red oil around her lips.

Pan Wendi, sitting opposite her, couldn’t help but laugh out loud at her predicament:

"Little girl, your teeth can’t handle this hard bone."

Lin Chuqiao glared at her cousin: "You’re all talk; I don’t see you helping out."

Seeing this, Fang Cheng reached over and took the crab claw from Wen Xin, pinching the ends with his fingers.

With a gentle squeeze, a crisp sound of cracking could be heard as the tough shell shattered.

He picked up a clean pair of chopsticks casually, extracted the plump crab meat inside, and placed it into Wen Xin’s bowl.

"Thank you, brother."

Wen Xin’s face blossomed with a smile, as she happily lowered her head and began eating.

Pan Wendi raised his glass of chilled beer, toasting across the table:

"Brother Cheng, let’s have a drink."

Fang Cheng raised his beer mug in response, clinked it against his, and took a big gulp.

"Refreshing!"

Pan Wendi shouted, downing half the bottle, wiping his mouth, and loudly calling for the owner to bring two more plates of oysters.

Lin Chuqiao was seated to Fang Cheng’s right.

Despite being in such a noisy outdoor stall, her movements still exuded a grace and composure cultivated from an early age.

She pulled out a wet wipe, diligently wiping the sauce from her fingertips.

Then, using a porcelain spoon, she scooped a piece of boneless grouper into her mouth, savoring it as she chewed.

Zhou Xiumei was much quieter, sitting with her head down peeling the boiled shrimp.

After peeling the translucent shells, she stacked some pink and white shrimp meat in the small dish in front of her, then pushed it over to Fang Cheng’s side.

Fang Cheng smiled at her: "You should eat more yourself, don’t just focus on peeling for me."

Lin Chuqiao watched this, her eyes sparkling.

Her chopsticks picked up a piece of rich crab roe, placing it in Fang Cheng’s bowl, a smile tugging at her lips:

"Brother Cheng, I remember you like spicy food. The spicy crab here tastes really authentic. If you like it, I’ll learn to make it for you later."

The two women on either side subtly attended to Fang Cheng, the grand man.

Pan Wendi, chewing an oyster, watched the scene unfold, unable to help but click his tongue in amazement.

He winked at Fang Cheng but smartly refrained from adding to the commotion.

The seafood feast left everyone’s mouths dripping with oil, utterly enjoying themselves.

After the meal, the group strolled along the gourmet street to aid digestion.

Wen Xin walked at the front, holding a half-eaten sausage, pausing in front of a stall selling specialty handicrafts.

She looked up, eyes fixated on a colorful swallow kite hanging on a bamboo rack.

After watching for a while, she licked her lips but obediently kept silent.

Lin Chuqiao, walking behind, followed the little girl’s gaze and paused.

She immediately pulled out her wallet, paid, and took the swallow kite from the seller, carrying the wooden reel to Wen Xin.

"Hold onto it and we’ll fly it at the beach later."

Lin Chuqiao bent down slightly, handed the reel to Wen Xin, and said with a smile.

Wen Xin’s eyes lit up. She quickly threw the bamboo skewer in her hand into a trash can and wiped her mouth with the back of her hand.

Then, she took the kite with both hands and cheerfully exclaimed, "Thank you, Sister Chuqiao!"

Hearing this, Lin Chuqiao felt a secret joy in her heart, glad that she was no longer called auntie.

Zhou Xiumei stood a half-step behind, watching Wen Xin play cheerfully with the kite, and lightly pinched the corner of her skirt.

She pursed her lips, feeling a twinge of regret for being a step slower.

By the time they walked out of the street, the sky had darkened, with the distant sunset lighting a streak of orange-red across the horizon.

Even though it wasn’t early, under Wen Xin’s expectant gaze, Fang Cheng still nodded in agreement to her request to play on the beach.

They passed through a grove of banana trees, and the view suddenly opened up.

The fine white sandy beach was still crowded with tourists.

Waves repeatedly surged ashore, mingled with the clamoring sounds of people, crashing against the rocks.

Although Wen Xin had been clamoring to fly the kite quickly in the street earlier, now that she was on the vast beach, faced with strangers and rolling waves, she seemed a bit shy.

She moved closer to Fang Cheng, clutching the hem of his shirt tightly with one hand, eyes filled with a mix of excitement and timidity, unwilling to walk forward alone.

"What are you afraid of? With me here, the waves won’t get to you."

Fang Cheng smiled, patting her head, and casually took the kite reel from her hands.

He then pulled out a long string and turned to run a few steps against the sea breeze.

With a flick of his arm and a swift shake of his wrist,

the swallow kite caught the rising air current from the sea and wobbled into the sky.

"Hold on tight, and pull back twice once the wind stops."

Fang Cheng steadied the line, placed the wooden reel wrapped with nylon string back into Wen Xin’s hand, and then guided her by the shoulder on how to release and retract the line with the wind.

With the kite drawing her in, Wen Xin’s attention shifted, and she gradually loosened up, running forward on the sand.

Zhou Xiumei and Lin Chuqiao stood on the dry sand slightly further back.

Both were wearing dresses and sandals, and to maintain a ladylike image, they did not go into the water.

Standing side by side, they watched Fang Cheng and Wen Xin running and playing ahead, having sporadic chats while maintaining a vague sense of propriety.

Soon, Pan Wendi, feeling hot, tore off the attention-grabbing floral shirt, and with just a big pair of shorts, dashed into the shallow water.

He had no trace of adult demeanor, making strange sounds and splashing water everywhere, directly drenching Wen Xin’s feet.

Amused, Wen Xin’s earlier shyness vanished. Holding the kite line in one hand, she scooped up sea water with the other to splash back at Pan Wendi.

Taking the kite line, Pan Wendi led Wen Xin in a mad dash along the beach, the pair engaging in a lively water fight.

Fang Cheng stood in place, watching Pan Wendi and Wen Xin playing energetically, then turned and walked to where Lin Chuqiao and Zhou Xiumei stood by the shore.

"I’m going to buy some cold drinks. What would you like?" he asked.

"I’ll go. You’ve been handling everything all the way here." Lin Chuqiao offered, about to turn.

Zhou Xiumei nodded and chimed in,

"Brother Cheng, I can go get them. The cold drink stand isn’t far."

"No need, you both stay here and keep an eye on the two of them."

Fang Cheng stopped the two, firmly stating,

"It’s crowded and chaotic by the sea. Wendi gets carried away when he’s playing. Make sure Wen Xin doesn’t wander into the deep water."

Hearing this, the two women did not insist any further.

After confirming their preferred juice flavors, Fang Cheng turned away, heading towards the street without looking back.

As he moved away from the beach noise, his pace picked up.

Buying drinks was really just an excuse to slip away.

He needed to go to a nearby blacksmith’s shop to order a batch of thickened lead boxes in advance.

Preparing for the retrieval of those strongly radioactive ancient relics.
