Chapter 409: Morwenna’s Past [Bonus Chapter]

It was well past midnight when the Zenith IVR returned to the quiet driveway of the Silverleaf villa.

The outing had been a triumph.

They had eaten glowing starlight parfaits on the high terrace, raced holographic hover-cars until Lia’s sides ached from laughing, and watched the sprawling glittering lights of Valoria City stretch out into the horizon beneath the twin moons.

Silas walked softly down the second-floor hallway, carrying an utterly exhausted fast-asleep Lia in his arms.

He entered her bedroom, gently laying her down upon the plush mattress beneath the soft duvet.

Lia stirred faintly, her eyes fluttering open just a sliver as she felt the cool pillow against her cheek.

"Big Bro..." Lia mumbled sleepily, reaching her small hand out from beneath the blanket to lightly grasp his wrist. "Thank you for today... it was the best day ever..."

Silas leaned down, his rugged expression softening into pure unreserved tenderness as he pressed a gentle, protective kiss against her forehead.

"You’re welcome..." Silas whispered warmly. "Goodnight, Lia."

"Love you very much, Big Bro..." Lia murmured, her grip on his wrist loosening as she drifted instantly back into a deep sleep.

Silas watched her breathe for a quiet moment, then adjusted the blankets around her shoulders, tapped the nightlight button, and quietly exited the room, pulling the door shut with barely a click.

He walked down the hall and entered the master suite.

’Haah... what a night... It’s good to have money.’

Silas rolled his shoulders, letting out a long invigorating stretch as he looked around the room.

During the quiet morning hours while Lia was at school, Silas had taken the time to thoroughly organize his belongings.

He opened the tall wardrobe, looking at the neatly hung rows of premium tailored clothing, combat tunics, and fine coats that Seraphina and Harper had bought for him during their excursions to the most expensive mall in the city.

Everything in his life on Earth was stable, prosperous, and secure.

Now, it was time to tend to the domain that made it all possible.

Silas walked over to the center of the spacious bedroom.

With a single focused thought, he summoned his internal Lord Interface as a translucent, deep-blue holographic panel materialized in the air before his eyes, pulsing with crisp blue.

[Descend]

Silas raised his hand, his index finger pressing firmly against the glowing icon.

HUMMMMM... FLASH!

Blackness enveloped his vision as the familiar weightless sensation of dimensional teleportation pulled at his consciousness, tearing through the spatial boundary separating Earth from the boundless primordial expanse of the Sovereign Realm.

SHING!

The darkness dissolved in an instant, replaced by the warm amber-lit stone architecture of his private Lord Manor at the heart of the Blessed Land.

Silas materialized in the center of his spacious master quarters, the rich, invigorating aroma of powerful spiritual mana and blooming World-Tree blossoms immediately flooding his lungs.

The moment his boots touched the polished stone floor, Silas blinked, greeted by a completely unexpected and striking sight.

Morwenna was there.

The Pirate Queen was sprawled across his bed like she owned the place because in her mind, she probably did.

Her wild dark hair was fanned out across his pillows with a tattered leather coat tossed carelessly over the footboard.

She was wearing nothing but a loose linen undershirt and her worn leather trousers, one of her heavy boots already kicked off onto the floor.

A half-empty bottle of something strong rested on the nightstand beside her.

She had clearly been waiting for him.

"Took you long enough, Captain," Morwenna drawled, propping herself up on her elbows with a sharp grin that showed her canines. She looked him up and down, her stormy gray eyes gleaming with that familiar glint. "I was starting to think you’d gotten lost in that soft human world of yours. Did you forget how to find your way back to the realm?"

Silas let out a warm laugh, shaking his head as he crossed the room. "Miss me that much, Morwenna?"

She snorted, but the way her eyes softened betrayed her.

"Someone has to keep an eye on you. The weed’s been pacing the Keep all day, Talira’s been burning holes in the training dummies with her dragon fire, and Thora’s been asking when you’re going to upgrade her forge again... You cause chaos just by being gone, Captain."

