Chapter 370: The Final Round [II / Bonus - ]Chapter 370: The Final Round [II / Bonus Chapter]
CLANG!
The veteran sniper team leader standing beside him didn’t even hesitate as he violently slammed the heavy steel-reinforced butt of his own rifle directly against the side of the rookie’s helmet.
"Ow! What the hell?!"
"Shut your damn mouth and watch your firing sector, you idiot!" the team leader barked harshly. "Look at his shoulder housing! The weapon feed is hard-wired directly into his synthetic spinal column! It’s a biological-cybernetic implant, not an external weapon! The Boss approved his schematics yesterday! Now shut up and scan for rogue mana surges!"
Down in the dirt pit, the arena was a slaughterhouse of flying metal.
PING-PING-PING-PING-PING!
"AHHHHHHHHHHH!"
Blood-Saint shrieked in rage as the heavy stream of lead bore down on him.
Even with his hyper-accelerated reflexes, the density of the firing cone made evasion mathematically impossible.
CRUNCH!
Without a second thought, Blood-Saint bit down violently on his own left thumb, completely severing the flesh to the bone.
SPLURT!
A massive volume of dark pressurized blood erupted from the wound and Blood-Saint caught the fluid in his palm and violently swept his arm outward.
"Hehehehee...."
HISSSS... CLACK!
The blood ignited with mana that was already stored in it.
Defying the laws of physics, the fluid instantly solidified mid-air into a dense crimson tower shield of hyper-crystallized iron.
D-D-D-D-D-D-D-DANG!
The heavy armor-piercing rounds slammed into the blood-shield with deafening metallic rings, sending red sparks cascading across the mud, slowly chipping away at the dense barrier.
Across the ring, Cyber Ghost let out a sharp mocking laugh over his external speakers.
"Primitive brute," Cyber Ghost sneered.
BZZZZT!
He hit the primary dial on his phase-shift belt and his entire body flickered violently, dissolving completely into a translucent, dark gray silhouette of pure gas.
SWOOSH-SWOOSH-SWOOSH!
The dense barrage of supersonic ammunition tore harmlessly straight through the gaseous cloud, passing through his non-corporeal form without transferring an ounce of energy, sparking uselessly against the reinforced Null-stone pillars behind him.
And in the center of the crossfire... stood Silas.
He didn’t summon a blood shield and he didn’t phase into high-tech gas either... because he couldn’t, however the audience was waiting to see what the legendary man would be able to pull off.
"GO, ONII-CHAN! I BET ALL OF MY MONEY ON YOU!"
"FUCKING MOVE ALREADY!"
Silas simply inhaled a slow breath.
Shhhhh!
Beneath the silver metal of his Oni mask, the pale glow in his eyes flared into the razor-sharp brilliance of his Rip-Current Perception.
To Silas, the world around him became slow as though he was in water.
The deafening roar of the minigun turned into a deep bass-heavy pulse.
The clouds of pulverized dust hung suspended in mid-air like static constellations and the thousands of high-velocity lead slugs tore through the space before him at the agonizingly slow pace of drifting dandelion seeds.
Silas saw the exact rifling spin on every single bullet.
He saw the microscopic trajectories, the intersecting shockwaves, and the precise paper-thin lanes of empty space weaving between the volley.
’I really have to thank Morwenna for all of this.’ Silas thought, he couldn’t wait to show her how much he had grown too, who knew? Maybe this time, he would be the one to grab her ass.
Silas kept both hands buried comfortably in his trench coat pockets as he simply strolled forward through the bullet storm with the casual fluid grace of a man taking a Sunday walk through a light drizzle.
Sway!
He leaned his upper torso two inches to the left as a massive armor-piercing slug screamed past his right cheek, the sonic crack rustling the collar of his coat.
Step!
He pivoted his hips slightly to the right. Three heavy rounds passed cleanly through the four-inch gap between his arm and his ribs.
Tilt!
He tilted his head back half an inch as a stray bullet grazed the bottom lip of his silver demon mask.
SHHHH!
A bright orange spark flashed against the metal, but Silas didn’t even blink.
He continued walking, weaving effortlessly through a lethal wall of lead that would have shredded an entire infantry division to minced meat.
Up on the floating platform, the Announcer nearly choked on his own tongue.
"H-HE’S JUST WALKING THROUGH IT! HE ISN’T EVEN DODGING, HE’S JUST... WALKING!"
Goliath-9’s internal combat processor suffered a catastrophic error.
