Chapter 1331: Chapter 1330: Multicolored Soil
Jiang Cheng didn’t find any other path, so he could only move through layer after layer of doors, continuing forward. There was simply no other way.
Thus, the group continued walking straight ahead, passing through four doors and traveling a long distance.
Uncle Wang, you must be exhausted. Jiang Cheng noticed Uncle Wang’s steps were somewhat unsteady. After all, his age was no longer small, and such strenuous exercise was taxing even for Jiang Cheng, let alone Uncle Wang.
I’m alright, let’s keep going. Uncle Wang exhaled slowly and spoke.
Why don’t we rest for a bit? We don’t know how far we have to walk, and it’s already one AM. Jiang Cheng glanced at the time and said.
So they sat on the ground right where they were, the tomb cold and damp. Jiang Cheng felt gusts of cold wind rising from the ground.
He remembered he had brought some sleeping bags, so he took them out and gave them to Uncle Wang and Qi. "It’s too cold, use these to warm up. Adjust them from here." Jiang Cheng pointed to the thermometer on the sleeping bag. Jiang Cheng had previously modified these sleeping bags to adjust the temperature, and he hadn’t anticipated they would be useful now.
Alright. Thanks, brother. Qi was actually very tired, his eyes even more worn from crying earlier in the day.
Jiang Cheng was also exhausted; he felt he was about to fall asleep as soon as he lay down.
But Jiang Cheng still slept uneasily the entire night, only managing four hours of sleep. At five o’clock, he woke up, while Uncle Wang and Qi were still asleep.
Jiang Cheng went to the stone door nearby, closed it, and took out his computer. He wanted to simulate the geographical location here using his computer to see if there was another way through.
Jiang Cheng’s fingers danced quickly over the keyboard, and in the end, he discovered there was indeed no other path; there were ten doors in total. With the current situation, Jiang Cheng knew the only option was to keep advancing through these doors to see what lay inside.
Jiang Cheng checked the time—it was already past seven. He packed up the computer and went back. As he reached the spot where they’d slept, he saw Uncle Wang was already awake, holding water and food, eating.
"Jiang, you’re back? Want some?" Uncle Wang shook the items in his hand at Jiang Cheng.
Jiang Cheng shook his head, "I have some; you eat first."
Uncle Wang nodded, putting the leftover food into his bag, "Did you just go survey the terrain?" he asked, walking to Jiang Cheng’s side. "Yes, I took a look around." Jiang Cheng replied.
"Sigh, having you makes me feel relieved. Otherwise, I wouldn’t know what to do." Uncle Wang said, looking at Jiang Cheng.
Just then, Qi woke up too, "Hey, you guys are up? Am I holding things back? I just woke up too." Qi spoke apologetically, looking out of focus, clearly just woken up.
Qi rubbed his eyes and walked to Jiang Cheng, "Brother, are we leaving now?"
Jiang Cheng smiled, "No rush to leave; clean up and come for some food."
Qi quickly tidied up, and then the three continued moving forward. "This place is so eerie; I never want to come here again." Qi said after walking for a while,
"Are you scared? We’re almost at the real tomb." Uncle Wang said with a smile.
Qi glanced back at Uncle Wang, straightening his chest as if proving something, "No way, if I were scared, I wouldn’t have come."
"But why did you come here, kid?" Uncle Wang asked.
"Can’t tell you, and I’m not a kid." Qi said angrily, looking at Uncle Wang.
"Oh, not telling me?" Uncle Wang said teasingly.
"Then why did you come here at such an old age?" Qi retorted defiantly.
"Me? I’m here for my daughter." Uncle Wang’s eyes suddenly turned gentle, "She’s about your age." He said, looking at Qi.
"Really? Your daughter? Is she pretty?" Qi eagerly moved next to Uncle Wang.
Uncle Wang’s eyes suddenly held a trace of sadness, but he quickly lowered his eyelids, concealing his emotions. When he raised his head again, his gaze seemed normal. "Very pretty."
Qi didn’t notice Uncle Wang’s peculiar behavior, "Really? I want to see a photo!" Qi still seemed excited.
"A photo? I don’t have one with me right now." Uncle Wang’s mood grew increasingly low, and he said quietly.
"Oh, alright. Then why did you come here because of your daughter?" Qi asked.
Uncle Wang’s mood was already very poor; he seemed deeply immersed in sorrow. Jiang Cheng noticed Uncle Wang’s expression appeared off. In such a dark and stuffy place, a despondent mood could lead to suffocation.
"Qi, come here; I have a question for you." Jiang Cheng said. It seemed Uncle Wang’s daughter was the reason for his current pain.
Qi glanced at Uncle Wang and ran to Jiang Cheng, "What’s up?"
"Brother!"
"Hold onto this. If it lights up, tell me." Jiang Cheng handed him a sonar locator.
Qi, attracted by the novelty of the device, started examining it curiously like a child. This locator would only light up if Qiu Qingqing were nearby, so it wouldn’t show any reaction now. Jiang Cheng had him hold it to divert his attention.
Fortunately, Qi was completely absorbed by the locator now, no longer pestering Uncle Wang with questions.
Up ahead lies the last door; everyone stay alert." Jiang Cheng said.
"Finally, we’re almost there. What a long journey." Uncle Wang sighed.
"Yes, we’re almost there." Jiang Cheng said.
They soon reached the innermost door. This door was completely different from the previous ordinary stone doors; it had ancient patterns incomprehensible to them, with features resembling mechanisms.
"This definitely looks different from the previous ones," Qi exclaimed.
Jiang Cheng took out a disposable bag, collected some dirt from the ground, and examined it. Analyzing this soil could help determine if anyone had been here.
Is there a problem with this dirt? Qi came over to ask.
"I watched on TV before; if someone had been here, no matter how well they concealed it, the dirt would be different." Uncle Wang said, looking at the soil in Jiang Cheng’s hand.
...
"Correct, I’ll mainly check the composition of this soil later to see if anyone has entered." Jiang Cheng said.
Jiang Cheng tested the soil in his hand and found it to be ’five-variety soil’. Five-variety soil indicates that intruders here have made some camouflage efforts. However, camouflage requires disturbing the soil near the entrance, so this soil differs in color and characteristics from the earth inside a normal tomb chamber. Such soil confirms that someone has entered here.
