"Finally..."
Silas finally reached the gilded oak door of Evelyn’s private suite, it was a grueling journey especially after thinking about ripping the heads of those people constantly.
"I’m coming in."
He opened the heavy door and stepped inside, closing and locking it firmly behind him to block out the noise of the hallway.
Evelyn was still seated exactly where he had left her on the curved velvet sofa.
She wasn’t smoking anymore as she just had a wide ecstatic smile plastered across her pale face, completely visible beneath the raised edge of her Kitsune mask.
"Did the acting plan go out well?" Silas asked casually, unbuttoning his dark top of the uniform to vent the heat of the fight.
Evelyn didn’t even use words to answer as she just confirmed it with a frantic enthusiastic nod.
"Proof?"
She grabbed her glowing datapad and physically flipped it around to show him the screen.
Silas looked at the glowing numbers.
[60,000,000.]
Silas nodded.
’I’m impressed for myself... my acting skills are that good? If I didn’t become a Lord, I could have been an actor.’
He walked over to the sofa and formally extended his large black-gloved hand outward for a business handshake.
Evelyn immediately reached out and returned the firm grip.
They both gave each other a single synchronized nod of their heads, completely united by the sheer thrill of financial robbery.
"You’re an incredibly good business partner." Evelyn said, her dark eyes shining with respect.
"I agree, that’s what I am..." Silas replied smoothly, dropping her hand. "But you are also incredibly lazy for just staying up here in the air conditioning while I do all the actual manual labor."
Evelyn’s lips instantly thinned into a flat annoyed line.
She immediately tried to aggressively squeeze his fingers in her grip to punish his insolence, channeling her strength.
’Fuck...’
It didn’t work. Grabbing Silas’s hand felt exactly like trying to crush a solid block of reinforced steel as he didn’t even flinch.
"Haa... Even your brain is made of muscle." Evelyn cursed as she let go of his hand while rubbing her sore fingers.
’Should I tell her hers is made of tobacco or cigarettes?’
She quickly changed the subject, tapping the console on the glass table.
"The next fight is about to begin in the dirt," Evelyn said, maximizing the massive floating holographic tab that projected the arena feed into the center of the room.
She patted the empty velvet cushion right beside her thigh.
"Do you want to sit down and watch the live feed of your next potential opponents together?" Evelyn asked.
Silas just stood there.
He gave her a long flat and exhausted look through the narrow slits of his Oni mask.
’Do we have to...?’
He didn’t want to watch the fights as those guys were weak, if Silas could, he just wanted to sleep.
Regardless, he reluctantly walked over and sat down heavily on the edge of the sofa, keeping a respectable foot of distance between them.
Evelyn looked at his slumped posture.
"You haven’t even actually rested your muscles since we got to Shogitown," Evelyn pointed out, her voice softening slightly with genuine concern as she patted her own legs. "Would you like to lay down and rest your head on my soft lap while we watch? I heard young guys like you like that... You know to rest your head on the thighs of an older woman such as myself."
Silas slowly turned his head.
He gave her another look.
It was a look that communicated a thousand words of judgment, completely shutting down the intimate suggestion. That was all that needed to be said.
However, Evelyn, fueled by the adrenaline of winning sixty million credits, didn’t want to give up the banter.
’I won’t give you the satisfaction of walking away from this scot-free... but how... how do I convince him?’ Evelyn thought and then her eyes lit up, how could she forget?!
"I’ll pay you a cool one million Spirit Credits if you do it," Evelyn offered, crossing her arms with a smug grin. "Consider it a bonus... It’s for your own physical sake as you need the rest."
Silas didn’t even blink as he continued staring straight ahead at the hologram.
Seeing that he wouldn’t budge for a million, she aggressively increased the bid.
"Not going to answer eh? Fine... Three million credits this time." Evelyn challenged.
Silas still didn’t budge an inch. Instead he let out a deep tired sigh.