Silas sat down on the edge of the bed, and Morwenna immediately shifted, swinging her legs over his lap like it was the most natural thing in the world.

She rested her head against his shoulder, letting out a long contented sigh that completely contradicted her earlier gruffness.

"Welcome back," she murmured, her voice dropping its usual bite.

Silas wrapped his arm around her waist, pulling her closer. "Good to be back."

They sat like that for a moment as the comfortable silence settled between them like a well-worn blanket.

The crackling hearth, the distant howl of the Umbral Basin wind, the soft warmth of her body pressed against his side... it was a reminder of why he kept fighting.

Silas took a breath, his expression shifting from domestic warmth into focused curiosity.

He looked down at Morwenna, his voice dropping into a serious inquiring tone.

"Before we start organizing the new supplies and summoning preparations..." Silas began, his blue eyes narrowing slightly, "Morwenna, do you know what The Leviathan’s Wake is?"

For some strange reason...

The entire room became completely silent.

Morwenna’s body went rigid against him.

Her stormy gray eyes, which had been soft and relaxed just a moment ago, sharpened until they became cold and her fingers tightened against his shirt.

"Where did you hear that name, Captain?" Morwenna asked, her voice dropping to a low tone that Silas had never heard from her before.

The tension in the Lord’s master quarters was so dense it felt as though the atmospheric pressure had suddenly plunged to the bottom of the deep ocean.

Morwenna’s fingers remained buried tightly in the fabric of Silas’s shirt.

Her stormy gray eyes... usually so full of feral swagger, sharp mockery, and effortless bravado had changed completely.

They were hollow and swimming with a chilling fathomless cold that mirrored the abyssal depths she had once conquered.

Silas did not flinch, nor did he pull back. He simply held her close, keeping his arm securely around her waist to anchor her against him.

"I was at an auction in the human world yesterday," Silas explained gently, his voice level and steady as he broke the heavy silence. "In the Obsidian Sanhedrin. A lot of rare items were brought up from various sectors and frontlines. Among them, a name was spoken during one of the premier bidding rounds. They said it was the name of a legendary flagship... a pirate vessel that had crashed and vanished into the depths centuries ago or something like that. The Leviathan’s Wake."

Morwenna’s breath hitched.

She looked down, her wild dark hair spilling forward to conceal her face in shadows.

Her shoulders shook with a microscopic tremor, her jaw setting so hard that the muscles along her neck coiled like steel wires.

Her stormy eyes darkened further, swirling with the violent ghosts of five hundred years of buried devastation.

Silas reached out with his free hand, gently covering her trembling knuckles where they gripped his shirt.

"You can trust me, Morwenna," Silas whispered softly, leaning down slightly so his breath brushed against her temple. "You know you can."

A shudder ran through her entire body. The Pirate Queen swallowed hard, a dry ragged breath scraping up her throat before she finally forced herself to speak.

"I..." Her voice cracked, uncharacteristically frail, before she steadied it with a bitter self-mocking scoff. "It... it was my ship, Captain."

Silas’s blue eyes narrowed in genuine surprise. He kept his silence, allowing her the space to let the words bleed out at her own pace.

"Before the void took it... before it was shattered to kindling and dragged to the bottom of the sea, the Leviathan’s Wake wasn’t just a vessel," Morwenna muttered, staring blankly at the dark wood of the bedstead. "It was our home. It was where I gathered my family. A whole crew of misfits, orphans, bastards, and strays... people the upper realms threw away like garbage. People who had no lives, no domains, and no hope until I pulled them out of the mud and gave them the deck of a ship."

She swallowed again with her chest heaving against his ribs.

"We ruled the Abyssal Seas for centuries," she whispered, her fingers digging deeper into his chest. "We took whatever we wanted from the divine fleets, danced on the edges of forbidden rifts, and answered to no god or emperor. We were free. But freedom is a sin in the eyes of the divine hierarchy. The corporate deities... the higher pantheons... they couldn’t stand a mortal-born crew laughing in their faces."

A dark agonizing sorrow flickered across her face as memories she had spent half a millennium trying to drown surged back to the surface.

