Chapter 1308: Chapter 1307: Reward

She spoke the same dialect as the girl next to her. It wasn’t as clear as Mandarin, but Jiang Cheng could still understand.

"Hmm. Is that okay?" Jiang Cheng asked.

"It’s okay, but where are you guys from? You certainly don’t look like you’re from around here." The girl glanced at Jiang Cheng and Qiu Qingqing behind him, her eyes showing some amazement.

"We’re from a nearby city, completely unfamiliar with this place."

Jiang Cheng said.

"Well, you can stay at my house." The girl said, lowering her head, appearing quite embarrassed, with her exposed ears turning red.

The girl next to her was still smiling mischievously, whispering something into the ear of the girl who spoke.

"Thank you so much. Where is your house? I can go by myself." Jiang Cheng said.

"Oh, I’ll take you there. You probably won’t be able to find it on your own."

The girl said with a smile.

"Okay, let’s go." Jiang Cheng said, "Let’s go." He also said to the silent Qiu Qingqing behind him, who had unknowingly donned her cold demeanor again, not uttering a single word. She simply nodded at Jiang Cheng and followed along.

The two girls parted ways; one continued towards the riverbank, while the fair-skinned girl led Jiang Cheng and Qiu Qingqing in the direction of her home.

"I’m Xiaoqing. What about you?" The girl asked.

Jiang Cheng paused, glanced at Qiu Qingqing beside him, who was looking a bit embarrassed but still remained silent, "Qiu Zi." Qiu Qingqing said suddenly.

Jiang Cheng did not expect Qiu Qingqing to suddenly change her name.

"Jiang Cheng?" Xiaoqing called softly a few times, her eyes smiling brightly, "Sister Qiu Zi, you’re so beautiful, I’ve never seen anyone as beautiful as you." She said to Qiu Qingqing.

"You’re cute too." Qiu Qingqing said. Xiaoqing, being complimented, smiled shyly at Jiang Cheng.

Jiang Cheng was also surprised that Qiu Qingqing would respond, as she usually wouldn’t bother with such comments.

"It’s right up ahead!" Xiaoqing pointed at an ordinary house ahead. Along the way, Jiang noticed the village looked quite typical, self-sufficient, picturesque, and seemed quite idyllic, like a utopia.

"Xiaoqing, what are you up to?" An older lady asked as she approached, not stopping her scrutiny of Jiang Cheng and Qiu Qingqing beside Xiaoqing.

"Aunt Li, these are my cousin and cousin-in-law, they’re here to visit for a few days." Xiaoqing said.

The older lady continued staring at Jiang Cheng and Qiu Qingqing, showing no sign of leaving, "Oh my, they certainly look like city folks, so good-looking.

"From which relatives? I didn’t know." The older lady looked at Jiang Cheng as she spoke.

Qiu Qingji looked increasingly impatient, her cold demeanor unmistakably turning to annoyance. Jiang Cheng was puzzled as to why this older lady blocked their way like this.

"Aunt Li, we have to go, we have some things to do, we’ll talk another day." Xiaoqing said.

The older lady finally stepped aside, "Alright, alright, you go take care of your business." Although she walked away, she kept muttering under her breath.

"People here are like this, if I didn’t say you were my relatives, it would be quite troublesome..." Xiaoqing said, looking timidly at Jiang Cheng, a bit embarrassed.

Jiang Cheng nodded, thinking Xiaoqing was quite smart, seeming to have some understanding of his and Qiu Qingqing’s intentions.

Xiaoqing, seeing that Jiang Cheng wasn’t blaming her, looked a bit happy and smiled shyly, "We’ve almost arrived. I’ll go open the door." Xiaoqing said, and then dashed off.

"There’s something off about Xiaoqing, you need to be careful." Jiang Cheng said to Qiu Qingqing.

Qiu Qingqing suddenly smiled, "Seems like you weren’t enchanted, don’t forget my name is Qiu Zi."

"Enchanted? What do you mean?" Jiang Cheng asked.

"Just the literal meaning, can’t you tell that young girl is into you?" Qiu Qingqing said.

"What are you talking about? Don’t you think she’s suspicious? Just so happens to run into us, and then tells others we’re her relatives." Jiang Cheng said.

"Got it." Qiu Qingqing shrugged helplessly, indicating she understood.

Jiang Cheng and Qiu Qingqing quickly reached Xiaoqing’s house, which was larger than expected; it had a small courtyard with lush green vegetables, all well-tended.

The courtyard was also very clean. As Jiang Cheng was taking it all in, he saw Xiaoqing come out from the house opposite, accompanied by a woman who looked like Xiaoqing’s mother. She resembled Xiaoqing, though her face bore deeper wrinkles, and her gaze carried the same timid look as Xiaoqing’s.

"Mom, these are the people who want to stay at our house." Xiaoqing said.

Xiaoqing’s mom looked Jiang Cheng and Qiu Qingqing over, her gaze lingering on Qiu Qingqing, thinking something to herself but not speaking for a long time, just observing the two.

"We just want to stay one night, we’ll leave tomorrow and will compensate you accordingly." Jiang Cheng said seeing Xiaoqing’s mom seem a bit hesitant.

"Mom? What’s the matter?" Xiaoqing nudged her mother and whispered something. Her mother suddenly seemed embarrassed, "Oh, no need for any compensation, just stay." Xiaoqing’s mother said to Jiang Cheng and Qiu Qingqing, her face breaking into a wide smile.

Jiang Cheng glanced back at Qiu Qingqing, seeing the same understanding look on her face. Jiang Cheng, of course, said nothing, "Thank you for your trouble."

"No trouble at all, come in and have dinner, it’s just ready."

Xiaoqing’s mother said.

Jiang Cheng and Qiu Qingqing didn’t stand on ceremony and followed her inside. Jiang Cheng noticed the simple furnishings typical of a rural household. The table had several dishes, looking quite sumptuous.

"Sit down. I’ll make a few more dishes." Xiaoqing’s mother said, inviting Jiang Cheng and Qiu Qingqing.

"No, no, there’s enough food." Jiang Cheng hurriedly said.

Still, Xiaoqing’s mother insisted on heading to the kitchen to cook. Jiang Cheng felt a bit embarrassed, "Go ahead and eat, Brother Jiang, and Sister Qiu." Xiaoqing said pouring two cups of tea for Jiang Cheng and Qiu Qingqing.

Jiang Cheng had not heard anyone call him Brother Jiang in a long time. The last person to do so was Cloud, he wondered how she was doing now. Jiang Cheng still worried about Ming.

Jiang Cheng was lost in thought for a moment, before he turned to see Qiu Qingqing had already started eating, clearly hungry, yet still ate gracefully. Jiang Cheng watched and thought.

"Why aren’t you eating, Brother Jiang?" Xiaoqing asked, glancing at Qiu Qingqing.

"Oh, yes. You eat too." Jiang Cheng said, having been lost in thoughts about Qiu Seqing. Qiu Qingqing took a sip of tea and suddenly smiled. Hearing her laughter, Jiang Cheng looked up to see Qiu Qingqing’s playful smile, and he quickly lowered his head, taking a bite of food.

Seeing their reactions, Xiaoqing lowered her eyes, a flash of cruelty passing through them, not at all like her usual innocence.
