Chapter 1329: Chapter 1328: The Thought
Jiang Cheng slowly examined the strand of hair. He really hadn’t noticed it before; it was too small and its color wasn’t noticeable at all. So, Jiang Cheng hadn’t seen it.
"Your eyesight is too good, Xiaokang. I still can’t see it right now.
Wang smiled and said, "I’m old, with presbyopia. I can’t see such small things at all.
Jiang Cheng held his breath and kept staring at the hair, afraid that breathing would blow it away.
The others, seeing Jiang Cheng’s cautious look, didn’t dare to speak either, and quietly watched Jiang Cheng.
The strand of hair wasn’t long, not more than twenty centimeters, but it looked unusually thin. Jiang Cheng even questioned if a person’s hair could be this thin.
Moreover, half of the strand was inside the door, with the other half outside. Jiang Cheng had never put much effort into deciphering such codes, feeling a bit challenged at the moment, but he had once read a book before.
The book was roughly about mechanisms similar to those of the Mo Family.
But those were wooden mechanisms; could they be the same as this one? Jiang Cheng was somewhat puzzled.
However, by analogy, the way to open such a mechanism would be to cut off the outside half of the hair.
Jiang Cheng slowly stepped back a few steps, feeling that speaking wouldn’t affect the hair, "I think we should cut off the outer half.
"Cut it directly? Wouldn’t that be a problem?" Xiaokang asked uncertainly.
I’m not sure either, but that’s my suggestion," Jiang Cheng said.
Qi looked at the hair, then at Jiang Cheng, "I trust you, brother. I think you should be able to open this door.
I think we should do as Jiang said. After all, there’s no other way now. At worst, we just can’t get in," Wang said.
Xiaokang was still hesitant, not speaking for a long time, hesitatingly looking at the hair, "Alright. I don’t have any other ideas either."
Once Jiang Cheng got everyone’s approval, he slowly moved forward and cut the outer half of the hair. He moved extremely slowly, his heart still pounding.
As soon as Jiang Cheng cut the hair, the entire cave started shaking, with many rocks falling from above, and the ground trembled incessantly. Jiang Cheng felt like he was going to be shaken apart.
"What’s happening!?" Wang quickly held onto a protruding rock nearby and said fearfully.
Everyone present was a bit panicked, grabbing onto whatever they could rely on to ensure their safety.
Jiang Cheng saw the scene and became worried as well, wondering if he had made a mistake in his guess and that the hair shouldn’t have been cut.
"Everyone, don’t panic, just wait a moment. Don’t rush out," Jiang Cheng said, seeing Xiaokang seemingly about to make a run for it.
However, Xiaokang seemed not to hear Jiang Cheng, kept moving forward, "Xiaokang, stop for now," Wang said urgently.
Qi and Wang held firmly onto nearby protruding rocks without leaving.
Upon hearing Wang, Xiaokang stopped, turned to look at Jiang Cheng and the others, but still seemed fearful, unwilling to heed Jiang Cheng’s advice.
"Staying here will kill us. Look around. Can we still get out of here? I told you we shouldn’t have cut that hair," Xiaokang complained.
"Wait a moment. Rushing out now could be dangerous," Jiang Zai was still blocking Xiaokang. "With the cave shaking like this, there might be noise that could draw other dangers here."
Xiaokang just continued staring at Jiang Cheng, still determined to leave.
"Brother Xiaokang, wait!" Qi yelled at Xiaokang. At that moment, he could barely stand as the ground kept shaking. Qi felt like he was about to fall, but surprisingly, he thought about letting go to pull Xiaokang back.
"Eh? Qi, don’t go. It’s very dangerous if you let go now," Jiang Cheng shouted.
"Yes, Qi, don’t go. Even if you go, you might not be able to pull Xiaokang back. It’s too dangerous," Wang shouted from the side.
However, Qi hesitated, looking at Jiang Cheng and then at Xiaokang, who had walked about a hundred meters away, with an unwilling expression. But Xiaokang never looked back.
Jiang Cheng was well aware that Xiaokang never fully trusted him from the beginning, leading to the current situation. But this wasn’t the time to dwell on that. With the ground shaking violently and more stones falling from the cave’s entrance, Jiang Cheng felt like he was always vibrating with the ground, gradually losing his grip on the protruding rock he was holding.
Just then, a sudden scream rang out, loud and from the direction Xiaokang had gone. The voice sounded like his.
"Is it, is it Brother Xiaokang?" Qi’s voice trembled with terror and concern.
It was undoubtedly Xiaokang’s voice, Jiang Cheng thought. Just then, everything calmed down; no more stones fell, and the ground stopped shaking. The whole cave was serene, as if everything before was a hallucination. However, everyone’s heart was far from calm as they silently stared at the ground.
After a long while, without anyone speaking, Jiang Cheng was the first to walk in the direction Xiaokang had left. After only a few steps, he smelled a strong scent of blood, and he knew something was wrong!
Hurriedly, he took a few more steps and saw Xiaokang lying on the ground. Xiaokang didn’t have his usual vitality, lying motionlessly in a pool of blood without any sign of life. His upper body was completely pinned under a large rock.
The protruding part of the rock pierced directly into Xiaokang, a pitiful sight.
Jiang Cheng ran to Xiaokang’s side, shaking him and shouting, "Xiaokang! Wake up, hey!
Xiaokang suddenly moved a little, spitting out blood, slowly and painfully opening his eyes, looking very distressed, brows furrowed tightly, struggling to look at Jiang Cheng, his lips moving as if trying to speak.
Jiang Cheng leaned his head close to Xiaokang’s, trying hard to hear what he was saying, but he couldn’t make out his words.
At this time, Qi and Wang ran to Jiang Cheng’s side, "Brother Xiaokang!
Qi shouted, sounding on the verge of tears.
Qi collapsed next to Xiaokang, his eyes red.
"Brother Xiaokang, are you okay!
Xiaokang’s face forced a smile, looking at Qi, and he finally managed to speak in fragments, "Qiqi, don’t cry.
"This, this is my, my," without finishing, Xiaokang spat out more blood, his shirt almost entirely soaked in blood.
"Xiaokang, stop talking. Let’s think of a way to get you out first."
Wang looked at Xiaokang with compassion and hurriedly said, "No, no, listen to me," Xiaokang continued speaking with an increasingly weak voice, "It’s because I didn’t listen, didn’t listen to Jiang Cheng’s brother, that’s why this happened. I, really, really brought this upon myself." Xiaokang laughed a few times while speaking.