"I already have seventy-five million credits sitting securely in my personal bank account," Silas stated dryly while stating a fact. "Why the hell would I possibly nee—"
"Twenty million." Evelyn called the absurd number without a second of hesitation and Silas stopped talking instantly.
’Ah... I’m a sucker for money, aren’t I?’
Silas immediately shifted his body weight sideways on the velvet sofa, kicked his combat boots up onto the armrest, and gently rested his head directly onto the soft exposed skin of her pale thighs.
’Twenty million?’ Silas justified the sudden loss of his personal space with pure logic. ’Letting an easy twenty million credits just go by for the sake of pride? Is she insane? I would sell out the World Council to a demon lord for half that.’
Twenty million was money... and Silas wasn’t exactly the kind of person to waste money, even if he did have a lot of it.
"Hehehehe~"
Evelyn burst out laughing, looking down at the terrifying demon mask resting comfortably on her lap.
"You are so utterly shameless!" Evelyn giggled, thoroughly enjoying the victory. "Selling your entire dignity and your personal boundaries for twenty million credits? You are so cheap!"
"Shut up and pay me," Silas muttered from her lap, closing his eyes.
Evelyn smiled softly.
She gently reached down with her hand with her fingers slowly, rhythmically stroking the dark and slightly damp hair at the back of his head.
"Just rest," Evelyn told him quietly. "And watch the screen."
The holographic screen in the center of the room flared brightly, lighting up the dim suite, and a secondary smaller betting screen instantly appeared hovering right beside it.
’So who should I bet on?’ Evelyn thought, even if Silas was not participating right now... who was to say she couldn’t make money? ’Let’s go for Blood Saint, I’m not dumb enough to put all my money on him though! Let’s say 5 million!’
She tapped it and it only had a return of 50, 000?
’Dammit!’
...
Down in the massive newly cleaned arena, the roaring crowd had settled back into their seats.
The Announcer’s voice boomed over the speakers.
"LADIES AND GENTLEMEN! THE SECOND MATCH OF THE BRACKET IS UPON US!" the Announcer declared. "THE TWO FIGHTERS OF ROUND TWO WILL NOW BE STEPPING INTO THE FIELD!"
The heavy steel hatches ground open immediately.
"In the red corner, the man with the scalpel... THE SURGEON!"
The thin and unnervingly calm wiry man stepped out into the dirt. He was wearing his pristine freshly cleaned translucent vinyl medical apron and his glowing surgical goggles.
"And in the blue corner... the zealot of the slaughter... BLOOD-SAINT!"
The terrifying fanatic wearing the tattered blood-soaked priest’s robes stepped out with his bare feet sinking into the mud.
The two armed killers walked slowly toward each other on the massive field.
They stopped and stood exactly thirty feet away from each other in the center of the ring.
CLANG!
The heavy steel hatches slammed completely closed behind them as the Null-stone cage hummed violently to life, sealing them inside the anti-magic field.
The Surgeon, maintaining his cold persona, adjusted his glowing goggles.
He looked at the crazed priest and tried to start some light psychological small talk before the buzzer.
"Your cardiovascular system appears highly elevated," The Surgeon noted smoothly, raising his hands. "I can perform a quick permanent operation to relieve that pressure for you..."
The Surgeon paused as he suddenly coughed softly into his hand, clearing his throat.
"I have a condition... don’t mind me..."
Blood-Saint didn’t say a single word in response.
He just stood there with his head tilted slightly to the side.
There was a completely crazed unfocused look in his wide bloodshot eyes... one that the good doctor knew all too well, a look that promised nothing but torturous blood.
BEEEEEEP!
The starting buzzer blared and the very instant the fight officially started, The Surgeon didn’t hesitate.
He was a professional killer after all.
WHOOSH!
He immediately leapt backward with incredible acrobatic agility to create distance and while mid-air, his hands blurred into his dirty blood-stained robes.
"I hope you like my gift, Bloood Sain– Gah! Saint!"
He smoothly retrieved six perfectly balanced throwing scalpels and with a flick of his wrists, he shot all six blades through the air simultaneously.
