Late at night.
Flames raged and explosions echoed without end. Cries and screams wove together into a symphony of despair.
No matter the place, there are always lines that divide people, barriers that keep them apart.
Lower City C District was one of the three most affluent areas in the Lower City District. Its residents were considered the upper crust of the lower city.
At times, even dignitaries from Iron Rock Star’s Upper City District would set foot here for a vacation.
However, Lower City C District was now plunged into chaos.
The power went out, all electronics failed, and everyone was plunged into darkness.
However, before anyone could react...
A series of explosions rang out.
Then, in the central district, high-rise buildings exploded and collapsed, one after another.
The flames from the explosions lit up the once pitch-black C District.
Unaware of the truth, the crowds mistook it for an earthquake and fled in a panic, scattering like rats.
Relatively speaking, these people were the lucky ones.
The unlucky ones...
Were directly struck by Zhao Ying’s rocketing form. They instantly exploded into a mist of blood and viscera that mixed with the brick and stone, leaving not even a corpse behind.
Amid the chaos, Zhao Ying shot through the air like a meteor. She smashed through more than a dozen buildings before finally crashing into an industrial zone, kicking up a massive cloud of dust.
It was an iron refinery.
Zhao Ying’s body was embedded in a massive sheet of metal.
Mountains of scrap iron and steel were piled all around.
Just as Zhao Ying was about to open her eyes, she heard the piercing screech of grinding metal from above.
She looked up. The next second...
The violent impact had destabilized the massive furnace and towering iron framework above her. Now, they came crashing down.
The iron ingots piled on top rained down.
Heavy blocks of iron tumbled down from above, letting out a dull roar.
BOOM!
A block of iron weighing several tons slammed down beside her, kicking up a spray of dust.
Then, more and more blocks followed, burying Zhao Ying beneath a mountain of iron.
Dust filled the air, and the entire refinery fell deathly silent.
...
WHOOSH!
A gust of wind swept through.
The dust scattered.
CLATTER!
In the ruins of the iron refinery, atop the mountain of iron.
A piece of rubble rolled loose.
The next second.
A silver arm thrust out from within.
CRACKLE!
At the same time.
Faint blue arcs of electricity flickered at its fingertips.
BANG!
The mountain of iron burst apart. Heavy blocks of metal were torn asunder like fragile paper, shooting out in all directions like cannonballs. They slammed into the surroundings, creating a cacophony of explosive CRACKS and BANGS.
In the center of it all, Zhao Ying staggered to her feet.
The silver light enveloping her body faded.
It was a defensive layer she had created when she was attacked, formed by absorbing and condensing the molecular matter around her.
But even so...
Her body was still covered in horrific wounds.
A piece of rebar had even pierced straight through her abdomen.
Her squirming entrails and red muscle tissue were visible through the wound.
For any normal person, such an injury would have meant certain death. There would have been no point in even trying to save them.
Yet Zhao Ying merely swayed on her feet.
She casually gripped the rebar in her abdomen, pulled it free, and tossed it to the ground with a loud CLANG.
Then, the wounds on her body began to visibly heal.
"Such terrifying physical resilience. To think you could survive even that!"
Just then, a chilling voice suddenly rang out.
She looked toward the source of the voice.
There, on a nearby factory roof, a dark figure had appeared at some point.
It was the white-haired man named Celestial Magnet.
Flames flickered as the night wind whipped past, ruffling his silver-white hair and making it glint coldly in the moonlight.
He looked down on Zhao Ying, his gaze tinged with a playful amusement, as if he were sizing up a prized toy.
"I don’t sense the aura of my own kind from you. You don’t have the Light Bloodline, and you haven’t drawn on the power of the Forbidden Mecha, Sun’s Radiance."
Celestial Magnet’s voice was low and deliberate.
"Can you tell me how you did that?"
"Cough, cough..."
Zhao Ying opened her mouth and coughed up a glob of bloody phlegm. Her face was ashen.
She looked up, a wary glint in her eyes.
"You want to know?"
’My senses had only picked up eight of them. After I destroyed the eight Mecha, I thought it was over. I never expected this white-haired man to appear so silently, completely catching me by surprise.’
’I know exactly how strong my body is. Even a cannon barrage would barely scratch me. Yet that casual beam of his broke right through my defenses.’
"Of course. If your answer satisfies me, I might just let you live."
Celestial Magnet smiled faintly, his tone light, as if Zhao Ying were nothing more than an ant he could crush at any moment.
"And one more thing. Hand over the item. It’s not something you should possess."
Zhao Ying didn’t answer. Instead, she straightened her body.
In that instant, Zhao Ying’s form erupted into a flash of electric light and vanished.
Celestial Magnet’s expression shifted, and a flicker of coldness crossed his eyes.
"You’re asking to die!"
He shot his hand up, a ball of blue light flaring in his palm as he slammed it to his side.
Zhao Ying had reappeared less than two meters from him, her speed unbelievable.
Instead of retreating, Zhao Ying pressed forward, bringing her hand down in a vicious chop.
With a HISS, an invisible blade of energy shot forth, cleaving the beam of light clean in two.
