He was outfitted in full black-ops tactical gear.
’Ah... not bad.’
They were heavy ceramic body armor, reinforced combat trousers with tactical mag-pouches, combat boots, and a tactical sling securing a customized matte-black assault rifle across his broad chest.
A heavy combat knife and a high-caliber sidearm rested securely in holsters at his hips.
The virtual avatar matched his real-world height, reach, and broad-shouldered build to perfection.
To his right stood Seraphina.
The crimson-haired noblewoman was outfitted in sleek, form-fitting crimson-and-charcoal tactical body armor.
The ceramic chest plate accentuated her generous curves, and her long crimson hair was pulled back into a high combat-ready ponytail.
She held a heavy semi-automatic designated marksman rifle, inspecting the optical scope and bolt assembly with sharp curiosity.
’Just don’t shoot yourself in the face...’
To his left stood Harper.
Harper was dressed in high-mobility urban commando gear, gripping a pair of suppressed tactical submachine guns.
However, the second Harper materialized, she looked down at her chest and instantly froze.
The high-mobility plate carrier she was wearing was designed for maximum agility, compressing her torso tightly to streamline movement.
Combined with the system’s standardized military armor scaling, Harper’s usually prominent generous bust looked noticeably... compressed and flat.
"Wait... what the hell?!" Harper gasped, her eyes bulging as she frantically patted down her chest with both hands. "Where did they go?! Why did the system compress my chest plate like this?! This armor is totally defective!"
Beside her, Seraphina turned her head.
The crimson noblewoman took in Harper’s compressed chest plate, and then slowly looked down at her own custom contoured ceramic armor that proudly displayed her natural aristocratic curves.
A slow smug and wickedly amused smirk spread across Seraphina’s lips.
"Oh, my," Seraphina mocked, her melodic voice dripping with pure cruelty. "It appears the neural scanner operates with ruthless indisputable objective precision... The system has revealed your true unembellished reality, Harper."
Harper’s face turned violently red with pure boiling indignation.
"IT’S A COMPRESSION RIG, YOU BLIND PRINCESS!" Harper shrieked, pointing an angry submachine gun barrel directly at Seraphina’s nose. "MY REAL ONES ARE HUGE! YOU SAW THEM IN THE DRESSING ROOM!"
"I saw an abundance of padding and desperate posture," Seraphina dismissed airily, casually checking the bolt of her rifle. "The virtual algorithm does not lie so you are truly built like an aerodynamic wooden board."
"I WILL SHOOT YOU IN THE BACK OF THE HEAD BEFORE WE CLEAR THIS LEVEL!"
"Try it, flat-chested brawler," Seraphina sneered, her red eyes gleaming with wicked arrogance. "My armor possesses superior ballistic ratings."
"Both of you, weapons hot," Silas commanded, his deep baritone cutting through the bickering like a steel blade.
SHK-SHK!
Silas racked the charging handle of his assault rifle with a crisp metallic snap. He had never used a gun before but it couldn’t be hard.
From the dark, rain-soaked alleyways surrounding the intersection, a series of guttural, wet, blood-curdling shrieks echoed through the ruined streets.
GROOOOOOAAAR!
Dozens of mutated crimson-eyed undead began pouring out of the shadows. Some were shambling corpses covered in glowing toxic pustules and others were fast, four-legged ’Stalkers’ that sprinted across the ruined brick walls with terrifying speed.
"Engage!" Silas ordered, raising his rifle.
RAT-TAT-TAT-TAT-TAT!
Silas didn’t hesitate. His instincts from his current life and his razor-sharp awareness locked into perfect synchronization.
He fired in disciplined three-round bursts.
Every single shot was a masterclass in efficiency... muzzle flashes strobed through the heavy rain as 7.62mm rounds cleanly shattered skulls, severed knees, and collapsed charging undead in mid-stride.
Silas moved with fluid momentum, advancing through the intersection while anchoring their defensive formation.
A Stalker lunged from his right blind spot with its claws extended but Silas didn’t turn.
’This is quite fun.’
He dropped to one knee, let the beast sail over his head, and fired a controlled burst directly into its exposed spine mid-air.
The creature crumpled into digital ash before it even hit the ground. He was already moving again, his rifle tracking to the next target before the first corpse finished dissolving.
Harper and Seraphina instantly dropped their bickering, their high-tier combat reflexes taking over.