She remembered how the betrayal had actually happened. Their impenetrable defensive arrays had been bypassed from the inside and the coordinates of their hidden anchorage of the barrier had been hit by... Lyra.

’Lyra...’

Lyra had been just a sixteen-year-old kid when the inquisitors got their claws into her.

The girl had been terrified, weeping, manipulated by promises that they would spare her little brother if she only killed them by dropping the barriers.

Lyra had been an idiot child who thought she was saving family, only to end up leading every single soul on board into a cosmic meat grinder.

The entire crew had been butchered. The deck had run red before the divine fleets dragged the broken wreckage down into the sunless abyss to drown forever.

Morwenna didn’t voice the girl’s name.

Even after five hundred years of burning rage, what was the point of blaming a terrified child manipulated by gods? The pain was hers to carry...

She tugged weakly on Silas’s sleeve, it was a desperate silent plea for grounding.

’I don’t want to talk about them.’

The memories she shared with her crew were amazing and she would do so dozen times over.

...But they were painful, very painful and even though it was selfish, Morwenna wanted to think about her new family.

Silas understood instantly.

He didn’t press her for details, nor did he lecture her about past mistakes. He firmly squeezed her hand, pulling her body completely flush against his chest, wrapping his arms around her back, and gently patting the back of her dark head.

"There, there..." Silas murmured in a deeply affectionate rhythm, resting his chin lightly atop her hair. "I’ve got you. It’s over now."

Morwenna was an SSS-Rank Mythic Dread Queen... a terrifying entity capable of ripping fleets of ships enhanced by even gods apart with tidal fury.

She was nobody’s fragile princess, and she certainly wasn’t a baby yet, surrounded by the warm, sovereign aura radiating from his Gold Core, feeling the genuine protectiveness bleeding through his touch, the rigid armor around her heart completely crumbled.

Not like it was there whenever Silas touched her.

She let out a shaky, muffled sigh into the crook of his neck.

With a subtle, needy squirm, she pulled herself even higher onto his lap, curling her legs securely around his waist and resting her forehead against his clavicle.

She allowed herself to be held, to be coddled, to be babied by the only man in two universes who held her loyalty.

If it was her Captain doing the coddling, then she didn’t give a damn about her pride.

’It feels good too...’

For several minutes, the room remained entirely peaceful, save for the rhythmic rise and fall of their chests and the comforting crackle of the hearth fire.

Eventually, Morwenna stirred. She tilted her head back, her dark and slightly messy hair swaying across her shoulders as she looked up into his face.

Her stormy gray eyes were still slightly rimmed with red, but the cold had vanished, replaced by a curious gaze.

"So..." she murmured, clearing her throat to regain a shred of her typical pirate rasp. "How in the hells do you know about my ship, Captain? You said an auction?"

Silas smiled warmly, brushing a stray dark lock from her cheek.

"At the Obsidian Sanhedrin," Silas explained, his voice rich with quiet satisfaction. "The auctioneers brought out a relic that had supposedly washed ashore from a deep rift in the outer sectors. They claimed it was recovered from the very wreckage of the Leviathan’s Wake."

Morwenna’s brows furrowed in pure bewilderment.

"Recovered from the wreck?" she scoffed softly, shaking her head. "Captain, I spent five centuries trapped at the bottom of the abyssal trenches, drowning in divine chains before you pulled me through that portal. Anything made of mortal steel or standard enchantments would have been crushed to dust under that water pressure hundreds of years ago. What could have possibly survived down there?"

Silas didn’t answer with words.

Instead, he focused his intent, calling upon his dimensional storage.

A brilliant blue flash of spatial light ignited across the palm of his right hand. The ambient air in the master quarters suddenly grew rich with the distinct scent of an oncoming oceanic tempest.

With a soft hum of displacement, a massive magnificent weapon materialized in his grasp.

"Oof—" Silas let out a low grunt as the weight of the blade dragged his arm downward, the pommel hitting the stone floor with a heavy thud. "Damn... it’s got quite a bit of weight to it."
