Super-Fertile Darling: Forced to Marry the Heirless Tyrant

Chapter 404: It’s Really Childbirth, and She Is Specifically Requested

The little bandit raised the blade in his hand. "Get out of my way," he said, "or I’ll let you have a taste of being gutted."

Jiao Zhengfeng, standing nearby, quickly swapped places with Lan Ling. This was his moment to step forward.

His eyes were red as he spoke. "Sir, my wife is having a baby. She’s really in labor, I’m not tricking you! She’s giving birth right now, you really can’t go in."

The little bandit spat the blade of grass he was chewing onto Jiao Zhengfeng’s face.

"You say so, and I’m supposed to believe you? Why don’t you just say *you’re* the one giving birth?"

He lifted his gleaming broadsword and rested it on Jiao Zhengfeng’s shoulder. "You big oaf, if you know what’s good for you, you’ll get the hell out of my way. Don’t block me from taking care of business."

Fear gripped Jiao Zhengfeng’s heart, but he still didn’t move aside.

A woman giving birth would have her clothes in disarray, her lower body exposed. How could he let bandits see that? Their circumstances were dire; they were only giving birth out in the open to survive.

Jiao Zhengfeng pleaded, "Sir, please, have a heart. It’s not easy for my wife."

The little bandit sneered. "So it’s not easy for her. Isn’t that because she’s with a useless man like you? What’s it got to do with me?"

Just then, a piercing cry came from within.

It was followed by the sound of a newborn taking its first breath of worldly air, letting out a cry as faint as a kitten’s meow.

It was much quieter than a typical baby’s cry, but it was proof that the child had survived.

Tears instantly streamed down Jiao Zhengfeng’s face. He suddenly squatted, grabbing the little bandit’s legs, and sobbed uncontrollably.

The little bandit’s expression turned strange. He kicked at the man but couldn’t shake him off. It took a great deal of effort to wrench his leg free.

’So she really was giving birth...’

An idea seemed to strike the little bandit. His eyes lit up, and he left the crowd, jogging toward the other side of the slope.

Ji Qingwu had no time to mind the disturbance outside. One of the twins was still in the womb. She continued to offer gentle encouragement.

"You’re doing very well. There’s one more little treasure to go. With the experience from the first, this one will be even smoother."

Chunhua’s lips were colorless, but she nodded, her eyes gentle and bright.

The birth of the second child was quicker.

On the sandy ground, the people gathered around the new mother cheered at the arrival of new life. The gloom of being held captive by bandits seemed to lift a little, and their spirits were not so heavy.

The little bandit ran all the way to Hu Lie, his face beaded with sweat.

He shouted excitedly, "Second-in-Command!"

Over here, Hu Lie was sitting on his horse, having opened a jar of wine that was already nearly empty.

"The wine from Lin’an is still the best, really hits the spot! What are you doing here? Didn’t I tell you to watch that group?"

Hu Lie drank the last of the wine and casually tossed the jar under a tree.

The little bandit said, "Second-in-Command, I came to report something. Among the hostages, there’s a woman giving birth. And she had two of them."

Hu Lie turned his head, his eyes widening. "Someone’s really giving birth? She’s already done? It was that easy?"

"It’s true, Second-in-Command," the little bandit said. "From what I saw, the birth went quite smoothly."

He added with a sycophantic smile, "Isn’t our Madame due soon, too? I was thinking, why don’t we grab this woman to be a wet nurse? It’s good to prepare in advance. When the Chief and the Third-in-Command find out, they’re sure to be pleased."

Hu Lie nodded. "You’re a thoughtful one, kid. She’s been driving me crazy these past few days, going on about how dangerous childbirth is, insisting on finding a midwife and a wet nurse... It’s been driving me nuts."

Although he complained, he was smiling so widely his bushy beard quivered.

The little bandit grinned. "What a coincidence! There’s one who can deliver babies in there, too. We can save them both for the Madame."

Hu Lie slapped his thigh. "Good, good! When we get back, I’ll give you the top credit for this! Separate those two, lock them up, and bring them back for the Madame to see."

He opened another jar of wine. "You make sure you watch those two closely. Don’t let anything go wrong."

"Of course." The little bandit stole a glance at Hu Lie’s unrestrained drinking.

In just a short time, half a jar of wine had already gone down his gullet. There was no guarantee he wouldn’t be drunk by the time they got back.

He ventured, "Second-in-Command, maybe you should drink a little less. When we get back, if the Madame smells that you’ve been drinking again, she’ll..."

’...call me over and give me a good scolding.’

Hu Lie shot him an irritated glare and scowled. "Are you the boss, or am I?"

The little bandit muttered, "Back at the village, you’re not the boss."

With the Chief, the Third-in-Command, and the Madame around, Hu Lie was far from the top dog at Black Wind Village.

Ji Qingwu cleaned the two infants as best she could, then took out a small vial from her robes and fed Chunhua two small pills.

She said to Jiao Zhengfeng, "Do your best to take care of her. She can’t be exposed to wind or cold, and the babies need to be fed on schedule."

Chunhua was exhausted after giving birth and had already fallen asleep.

They say a man should never kneel, but this man fell to his knees with a THUD before Ji Qingwu.

Jiao Zhengfeng’s eyes were bloodshot. "Benefactor, you saved our lives... you saved my whole family. I... I’m not good with words."

As he spoke, he began to kowtow on the sandy ground, his head making dull THUDS.

Ji Qingwu gestured for Si Hai to pull him up. Her gaze was gentle as she said, "You don’t need to thank me. The one you should thank is your wife. It wasn’t easy for her to pull through. Treat her well. That’s better than anything."

A bloody mark had already formed on Jiao Zhengfeng’s forehead from his kowtowing.

"I will. I’ll be good to Chunhua, and to the children. Benefactor, if there’s anything you ever need from me, just say the word."

The little bandit returned, leading a dozen or so men toward them.

"Take the woman who just gave birth."

Jiao Zhengfeng stepped forward to shield Chunhua. "What are you doing? You can’t take her!"

Four men pinned him to the ground. All he could do was watch helplessly as Chunhua was carried away.

The little bandit pointed a finger. "Take this pancake-faced village woman who delivered the babies, too."

Si Hai and Lan Ling instantly moved to stand in front of Ji Qingwu.

Ji Qingwu said, "We can’t go."

The little bandit sized her up. ’Her face is nothing special, but her voice is quite soft.’

He bounced the blade in his hand, threatening, "What are your legs for? Do I have to chop off your hands before you’ll walk?"

Ji Qingwu met his gaze and said unhurriedly, "Chunhua just gave birth. She can’t be moved. You’ll have to get a carriage. If she doesn’t recover properly and her health suffers, she won’t be able to produce any milk."

The little bandit’s hand froze.

Ji Qingwu continued, "And if you chop off my hands, how am I supposed to deliver babies?"

’What use would they have for a woman who just gave birth? And they specifically asked for me, the one who knows how to deliver babies.’

Ji Qingwu barely had to think to understand what this combination was for.

Realizing she had guessed his intentions, the little bandit became flustered and angry. "Don’t get cocky! Once the Madame gives birth, we’ll chop off your hands and feet!"

But he still did as Ji Qingwu demanded and brought a carriage.

Before boarding the carriage, Ji Qingwu made a gesture to Si Hai.
