Chapter 1333: Chapter 1332: Struggle

Qi chuckled, clearly looking skeptical. Jiang Cheng carefully examined the stone coffin; it wasn’t sealed tightly, and it was obvious that it had been opened recently.

"Let’s open it together," Jiang Cheng said, pointing to both ends of the stone coffin.

Qi and Wang nodded, and the three of them easily opened the stone coffin.

The instant they opened the stone coffin, all three were stunned, for they didn’t find the expected remains; it was completely empty inside. It seemed as if nothing had ever been placed inside.

"How come there’s nothing inside, Brother?" Qi exclaimed.

Jiang Cheng looked at the empty coffin, observing the fresh traces suggesting someone had taken the remains away. But what use could the remains serve? Jiang Cheng couldn’t figure it out, yet he had a hunch it might be related to the White Flower Stone.

"What do you think these mean, Brother?" Qi asked, pointing at some inscriptions on the lid of the stone coffin.

Jiang Cheng looked at the lid of the stone coffin, noticing some writing and drawings similar to those on the stone door outside.

On it was depicted the same woman portrayed on the stone door, but now she was tied to a cross, standing before a crowd of people, both men and women, looking dismal as opposed to the grandeur on the door. She seemed to be in great distress.

The woman seemed about to be executed, her body covered in blood, appearing gruesome and bloody.

The expressions of the people below were hostile and angry, seemingly condemning her. It was likely these people who killed the woman, burying her here, leaving no trace of her remains now.

"Brother, why is it empty? Look here," Qi had been knocking around the bottom of the coffin and discovered a hollow spot.

Jiang Cheng knocked on the spot Qi pointed at, and indeed it sounded hollow, "It seems there’s an undiscovered space here," Jiang Cheng remarked.

Leaving aside the woman’s identity, the coffin itself appeared to have issues. Jiang Cheng pondered. He inspected the interior but didn’t find anything peculiar. After checking every inch, he found nothing out of the ordinary.

Jiang Cheng turned his gaze to the coffin lid beside him. Now, this seemed to be the only problematic part left. Examining the lid, he discovered some irregularities.

The inside of the lid had some dents, disrupting the coffin’s aesthetic. Although the coffin’s construction was simple and the material not too precious, its patterns were opulently exquisite, making the dents appear out of place.

Moreover, Jiang Cheng noticed the dents were remarkably even, unlikely to be caused by accident. When Jiang Cheng pressed his hand against them, he found they perfectly matched the size of his fingers.

Jiang Cheng pressed down on the dents again, hearing a noise, "Huh? What’s that sound? Where’s it coming from?" Qi asked as he watched Jiang Cheng’s hand.

Jiang Cheng examined the spot he had just pressed; there was nothing unusual. Where did the sound come from? Jiang Cheng was puzzled.

"Step back a bit. Let me try again," Jiang Cheng told Qi and Wang.

"Will it be dangerous?" Qi asked, looking at Jiang Cheng with fear in his eyes. "No, I’ll just see what happens, and if there’s danger, I’ll avoid it." Jiang Cheng reassured him. Qi was probably still spooked by what happened to Xiaokang previously. Despite Jiang Cheng’s assurances, Qi remained steadfast by his side.

Seeing Qi like that, Jiang Cheng felt reluctant to say more.

Jiang Cheng placed his hand on the dent again, pressing lightly, and once again heard a sound, realizing the noise was coming from beneath the coffin.

Qi and Wang also noticed it then, showing surprised expressions, "Underneath? The sound came from below?" Qi pointed beneath the coffin, uncertain.

Jiang Cheng nodded, pressing hard, and sure enough, there was a loud noise as the entire bottom of the coffin opened, resembling a huge hole.

"My God, really incredible!" Qi exclaimed at the hole, releasing continuous exclamations of amazement. "This is just too terrifying; what else don’t I know about this place?"

Jiang Cheng gazed at the large hole before him, feeling a sense of clarity. Having wandered this unfamiliar place for so long, discovering this made Jiang Cheng excited and relieved.

"Shall we go in?" Wang asked, looking at the hole below, his eyes showing a fleeting, obscure glimmer.

"Go in, of course. There must be something wrong inside. Are you thinking of leaving now?" Qi looked at Wang and said.

Wang said nothing, just appeared worried, lost in thought.

"Wang? What’s wrong? Don’t you want to go inside?" Jiang Cheng asked. Ever since the hole appeared, Wang seemed troubled.

"Not exactly," Wang’s expression was uneasy, his face looking slightly ill, "I think it might be very dangerous inside. So, do you want to think it over?"

Jiang Cheng glanced at the hole. Of course, even from the outside, it looked full of danger, but this journey had been fraught with peril. Jiang Cheng couldn’t understand what Wang was worried about.

"Wang, are you scared? If so, you can wait here while Qi and I go ahead." Qi teased Wang with a smile.

"Of course not. Gosh, you youngster," Wang’s tone was exasperated but conflicted, ultimately shaking his head, "Let’s go, I won’t back off now."

"Then let’s go," Jiang Cheng said to Wang and Qi.

Jiang Cheng stood directly above the hole, seeing a narrow staircase leading downward. At least from this view, it was entirely feasible to descend, and a path had been built for this purpose.

"There’s even a path!" Qi exclaimed, "I thought we’d have to jump down."

"Come on, Wang, you and Qi go down first." Jiang Cheng said to Wang and Qi behind him.

Wang didn’t protest, giving Jiang Cheng a thankful look before taking the lead,

"Brother, I’m the youngest; I should go last," Qi said to Jiang Cheng.

"What are you saying? Go on first." Jiang Cheng pulled Qi in front of him.

So, the three of them descended to the bottom. It wasn’t as dark and sinister as expected. But after coming down the narrow steps from above, they felt an overwhelming sense of musty chill.

"It does feel creepier down here than outside; it makes my heart ache," Qi said, clutching his chest.

Jiang Cheng nodded. The path was lit with candles on either side, and the floor was paved, resembling more an ancient palace, imbued with a sense of ancient elegance.