Harper charged forward with a feral excited grin, her dual submachine guns roaring in a synchronized symphony of lead.
BRRRRRRRRRRRTTT!
Harper slid across the wet pavement beneath a lunging Stalker, emptying half a magazine directly into its exposed underbelly before spinning on her heel and blowing the head off a charging brute.
Her athletic reflexes were unbelievable as she wove between claw strikes, reloaded with a flick of her wrists, and controlled the close-range perimeter with relentless violence.
A mutated hound burst from a burning storefront with the jaws snapping for her throat.
WHOOSH!
Harper dropped low, let the beast sail over her, and fired two rounds straight up through its jaw, blowing its skull apart before rolling back to her feet in a single fluid motion.
Her submachine guns never stopped barking.
"Behind you, Harper!" Seraphina called out sharply.
CRACK!
A single, high-caliber round from Seraphina’s marksman rifle echoed across the street.
A mutated crawler that had been creeping along a broken streetlamp directly above Harper’s blind spot had its head violently erased from existence, collapsing into a heap of digital ash.
Harper glanced up, catching Seraphina’s eye through the rain.
"Nice shot, Princess!" Harper yelled over the gunfire.
"Naturally," Seraphina smirked, smoothly cycling her bolt and dropping two more distant runners with flawless center-mass headshots. "Do not embarrass me by dying to low-tier digital filth!"
"Not a chance!" Harper laughed, pivoting back-to-back with the crimson noblewoman.
As the horde surged, the two rival women fell into a seamless effective combat rhythm.
Whenever Harper pushed forward to clear a choke point, Seraphina’s rifle covered her flanks with ruthless accuracy.
Whenever an agile runner attempted to close the distance on Seraphina’s sniping perch, Harper intercepted it with a flying knee and a point-blank burst from her submachine guns.
Their shared hatred for the rotting monsters bonded them in a way high-society diplomacy never could.
In the center of it all, Silas commanded the field like a war god.
When a colossal twelve-foot-tall mutated ’Titan Hulk’ broke through the brick wall of a bank, roaring with enough force to shatter the rain, Silas didn’t back down at all.
"Harper, suppress the legs! Seraphina, crack the chest plate!" Silas barked.
"On it!" both girls shouted in perfect unison.
Harper sprayed the beast’s knees with armor-piercing rounds, staggering its massive weight as the hulk stumbled forward, its momentum carrying it straight into the kill zone.
Seraphina fired three consecutive heavy rifle rounds directly into the glowing core on its sternum, shattering the reinforced bone armor and exposing the pulsing red weak point beneath.
Silas sprinted forward, leaping off the hood of an overturned police cruiser.
He drew his heavy combat knife with his left hand while firing his sidearm into the beast’s open wound with his right.
The rounds punched deep into the exposed core, sending cracks spiderwebbing across its surface.
He slammed the heavy blade directly through the monster’s exposed skull, riding the colossal corpse to the ground as it disintegrated into a massive explosion of golden points.
DING-DING-DING-DING!
The heavy gunfire ceased and the rain slowly cleared as a massive glowing golden banner illuminated the virtual sky.

Silas stood up, wiping virtual rain from his brow, his rifle resting loosely in his hand.
He looked over at Harper and Seraphina.
Both women were breathing heavily, their faces flushed with adrenaline and covered in virtual gunpowder residue and rain but they looked quite cute.
Harper looked at Seraphina, and a genuine joyful grin spread across the Lightning Lord’s face as she raised her palm.
Seraphina paused for a fraction of a second, before raising her own manicured hand and slapping Harper’s palm in a sharp high-five.
"You shoot remarkably well for a tag along," Seraphina admitted with a soft breathless laugh escaping her lips.
"And you’re surprisingly useful with a rifle, Princess," Harper beamed back, wiping sweat from her forehead.
Seraphina turned her crimson eyes toward Silas, her irises practically glowing with intense fiery excitement.
The thrill of combat, the trust they had just shared in the trenches, and the joy of fighting alongside him had completely hooked her noble heart.
She stepped forward, racking the bolt of her rifle with a sharp eager click.
"Silas," Seraphina demanded, a radiant breathless smile gracing her breathtaking face. "Level Two is unlocking. Why don’t we continue?"
Harper cocked her submachine guns, grinning wildly. "Hell yeah! Let’s wipe out the whole damn city!"