WHOOSH! WHOOSH! WHOOSH! WHOOSH! WHOOSH! WHOOSH!
He threw them with terrifying pinpoint accuracy as the scalpels whistled through the air, heading directly over to the unmoving Blood-Saint.
SHLUCK! SHLUCK! SHLUCK!
The sharp wet impacts echoed over the dirt.
All six blades buried themselves deeply into Blood-Saint’s chest, neck, and thighs as they struck the exact vital spots required to sever the major arteries and puncture the lungs.
The Surgeon landed gracefully on his feet in the dirt.
He smirked beneath his goggles.
’And just like that, it’s over...’
He had hit the lethal marks naturally, A regular human couldn’t survive that much internal bleeding for more than five seconds.
Only for a massive blood-soaked hand to suddenly violently seize The Surgeon’s right ankle.
The Surgeon’s eyes widened in terror as he let out a choked terrified gasp.
"Ghk!"
He looked down.
Blood-Saint was literally crouching directly in front of him, gripping his leg with the crushing force of a hydraulic press.
The six scalpels were still buried deeply into the priest’s flesh, but he completely ignored the fatal wounds.
The Surgeon’s mind shattered.
’It has been less than a single instant...’ The Surgeon panicked internally, struggling to pull his leg free. ’How the fuck did he get here? How is he still physically moving with a punctured lung?!’
Blood-Saint slowly looked up, his face twisted into a horrifying wide smile.
"My god has spoken to me," Blood-Saint whispered with his voice becoming a wet rattling rasp.
He casually ripped one of the scalpels out of his own neck with blood pouring down his chest. "He predicted that you would die a very, very horrible death tonight."
Before The Surgeon could even open his mouth to scream for a forfeit—
Blood-Saint stood up, lifting the screaming Surgeon entirely upside down by his ankle.
"RAHHHHHHHH!"
With a roar of pure strength, Blood-Saint swung the struggling man violently downward like a human baseball bat.
SPLAT!
He slammed The Surgeon’s face and upper skull directly, brutally down into the packed dirt of the arena floor.
The impact was sickening.
It literally popped the man’s head completely open like a dropped, overripe melon, instantly spraying a massive fountain of dark red blood and brain matter all over the dirt and the priest’s tattered robes.
THUD!
The sickening sound of the Surgeon’s headless body hitting the packed dirt echoed through the sudden horrifying silence of the colossal arena.
"That was quite easy..."
Blood-Saint didn’t even bother wiping the thick spray of gray brain matter and dark crimson gore from his pale twitching face.
He casually opened his massive blood-soaked hand as he completely released his crushing grip on the dead man’s ankle.
The Surgeon’s limp decapitated corpse hit the mud with its limbs giving one final, pathetic twitch against the dirt before going permanently still.
Blood-Saint slowly stood up to his full towering height as he threw his long arms wide open to the roaring stadium with his tattered priest robes flapping heavily in the drafts of the cavern.
’This man... is he mad?’ The Announcer thought, It was such a brutal show that it could not even be called a fight... It had been a simple slaughter and the man felt if he looked at the priest right now, he might be the next too.
Blood-Saint slowly turned his crazed bloodshot eyes across the massive dirt field as he ignored the Announcer and he ignored the thousands of screaming fans.
"Heh..."
He locked his manic gaze directly onto the dark shadowed tunnel where Silas had exited earlier.
"THE DEMON IS NEXT!" Blood-Saint roared into the air.
His voice wasn’t just loud but it possessed a power that easily overpowered the ambient noise of the thousands of screaming spectators.
It sounded like a man drowning in his own lungs, yet possessing the strength of a titan.
"HEAR ME! I WILL BE SLAUGHTERING ONII-CHAN NEXT!" Blood-Saint shrieked, pointing a dripping crimson-stained finger at the empty hatch. "HIS BLOOD WILL BE A SACRED OFFERING TO MY GOD!"