[ALERT: TARGET EVASION EXCEEDS PROBABILITY CALCULATIONS BY 99.8%... RE-ROUTING TARGETING ALGORITHMS]
The massive cyborg realized his primary weapon was completely useless against the anomaly in the trench coat as he couldn’t track the man’s micro-movements.
"ADAPTING..." Goliath-9 boomed.
The heavy hydraulic joints in his torso screamed as he violently swung the roaring rotary cannon away from Silas, aiming the full fury of the lead storm straight at the dark gas cloud where Cyber Ghost was hovering.
"SECONDARY TARGET MARKED FOR TERMINATION."
Goliath-9’s left shoulder plate snapped open with a sharp mechanical click.
THUMP!
A high-yield electromagnetic pulse canister launched from his shoulder mortar, arcing straight into the center of the translucent gas cloud.
"Oh, you piece of rusted shit—" Cyber Ghost’s panicked voice crackled through the air.
KRA-BZZZZZZZZT!
The EMP grenade detonated mid-air as a blinding dome of crackling blue electrical energy ripped through the space.
The intense electromagnetic pulse fried the delicate phase-inversion circuits lining Cyber Ghost’s tactical suit as the cloaking field collapsed with a violent shower of blue sparks.
THUD!
Cyber Ghost was forcibly ripped out of his gaseous state with his solid flesh and bone materializing heavily onto the cold dirt.
’System failure? Auxiliary power offline?’ Cyber Ghost thought with his muscles locking up from the feedback.
Before the assassin could even raise his daggers to defend himself, nine feet of solid hydraulic-driven steel closed the distance.
BOOM-BOOM-BOOM!
Goliath-9 arrived like an avalanche. The massive cyborg pulled his heavy reinforced hydraulic left fist back with the pistons hissing as they reached maximum compression.
CRACK-THUUUUMP!
Goliath-9 drove his massive metal fist directly into the center of Cyber Ghost’s chest.
"GURGH—!"
The sound of shattering bone was sickeningly loud.
Cyber Ghost’s reinforced carbon-fiber chest plate caved in entirely, snapping his sternum and splintering six of his ribs.
The power launched the assassin forty feet through the air like a ragdoll.
Cyber Ghost skipped across the mud, rolling violently until he crashed into the base of the arena wall.
"Gah!"
He lay there in the dirt, coughing up thick dark blood with his suit sparking and smoking. He was barely clinging to consciousness, paralyzed from the chest down.
Goliath-9 stomped forward, raising a massive spiked titanium boot to crush the assassin’s head into paste.
"TERMINATING SECONDARY TARGE—"
"NOT BEFORE ME, YOU BUCKET OF BOLTS!"
A feral shriek echoed from above.
SWOOSH!
Blood-Saint dropped out of the sky like a predatory bird.
He completely abandoned his shattered blood shield and landed directly onto Goliath-9’s massive shoulders with his bare feet locking around the cyborg’s neck casing.
SPLAT!
Blood-Saint didn’t use a blade.
He coated his bare hands in a thick layer of acidic pressurized blood, driving his fingers straight into the exposed brass exhaust pipes bolted to the cyborg’s mechanical spine.
HISSSSSSS!
"LET’S SEE HOW MUCH BLOOD IS INSIDE THIS TOY!" Blood-Saint roared, his back muscles bulging with unnatural power as he yanked backward.
SCREEECH... SNAP!
With terrifying mana-fueled strength, Blood-Saint literally ripped the heavy industrial exhaust assembly completely out of the cyborg’s back, tearing steel brackets and high-pressure hydraulic lines like wet cardboard.
PSSSSSSSSSH-BOOM!
Scalding hot pressurized white steam erupted violently from the ruined spinal housing.
"CRITICAL SYSTEM DAMAGE! HYDRAULIC PRESSURE DROPPING!" Goliath-9’s voice synthesizer glitched violently.
The massive machine stumbled, flailing wildly as it spun in circles to dislodge the manic priest from its back.
Across the pit, Silas stopped his leisurely stroll.
He looked at the chaotic messy brawl happening ten yards away.
’Look at this mess,’ Silas thought, shaking his head with annoyance. ’Torn metal, screaming cultists, hydraulic fluid spraying everywhere. If they keep this up, they’re going to get grease all over my clean trench coat.’
He wasn’t usually like this but he was annoyed about this, he wanted to get it over with as soon as possible.
Silas took his hands out of his pockets.
FZZT!
Silas simply engaged a tiny fraction of his Gold Core’s output, folding the space between them in an imperceptible burst of acceleration.
To the audience, he simply vanished from existence.
WHISH!