Silas looked between the two energized, battle-ready women, a genuine, rare smirk finally breaking across his own face.
"Alright," Silas loaded a fresh magazine with a crisp snap. "Let’s see what Level Two has got."
And so, completely forgetting about the time, the city, and their exhausting day, the three of them remained locked inside the virtual warzone for hours on end, painting the apocalyptic digital streets in gunfire and laughter.
...
The pneumatic seals along the perimeter of the three sensory pods hissed in synchronized release, venting thick plumes of chilled vaporized coolant into the circular observation chamber of the fourth floor.
The heavy pressurized glass canopies slowly rose on their hydraulic struts with a steady drone.
"Fuu..."
Silas pushed himself up from the contoured gel cushions, rolling his neck until a satisfying series of sharp pops echoed in the enclosed space.
His dark hair was slightly damp with sweat, his breathing deep and even, and his eyes... still reflecting the dying golden embers of full-dive combat adrenaline slowly readjusted to the ambient violet lighting of the arcade pavilion.
To his left and right, Harper and Seraphina stepped down onto the rubberized landing platform.
The moment their boots touched the floor, the heavy silence of the chamber was violently shattered by a collective gasp from a gathered crowd.
Silas blinked, glancing past the safety railings.
What had started hours earlier as an empty, secluded VIP corner was now completely packed with dozens of stunned onlookers.
Arcade attendants in silver vests, academy students holding glowing beverage cups, and off-duty mercenaries in jackets were all staring at the three pods with wide and utterly flabbergasted expressions.
Hovering directly above the central platform was the massive, three-dimensional public holographic scoreboard of Project: Dead Horizon.

The lead VR technician, a middle-aged man with thick magnifying spectacles and a rumpled white lab coat, stood at the base of the console.
His trembling hands clutched a digital data pad, his eyes darting between the impossible numbers on the screen and the three young Lords standing before him.
"You... you cleared Level Twenty," the technician stammered, his voice carrying an almost reverent shock over the murmuring crowd. "In four consecutive hours without a single sensory disconnect... The Purgatory Crucible hasn’t been breached since the military testing teams ran trials three years ago. Congratulations, esteemed Lords. Your names have been permanently etched into the Grand Nexus Hall of Immortals."
A scattering of enthusiastic applause and awed whistles erupted from the onlookers around the perimeter.
Harper, however, paid the historic achievement absolutely zero attention.
The moment her boots hit the platform, the energetic Lightning Lord looked down at her chest.
She reached up with both hands, brazenly grabbing and cupping her own generous silk-clad breasts, giving them a firm, vigorous squeeze right in front of the fifty staring spectators.
"Oh, thank the gods," Harper sighed loudly with immense dramatic relief, rolling her shoulders as she checked her real-world cleavage in the reflection of the glass pod. "They’re still here. Full, firm, and completely intact..."
Several young academy students in the front row nearly choked on their drinks, their faces turning bright red, while an older mercenary let out an appreciative barking laugh.
Harper spun on her heel, marching straight up to the trembling VR technician with her hands planted aggressively on her hips.
"Hey! Glasses!" Harper demanded, pointing an accusatory index finger at the pod’s biometric scanner array. "Your neural scaling algorithm has a massive defect! When I materialized inside Level One, your system compressed my chest plate until I looked like a flat-chested recruit! It caused severe psychological trauma to my squad dynamic, and I was ruthlessly slandered by this red-haired princess over here for three entire stages!"
Seraphina gracefully stepped down from her pod, her phoenix-silk gown rustling softly as she smoothed the fabric over her hourglass curves.
She let out a haughty delicate sniff, raising her chin with noble disdain.
"The system merely calibrated you for efficiency, Harper," Seraphina mocked smoothly, a smug, elegant smirk playing on her lips. "A machine recognizes where excess dead weight must be pruned for survival."
"It wasn’t dead weight, it was a tactical war crime!" Harper yelled back, turning right back to the sweating technician. "Update your firmware before I file a formal consumer grievance with the Department of Awakened Recreation!"
"I—I shall personally recalibrate the torso compression algorithms for the high-mobility Vanguard profiles immediately, Lady Whitmore!" the technician promised frantically, bowing so low his nose nearly struck his clipboard. "Thank you deeply for your invaluable operational feedback!"
"Good," Harper huffed, tossing her purple hair over her shoulder.
