Chapter 596 - 414: Slaughter (1)

CLICK!

The door creaked open with a soft sound.

Zhao Ying stood in the doorway, drenched from head to toe. Rainwater dripped from the ends of her hair onto the floor.

She took off her raincoat and casually hung it on the hook behind the door.

The rain outside was torrential, and it had even split the seams of her clothes at the shoulders and cuffs.

Even with the raincoat, her clothes were still soaked in places.

But with her current physique, she didn’t feel the slightest bit of cold.

"Hurry, get in there! Attack its right flank! Shit!"

Zhao Ying turned her head, her gaze piercing through the shadows of the hallway toward the source of the sound.

It was Zhao Yao’s room. The door wasn’t completely shut, and a sliver of light shone through the crack.

Zhao Yao’s voice drifted out intermittently.

Peeking through the crack, she saw that Zhao Yao’s room was completely different from hers—it was very tidy.

A few game posters were taped to the walls, and a brand-new computer sat on his desk, its screen flashing with gameplay.

Zhao Yao sat in his chair with his back to the door, wearing a holographic VR headset and flailing his hands.

Zhao Ying recognized the game he was playing: an extremely popular first-person Mecha combat simulator.

Seemingly hearing the noise outside, Zhao Yao stopped what he was doing and took off his headset.

A moment later, the door swung open, and Zhao Yao walked out of his room in loose-fitting pajamas.

"You’re back!"

Zhao Yao said, his gaze sweeping over Zhao Ying’s empty hands before glancing at the doorway, his brow furrowing slightly.

"You were out for so long. Where are the groceries?"

Zhao Ying was bending over to take off her shoes. Her movements paused when she heard him.

She straightened up, her tone calm.

"Someone robbed me of the grocery money. Just find something to eat and make do."

With that, she turned to go back to her room to change and take a hot shower to wash off the rain.

However, she had barely taken two steps before Zhao Yao blocked her path.

"Are you messing with me? How could you get robbed just buying groceries?"

Zhao Yao’s expression turned ugly, his voice laced with clear displeasure.

"Don’t tell me you pocketed the money Dad gave you. Believe it or not, I’ll tell Dad tonight..."

He didn’t get to finish his sentence. His voice came to an abrupt halt.

Zhao Ying’s hand had suddenly clamped around his neck, the force so great that he instantly lost his balance.

Zhao Yao felt his throat tighten as his feet left the ground. Zhao Ying had lifted his entire body into the air with just one hand.

His face flushed crimson. He instinctively grabbed her wrist with both hands, trying to break free, only to find he couldn’t budge her arm at all.

"Shut up!"

Zhao Ying’s voice was cold, perhaps carrying a chill from having just come in from outside.

She moved closer to Zhao Yao, her pupils dilated.

Under the dim light, they looked exceptionally dark, as if they were swallowing all light.

"If you want to eat, don’t you have hands of your own? I’ve been putting up with you for a long time, ever since we were kids.

Keep making noise, and see if I don’t throw you off the balcony."

Zhao Yao’s breathing became ragged, his heart pounding like a drum.

He looked into Zhao Ying’s pitch-black eyes, and an involuntary fear began to grow in his heart.

Those eyes didn’t seem human. They were like those of a ferocious beast, coldly staring down its prey.

The next second, Zhao Ying let go.

Zhao Yao fell heavily to the floor, clutching his neck and coughing violently, his face as pale as a sheet.

He looked up at Zhao Ying, his eyes filled with shock and confusion.

But Zhao Ying had already turned and was walking toward her room.

"You... what the hell..."

Zhao Yao struggled to his feet and reached out to grab Zhao Ying’s shoulder.

He wanted to demand what was wrong with her.

However, the moment his hand touched her shoulder, a huge force sent it flying back.

Zhao Ying didn’t even turn around. She just instinctively raised her arm to block, and Zhao Yao staggered back several steps before falling to the ground on his ass again.

His expression turned dazed.

The SLAM of a door finally snapped Zhao Yao back to his senses.

He sat on the floor, staring blankly at Zhao Ying’s closed door.

"What in the world is going on?"

he muttered to himself.

He was a sturdy young man, five-foot-eleven and over one hundred sixty-five pounds. He was a full head taller than Zhao Ying.

Yet now, his seemingly frail little sister had effortlessly beaten him to the ground.

...

After the door was shut, Zhao Ying leaned her back against it and slowly slid to the floor.

Her previously calm breathing had become a little ragged.

The coldness and dominance from moments ago seemed to vanish in an instant, replaced by a complex mix of emotions.

’I... I actually killed people?’

she thought, her pupils constricting slightly as she seemed to finally process what had just happened.

Her mind replayed the images of the men she had killed with her bare hands.

Their gazes had shifted from mocking and vicious to pure terror as they died, powerless in her grasp.

Strangely, as she recalled all this, she didn’t feel much fear. Instead, there was an indescribable sense of excitement.

The feeling of easily controlling the life and death of others sent an inexplicable thrill surging from the depths of her soul.

She even found herself getting lost in it, as if this was her true nature.

’Am I... a psycho?’

she wondered.

...

「Inside the Copper Cross Medal.」

Hu Qi observed every detail of Zhao Ying’s psychological changes.

Though their worlds were different, the fragmented memories of ancient ancestors were hidden deep within the Genes of all living things.

The alertness when facing danger, the exhilaration of the hunt—these instincts had never disappeared, merely suppressed by societal rules and morals.

Zhao Ying’s transformation was simply the result of her increased physical prowess and hormonal secretions activating those instincts.