Silas reappeared directly in front of the flailing nine-foot-tall Goliath-9, planted firmly inside the cyborg’s immediate reach.
Goliath-9’s optical sensors flared frantically.
[PROXIMITY WARNING! PROXIMITY WARNING!]
Even with his back ruined, the cyborg’s combat reflexes took over. Goliath-9 brought his massive red-hot rotary chain-gun arm sweeping downward in a vicious bone-crushing arc aimed straight at Silas’s head, intending to turn the man into red mist with twenty tons of hydraulic force.
"Heh."
However Silas didn’t duck as he simply raised his open left hand.
CLANG-THUUUUM!
Silas caught the massive red-hot six-barrel assembly completely bare-handed.
SCREEEEEEECH!
The overwhelming momentum of the cyborg’s swing ground against the reinforced leather of Silas’s black glove.
Blinding orange and white sparks erupted outward in a fountain, the friction screaming loud enough to drown out the crowd.
Yet Silas didn’t move an inch. His feet remained planted in the mud like massive iron pillars driven into the bedrock of the earth.
Goliath-9’s internal servos whined in mechanical horror.
[ERROR! TARGET MASS IS IMMOVABLE! HYDRAULIC PRESSURE IS OVERLOADING!]
"WHAT... ARE... YOU?" the cyborg’s synthetic voice glitched, desperately trying to pull the heavy arm back but it wouldn’t budge.
Silas’s grip held the massive weapon with the unyielding permanence of a mountain.
Silas slowly tilted his head up, looking directly into the glowing red slit of the machine’s optical visor.
CRUNCH!
With a single effortless flex of his fingers, Silas closed his fist.
The heavy titanium-alloy barrels of the rotary cannon crumpled inward like cheap aluminum foil, completely crushing the internal firing pins and shattering the motorized housing.
"You’re very..." Silas replied coldly through his Oni mask. "Dissapointing."
Silas pulled his right fist back, coiling the muscles in his shoulder like a massive steel spring.
He focused a dense compressed pulse of internal force directly into the heel of his palm and then Silas stepped forward and drove a clean devastating Palm Strike straight into the dead center of Goliath-9’s heavily reinforced titanium chest plating.
KRA-BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!
The sound wasn’t a standard metallic thud. It was a concussive thunderclap that blasted the loose dirt away in a thirty-foot shockwave.
The physical kinetic force didn’t waste its energy denting the heavy outer armor...
Through the terrifying mastery of Silas’s mana, the shockwave bypassed the three-inch-thick steel plating, transmitting the full destructive force straight into the delicate, pressurized life-support chamber suspended deep within the machine’s core.
Inside that steel vault... the small biological human heart that kept the cyborg alive violently, instantly ruptured from the hydrostatic shock.
Splat!
Goliath-9’s entire nine-foot frame instantly went rigid.
The blinding red light in his optical visor flickered erratically for half a second.
Bzzzt... click!
The light died.
The massive multi-ton mechanical titan went completely limp as the pneumatic pressure dropped with a dying hiss, and the monolithic cyborg collapsed backward into the dirt like a falling skyscraper, shaking the entire arena with a massive thud.
Blood-Saint, who had still been clinging to the machine’s ruined spine, was thrown violently through the air by the backblast.
"FUCKKKKK!"
SPLASH!
The priest landed hard in a pool of bloody mud twenty feet away, rolling to his feet with a wet ragged gasp.
Silas didn’t even look at the dead cyborg as he slowly turned his masked head to the side.
At the edge of the cage, Cyber Ghost was desperately trying to drag himself toward the reinforced gate.
He was using his bleeding elbows, his useless, broken legs trailing behind him in the mud.
He looked back over his shoulder with his shattered visor reflecting the terrifying silhouette of the man in the trench coat.
"P-Please..." Cyber Ghost wheezed, blood bubbling past his lips. "I yield... I forfeit the match—"
Silas walked over to him with calm steps as he didn’t bother offering a cool one-liner.
Silas simply raised his right combat boot and delivered a single heavy kick squarely to the side of the assassin’s temple.
THWACK!
Cyber Ghost’s head whipped violently to the side, his neck snapping with a clean dull pop.
His eyes rolled back into his skull, and the assassin went completely limp, collapsing face-first into the mud.
He wasn’t dead, but his brain had been thoroughly rattled into a deep, concussive coma.
He was officially out of the tournament.
The massive chaotic four-way Royale had just been cleanly reduced to a simple one-on-one which was between Onii-Chan and Blood Saint.
"ONIIIIIIII-CHANNNNNNNNNNNNN!"
