Stripping For My Devil Ex Husband

Chapter 64: The Devil’s Politics

Inside the quiet, leather-lined interior of the Maybach as it glided down the interstate, the soft hum of the high-end engine was the only sound filling the cabin.

Anastasia smoothed the fabric of her ivory A-line dress, her fingers fidgeting slightly with the delicate lace cuff covering her healing wrist.

Damian noticed her subtle restlessness immediately. Without a word, his large, calloused hand reached across the leather seat, gently capturing her wrist and turning her palm upward.

He unbuttoned her lace cuff with practiced ease, inspecting the soft pink skin where her bruises were slowly fading.

"It doesn’t hurt anymore," Ana murmured softly, looking at his dark profile. "You don’t need to inspect it constantly."

"I will inspect whatever I choose, Anastasia," Damian replied, his baritone steady and low as he buttoned her cuff back up, his thumb brushing over her pulse point with a lingering, possessive warmth.

He looked up, his obsidian eyes scanning her elegant silhouette... the wide-brimmed hat framing her delicate features, her pristine makeup, and her serene expression.

"You still haven’t told me where we’re going, Damian," she added.

"We are heading to the Royal Oaks Equestrian Club," Damian explained. "We are meeting Richard Abernathy and his wife, Evelyn. Richard holds the second-largest voting block on Sterling Global’s board. He has remained neutral regarding Harrison Stark’s position, but I intend to secure his full vote today."

Ana listened attentively, her dark eyes searching his. "And my role?"

"Everyone in high society knows we are reconciling," Damian said, leaning slightly closer. His broad hand slid up to wrap firmly around her waist.

"Richard values tradition and family stability above all else. Showing up with my wife... poised, composed, and united by my side... neutralizes any rumors Harrison has been spreading about my personal life affecting my judgment. All you need to do is play the loving partner, enjoy the afternoon with Evelyn, and leave the board politics to me."

He leaned down, his lips brushing the shell of her ear, his breath warm against her skin. "And remember... while we are playing a role for the cameras today, do not forget who you go home to tonight."

Ana’s breath hitched, her heart thumping softly against her ribs. "Understood, Damian," she whispered.

An hour later, under the bright, golden sun of the Royal Oaks grounds, white marquees fluttered softly against the breeze as clinking champagne flutes and soft classical music filled the air. The estate was crowded with diplomats, hedge fund titans, and old-money aristocrats.

After warm introductions at the entrance, Evelyn Abernathy... a cultured, elegant woman in her fifties with an effortless poise... smiled warmly at Ana.

"Come, my dear. Leave the men to their tedious corporate discussions. The private stables are holding an exclusive viewing of the thoroughbreds before the match, and I simply must show you the new yearling."

Ana glanced at Damian. He gave her a subtle, reassuring nod. "Go enjoy yourself, darling," he murmured, his touch lingering against her waist before letting her go.

As Evelyn led Ana down the manicured garden walkways toward the stables, the older woman turned her head with a gentle, knowing smile. "It is truly wonderful to see you and Damian together again, Anastasia. The media creates such ghastly rumors."

"Thank you, Evelyn," Ana replied politely. "We’ve had our challenges, but we are moving forward."

"Good," Evelyn said softly, her voice dropping into a more serious, maternal tone as they reached the stable fences. "Because in our world, my dear, a man like Damian needs a strong, grounded partner. Women like Vivian Stark... they smell blood in the water. Vivian has been whispering in board members’ ears for months, trying to create fractures. Do not give her an inch."

Ana’s pulse spiking slightly. "I have no intention of giving her anything, Evelyn."

Meanwhile, on the elevated, glass-walled VIP terrace overlooking the sprawling polo field, Damian and Richard Abernathy stood side by side at the private mahogany bar.

Richard, a formidable billionaire who had terrorized Wall Street for over four decades, poured two fingers of aged scotch, passing a glass toward Damian.

"Harrison Stark called me yesterday, Damian," Richard said bluntly, swirling his drink as he leaned against the brass railing. "He claims you’re acting out of personal vendettas. He insists that stripping him of his seat over internal squabbles will destabilize investor confidence right before the quarterly earnings report."

Damian didn’t take a sip. He stood tall, his broad shoulders squared, his posture radiating a calm, terrifying authority that immediately shifted the balance of power on the terrace.

"Harrison is selling you nostalgia, Richard," Damian purred low, his voice dropping into a cold, razor-sharp register. "He speaks of stability because his own assets are bleeding. He used corporate funds to cover offshore liabilities, and his daughter is currently orchestrating reckless, criminal liabilities that threaten this firm’s standing."

Richard’s eyes narrowed, searching Damian’s unreadable face. "Allegations are one thing, Damian. Profitability is another. Harrison built half of our European distribution network."

"And he is currently using it as leverage to save his sinking ship," Damian countered smoothly, stepping closer until his tall frame completely shadowed the older man. "In business, Richard, a man who bets on sentimentality over trajectory loses his capital. Harrison is a bad choice... a decaying asset. Aligning with him means tethering your voting block to an anchor taking on water."

Damian set his untouched glass on the ledge, looking down at the older tycoon with an absolute, calculating intensity.

"I am giving you the opportunity to bet on the right choice before the board summit. Support my motion to remove him, and your equity doubles in the new restructuring. Defend him, and you go down with his ledger."

Richard stared at Damian, the sheer weight of Damian’s psychological dominance settling over him. For the first time in years, the veteran investor felt genuinely outmaneuvered.

Fifty yards away, standing near the garden perimeter fence with Evelyn, Ana looked up toward the glass terrace.

She couldn’t hear a word being spoken, but even from a distance, the sight was breathtaking and terrifying. Around them, socialites were laughing and taking photos, but around Damian and Richard, the air looked like a high-stakes psychological war zone.

Damian didn’t raise a hand or lose his composure for a single second. Yet, the icy, calculating authority exuding from his frame made it abundantly clear... He was systematically dismantling a Wall Street titan without firing a single shot.

Something serious is happening, Ana thought, a quiet shudder running down her spine. He isn’t just managing a company... he’s fighting a war. But for what?
