Stronger with Crimson Modifier

Chapter 568 - 404: The Road Ahead (Part 1)

「Time rewinds to an earlier moment.」

At the very moment Hu Qi broke through to become a True God.

In the deepest part of the Sea of Sumeru.

An inexplicable tremor spread through the entire Spirit Realm like a ripple.

This tremor was extremely subtle.

Even beings who had reached the peak of the Apostle Level could not perceive it.

Only experts at the True God Level could sense this slight disturbance.

As for this phenomenon, the True Gods present were only mildly surprised.

In their infinite lifespans, this was not the first time such an event had occurred.

This phenomenon, in a way, could be seen as the Spirit Realm holding a celebratory rite for the birth of a new god.

This situation clearly meant that a new True God had just ascended.

True Gods consolidate Divinity, allowing them to endure even if the world itself were to be destroyed.

Beings who reached this level were true powerhouses, no matter which layer of the Sea of Sumeru they resided in.

The birth of every True God would leave its own unique imprint and aura within the Sea of Sumeru.

This was no different.

The only difference was that the stronger and more talented the individual ascending to True God, the more Spiritual Echoes the Sea of Sumeru would send back in response.

...

In a world of pallid white.

Two figures stood in a silent confrontation, as if time itself had frozen.

On the left was an old man in a gray suit, holding a cane topped with a carved skull. His black top hat was pulled low, obscuring most of his face and leaving it in shadow.

On the right was a figure wreathed in dazzling white light. Twelve feathered wings unfurled behind her, each one seemingly woven from pure radiance.

She stood there like an incarnation of light, sacred and inviolable.

If Hu Qi were here, he would have surely recognized her as the White King who had once hunted him.

In the distance, beyond the two of them, stood a colossal Crystal Balance, emitting a faint glow.

"Oh? Has another True God ascended?"

The gentlemanly old man seemed to sense something and looked up slightly.

His movement revealed a sinister face with deep-set eyes, a high-bridged nose, and pallid skin.

The voice that came from his mouth was hoarse and strange, like the whisper of some monster.

If an ordinary person were to hear it, their spirit would likely shatter in an instant, driving them to madness.

His gaze shifted to the White King, and the corners of his mouth lifted into a meaningful smile.

"Rather than continue this useless standoff, why don’t we make a wager? Let’s bet on the number of Spiritual Echoes this newly ascended True God will produce.

Whoever guesses closest gets to keep this thing here."

The White King did not answer immediately, seeming to consider the offer.

"Fine."

After a moment, the White King finally spoke, her voice cool and pleasant.

"Excellent. I’ll guess five times."

The old man gave a low chuckle, as if he had already anticipated her answer.

The moment she agreed, he immediately spoke his number first.

Five times. This was the median value.

Normally, the Spiritual Echoes following a True God’s ascension hovered around this number.

The fluctuations were never too great.

One could say this number was undoubtedly the safest bet.

"Seven times."

The White King paid no mind to his little trick, stating her own guess.

As her voice fell, two balls of light—one white, one gray—appeared on the Crystal Balance. The scales trembled slightly before settling into equilibrium.

Immediately after, the Balance erupted in a dazzling light. An invisible Power of Rules enveloped the area, signifying that the wager was set.

Not even beings like them could defy it.

BOOM—

The second Spiritual Echo arrived, shattering the brief silence.

Soon, the fifth echo arrived.

After the fifth echo ended, no new tremor followed.

"It seems I’ve won."

The old man smiled faintly, but the expression quickly froze on his face.

—BOOM!

The sixth Spiritual Echo sounded.

It was followed by the seventh, and then the eighth.

The frequency of the echoes was much faster than before. Often, the next one would ring out the moment the previous one ended.

And then, they continued until the tenth Spiritual Echo arrived, at which point they finally stopped.

For a moment, it wasn’t just the two of them. Throughout the Sea of Sumeru, every being at the True God Level fell into a deathly silence.
