Kyle had given Ethan the command to return to his territory and take control of matters within his clan.

With his mother dead, someone needed to sit on the throne and hold the Lockhart family together. Otherwise, there would be vultures waiting to descend upon the clan, tearing apart its assets and devouring its fortune before anyone could stop them.

It’s not with just this clan but any wealthy out there. And if not them, the PSC would have absorbed all the resources in the name of contribution towards humanity.

Kyle had no particular sympathy for the Lockhart family’s wealth or its name. However, if Ethan managed to handle the situation properly, he could become a valuable source of support for Kyle and the others in the long run.

For the time being, Ethan’s task was relatively simple. He was arranging all the personnel serving the clan who were also Nightmares.

Every clan has their own forces and other than their fortune, what determines how strong a clan was how large their forces were.

After graduating from the academy, many families awaken students in their clans. Those who don’t want to serve the government and want to enjoy more freedom could join clans instead of PSC.

"How many?" Kyle asked as he walked a few steps ahead of Ethan.

"Four hundred and thirteen, my Lord. They will be here by tomorrow."

Kyle nodded thoughtfully. "Hmm."

He settled into the chair inside the office and lowered his gaze to the list in his hands, studying the names written across it.

The personnel had been divided according to their ranks, and among the four hundred and thirteen, only two were of Special Grade.

There were around fifty first-grade warriors which was a good thing.

About the lack of special-grade...well, what else could be expected from a small clan like this one?

The Lockhart family were even ranked in the lower tier of the branch families too. Even so, they could still prove useful.

Kyle glanced at the golden-haired boy before asking, "Did anyone suspect that you were acting differently? And has anyone from the PSC contacted you?"

Ethan gave his report. "The servants have been whispering about my silence, mostly. However, they can easily attribute it to my reaction to my mother’s death. As for the PSC, only one cadet, Clara, has called me. Ten times since this morning. I texted her and told her I needed some time."

Kyle leaned back in his seat. "Respond to Clara. Use your memories and deal with her in whatever way you deem appropriate."

Ethan bowed faintly. "As you command."

Kyle then shifted the subject. "How have you considered expanding the clan’s wealth and influence?"

Ethan responded almost mechanically, as though he had already gone over every possible answer in his mind. "The Lockhart family has primarily dealt in drugs and medicine, and the business has been performing well. Now that the rifts are appearing with increasing frequency, I believe the demand for medical supplies will rise as well."

Kyle nodded. "Indeed. So you intend to expand the business into medical supplies?"

Ethan nodded. "The Lockhart family has built a solid reputation in the medical field over the past twenty years under my mother’s reign. I can make use of that trust to introduce basic medical supplies and gradually expand throughout northern Guhang for the time being."

Kyle hummed in agreement. Northern Guhang was densely populated, with more hospitals and private clinics than one could reasonably count, making it an ideal place to begin.

After a brief pause, Kyle asked, "Why did your mother never think of it? I reckon she was a strong woman with a deep sense of duty toward her clan."

Ethan kept his gaze lowered, taking a moment to formulate his answer this time. "I don’t have many memories of her, but from what little I can recall, she was an impatient woman. She wanted to see the clan climb the ladder as quickly as possible."

Kyle’s brows rose. "And that is?"

"Marriage," Ethan replied almost instantly.

Kyle had expected as much. From Ethan’s memories, he had already realized that Ethan’s infatuation with Amanda had not arisen entirely of his own accord. Much of it stemmed from the pressure his mother had placed upon him. She had wanted to forge a connection with the Maylith clan, and Ethan had been the means through which she intended to accomplish it.

But now, she was gone.

"Alright. Once your men arrive, station them according to these coordinates."

Kyle extended a parchment toward Ethan, who accepted it with both hands.

"Go on. Check it," Kyle urged.

Ethan unfolded the parchment and immediately spotted a list of locations. They were the places where rifts were expected to open within the next forty-eight hours.

His expression changed slightly as he studied the list. After a moment of hesitation, Ethan asked, "Please excuse my rudeness, my Lord, but won’t this attract the attention of the PSC? So many consecutive raids at once, and all of them clearly premeditated."

Kyle thought for a moment. He had provided ten coordinates, most of them corresponding to First-Grade rifts, with one being Special-Grade.

However, Ethan was right. Even with Veronica’s support, covering so many rifts at once, particularly within Fortis, would be exceedingly difficult. Almost impossible, in fact.

"Then choose any four of them," Kyle said. "Make sure the Special-Grade is among them."

Ethan nodded. "I will instruct them to conceal their identities and divide the personnel into sufficiently large teams. That way, they can deal with the rifts before the PSC arrives."

Kyle nodded in agreement. "Once you extract their bodies, bring them here."

Ethan bowed his head. "Understood, Master."

Just then, Ethan received a call before he told Kyle. "The bath is ready, my Lord."

Kyle rose from the chair and followed Ethan out of the office.

Time for a relaxing bath and a leisurely chat with his ’online friends’.
