Chapter 1319: Chapter 1318: Stone Valley
The people behind also came in, and Jiang Cheng saw the door being opened, with light streaming in from outside. Jiang Cheng always felt he had been unconscious for a long time, at least it should be evening by now. Yet, it’s still so bright.
"How did you wake up so quickly? That’s impossible." A person from behind walked over to Jiang Cheng’s side and asked in confusion.
"Who cares? Anyway, it’s perfect timing to report that he’s awake. Unless you want him to stay unconscious forever." The man at the front said.
One of the men stood in front of Jiang Cheng, "You guys go find the boss, I’ll keep an eye on him here."
The remaining two people turned and left without any objections. The remaining man looked at Jiang Cheng. With the light shining through the door, Jiang Cheng saw that this man was taller than him, and compared to the two men next to him earlier, he appeared even taller. He was observing Jiang Cheng with slightly upturned, narrow eyes filled with spirit, and overall, his features were prominent with sharp, rugged facial lines. To be precise, this man had outstanding features and looked at Jiang Cheng with an expression closer to pity. Jiang Cheng was somewhat uncertain about this man’s true identity.
Jiang Cheng simply looked at the man silently, without moving or showing any expression. "Are you really a spy?" the man asked.
"What do you think?" Jiang Cheng retorted.
"What do I think? Haha, I don’t know." The man chuckled a few times, seemingly a bit helpless.
Jiang Cheng thought this person was truly strange. He recalled how he and Qiu Qingqing were captured by the masked man before, and now they were taken here as if they were part of their group. He wasn’t sure if he was actually a spy. Jiang Cheng laughed at himself at the thought. However, the man in front of him seemed more like a spy than he did, be it his weird attitude or his expression of pity.
"Forget it. What does it have to do with me anyway?" the man laughed, "But I don’t think you’re a genuine spy. At least, you definitely wouldn’t work for them wholeheartedly.
"Can I escape?" Jiang Cheng asked calmly, as casually as if he was asking a friend if they had eaten.
The man was suddenly taken aback, staring at Jiang Cheng for a long while without coming to his senses. "Haha, this is really interesting," the man said. "Are you asking for my help?"
"Of course not, I don’t even know who you are, and besides, you have no reason to help me. I’m not that naive." Jiang Cheng replied.
The man stood up, glanced outside the door, and then looked at Jiang Cheng. Suddenly, he noticed Jiang Cheng’s hand was free from the rope. He laughed lightly, with an indescribable look in his eyes as he gazed at Jiang Cheng.
"Of course you can escape, but I’ll have to help you," the man said.
Jiang Cheng didn’t show the excitement or enthusiasm the man had imagined, sitting silently in place. He looked at the man slowly, "So what? Will you help me?"
"It depends on your performance. Even if you leave here today, I can assure you, we’ll meet again in the future," the man said slowly.
"Who can say for sure about the future?" Jiang Cheng said.
"Haha, tonight you should be able to leave. But after tomorrow, you’re in danger," the man said, taking out a cigarette from his pocket and slowly holding it between his fingers.
"But if you really are a spy, if you really are," the man said slowly, lighting the cigarette and taking a drag, the smoke he exhaled slowly made his face appear a bit blurred.
"Then what about me? Does anyone still remember me? Does he still remember me?" the man said slowly.
Jiang Cheng clearly heard the man’s words, although softly spoken and in slowed sentences, but Jiang Cheng still couldn’t understand what he was implying. However, he clearly felt the man’s deep sadness.
Jiang Cheng remained silent, sitting quietly while the man finished his cigarette. He just pressed the cigarette butt against the ground to extinguish it when Jiang Cheng saw the boss they spoke of arrive at the door, followed by the two men from earlier.
The man known as the boss undeniably looked menacingly sinister, possessing all the physical traits of a bad guy. At this moment, the boss walked up to the man from earlier. "How’s it going?" the boss asked.
"Nothing to say," the man replied flatly. He was much taller than the boss, and still had to slightly lower his head to speak. Yet, there was no sign of deference on his face.
The boss’s face showed clear impatience as he slowly approached Jiang Cheng, "If you don’t talk now, you’ll regret it tomorrow."
Jiang Cheng watched the sudden display of cruelty on the man’s face, glaring viciously at him. Jiang Cheng felt a foreboding sense gripping his heart. His hands slowly tightened around the ropes behind him. "Let him think it over," the man who spoke earlier suddenly said.
The boss withdrew his hand from his pocket. Only then did Jiang Cheng’s heart start to settle. It had been too risky just now, Jiang Cheng thought. His palms were so cold with sweat that it almost soaked the ropes. He was really afraid the man would pull out a gun.
The boss gave the man a glance but didn’t turn to look at Jiang Cheng again. "Hmm, fine," the boss said flatly, as if nothing had just happened.
The boss and the two people who had just entered walked out again. At that moment, only Jiang Cheng and the man from before remained. "Don’t sleep tonight," the man said, then turned to leave.
"What about you? Will there be any issues for you?" Jiang Cheng asked. Jiang Cheng had just witnessed the ferocity of these brutal men. Their mood could switch in an instant, and maybe a head would roll within moments. Jiang Cheng was feeling a bit uneasy.
"I’m now completely sure, you’re definitely not one of them." The man said with a smile. "You don’t need to worry about me. I’ve been here for many years. I have enough skills to manage," the man said lightly and left.
Jiang Cheng watched the man turn and walk away, suddenly feeling that his back bore deep sorrow. A kind of somber mood that could not be dissolved lingered in him.
Jiang Cheng didn’t know why this man wanted to help him. There was certainly no reason, but Jiang Cheng felt he could trust him. Regardless, now this seemed like the only relatively safe option.
Waiting until nightfall, Jiang Cheng dared not shut his eyes, though he was not idle. He took out the computer from his Jiezhi Bracelet and observed the surrounding terrain. Jiang Cheng found that moving forward seemingly led to an oasis, but the records were sparse and brief. He then opened a simulated positioning device to map the whole of Stone Valley.
Jiang Cheng, of course, didn’t see the colorful rocky mountains Bai Ze mentioned. He looked at the positioning device he had given Qiu Qingqing before. It didn’t show her to be nearby. It seemed like there were no leads at all, Jiang Cheng thought.
Slowly, Jiang Cheng put away the computer, noting that it was already midnight. There wasn’t a sound outside. Inside, Jiang Cheng was still a bit anxious. He had just arrived here and was mistaken as a spy; it really fulfilled Bai Ze’s words. Things were indeed complicated for a while.
