His recent experiences had made one thing clear.
It was just as he’d expected.
The more powerful the creature he devoured, the more essence it provided.
If he wanted to accumulate enough essence to quickly coalesce Divinity, he couldn’t just stay in one place.
’Oh well. Isn’t this natural hunting ground practically made for me?’
A peculiar glint appeared in Hu Qi’s eyes.
His business concluded, Hu Qi turned and returned to his previous cave.
Looking at the slightly messy scene, he simply instructed the two snakes to stay put and cultivate peacefully.
Although the cave was somewhat damaged because of him, it fortunately didn’t affect the concentration of Spiritual Energy at this Spirit Vein Node.
However, with Hu Qi’s current standards, this level of Spiritual Energy concentration was no longer worth his notice.
For Hu Qi, the current priority was to harvest Modification Points and accumulate essence, all while searching for a Spirit Vein Node with richer Spiritual Energy.
And of course, he wasn’t about to bring this dead weight with him.
Soon.
After Hu Qi had traveled some distance from the cave, a strange light twisted around his body, and his massive, serpentine form vanished in an instant.
A moment later, he had transformed into the very Fat Catfish Spirit he had just devoured.
Hu Qi picked a direction.
With a swish of his fish tail, he swam forward. The water rippled behind him, and soon his figure disappeared.
...
At the bottom of the lake, amidst jagged rocks, a giant Black Clam lay silently.
All was quiet and still, save for the occasional undercurrent that gently stirred the silt at the bottom.
Suddenly, a slight stir broke the silence.
The Black Clam slowly opened a crack, and a soft white light escaped from within.
Then, the Black Clam opened completely, revealing a graceful woman in a black veil seated inside.
She lifted her gaze slightly, her eyes falling on the portly Catfish Spirit swimming toward her.
She asked softly.
"How may I be of service to the Demon King?"
Her voice was gentle, yet clearly audible in the silent depths.
"The Demon King wishes to take his thirty-third concubine..."
The Catfish Spirit spoke, its voice hoarse and carrying a strange cadence.
As it spoke, its portly body slowly edged a little closer.
The woman in the black veil nodded slightly, her expression calm.
"I see. Thank you for informing me. I will attend the Demon King’s celebration as requested."
At that moment, however, she seemed to sense something was amiss, and her elegant brows furrowed slightly.
"Why are you getting so close to me?"
But the Catfish Spirit did not answer.
It abruptly opened its cavernous mouth, revealing sharp fangs, and lunged at the veiled woman like a black bolt of lightning.
"Hmph? How audacious! You’re courting death!"
The veiled woman’s brows shot up in anger, and a flash of fury crossed her eyes.
But, considering its identity, she ultimately held back from dealing a lethal blow.
She simply waved her hand, and an oval, multicolored bubble of light instantly materialized, enveloping the charging Fat Catfish Spirit.
The bubble glowed with iridescent light, appearing especially dazzling in the dark water.
But a second later.
A POP! echoed out—a sound as crisp as a bursting bubble, yet utterly horrifying.
That seemingly indestructible, multicolored bubble of light shattered in an instant, dissolving into countless fragments that vanished into the water.
"How is that possible?"
The veiled woman’s face paled, her eyes filled with terror and disbelief.
She had no time to think. The Black Clam’s shell snapped shut, sealing her tightly inside for protection.
BANG!
CRACK!
With a loud crash, the hard shell of the Black Clam cracked in an instant, like a fragile eggshell.
"Who... Who in the world are you?"
Inside the Black Clam, the veiled woman’s form began to flicker violently.
Like a bad TV signal, her image flickered in and out of existence, threatening to disappear at any moment.
However, her attacker remained silent, only continuing to ram against the shell.
—CRUNCH CRUNCH CRUNCH!
As the Black Clam shattered completely, the woman let out a piercing shriek before her figure vanished entirely.
In the spot where she had been, only a smooth, black pearl remained, emitting a faint, dark glow.
A moment later, a black shadow flashed past.
The shattered pieces of the Black Clam, along with the pearl, were all swallowed by a gaping maw.
From that spot, a crisp chewing sound echoed through the silent depths, enough to send a chill down one’s spine.
