Chapter 2145: Chapter 2146: Giant Python
Following the trail of that creature’s tail, Lin Chen gradually saw clearly the strange beast hidden behind the Ice Soul Grass.
It was a gigantic serpent, its enormous body coiled around the Ice Soul Grass so tightly that its full form was hard to discern, while its head was positioned right behind the pure white Ice Soul Grass.
A pair of icy eyes stared at Lin Chen from afar, making his body, already submerged in water, feel an even deeper chill seep into his bones.
Lin Chen swam upward and surfaced, climbing onto the shore and catching his breath.
The pool water was bone-piercing cold. Although Lin Chen was no slouch in the water, he could not fully exert his strength in it. Coupled with the serpent’s natural advantage as a water-dwelling beast, as one rose and the other fell, it would be extremely difficult for Lin Chen to seize the Ice Soul Grass from that place.
He sat on the bank, thinking carefully. Time was pressing, but he still had to come up with a plan before making a move.
He scanned the surroundings, a sharp light flickering in his eyes. Since fighting underwater was out of the question, Lin Chen would have to lure this giant serpent up onto land. The simplest way, naturally, was to enrage it!
With that thought, a plan formed in Lin Chen’s mind.
He shook his still-damp clothes, then walked into the forest and swung the sharp Tianyan Ancient Sword in his hand.
The ancient sword was preternaturally sharp. Even without channeling his cultivation of Spiritual Energy, its blade, as if hacking through a piece of rag, easily chopped down several trees in the forest.
Then he dragged the felled trees, came to the edge of the pool, and bent his knees. His powerful legs, storing up force, exploded with tremendous strength; he stomped on the ground, and his body shot straight up into the air with the motion.
Suspended in midair, Lin Chen raised the tree high and hurled the massive old trunk on his shoulder toward the pool.
The ancient tree was thick and heavy, yet under Lin Chen’s swing it shot out from his hand like an arrow leaving the string.
The thick old tree carried a howling gust of wind as it smashed down toward the originally calm lake.
With a resounding bang, the impact of the ancient tree erupted like thunder, the sound spreading far into the distance and instantly throwing the forest into chaos.
As the tree crashed down, Lin Chen landed steadily back on the ground. After that he hefted another tree onto his shoulder and threw it from midair, repeating the same method.
The tranquil cold pool exploded with splashing waves. One ancient tree after another fell whole into the water, and amid a series of shrill hisses they were shredded into fragments of broken wood that were flung in all directions together with the spray.
When everything finally calmed, the once-limpid cold pool was now covered with floating wood chips across its surface.
At the same time, in the middle of the pool, water spouts began to surge up, and the silhouette of a giant serpent slowly emerged from beneath the surface.
Its body was monstrously huge; just the portion rising out of the water was a full hundred meters tall. On its head, densely covered in Scale Armor, two small eyes hid within the scales, emitting a ghostly cold light.
Lin Chen was utterly unafraid; this was exactly the effect he wanted. He slightly tipped his head back, Tianyan Ancient Sword in hand, and his indifferent, calm expression made him seem heroic despite appearing countless times smaller than the giant serpent.
Hiss.
The giant serpent’s body writhed through the air, its head swaying as it flicked out a blood-red, foul-smelling tongue, slowly pressing toward Lin Chen. The rest of its massive body remained submerged in the water.
Just as it was about to reach Lin Chen, the serpent suddenly lunged. Despite its massive size, its reaction was not slow in the slightest. It opened its maw wide, and from the hollow fangs in its upper jaw oozed thick venom.
Lin Chen was neither alarmed nor afraid, his expression as calm as ever. Now that he stood on solid ground, the feeling of his feet firmly planted filled him with incomparable ease.
He waited quietly for the giant serpent to come. Its jaws gaped open, blotting out the light; Lin Chen only felt the world ahead go dark, and his body, along with the clods of dirt beneath his feet, was swallowed into the serpent’s mouth.
It wasn’t that he couldn’t dodge; Lin Chen simply felt there was no need.
Once inside the serpent’s mouth, with the sharp Tianyan Ancient Sword in hand, the one in the greatest danger was not Lin Chen at all—but the giant serpent before him.
He raised the sword high, a thin layer of Spiritual Energy wrapping around the blade. The sword, already deadly sharp, gained several more degrees of lethal edge.
Lin Chen’s gaze suddenly turned cold. He flipped the sword in his hand, pointed the tip downward, and drove it in with all his strength!
The keen blade tore through the serpent’s tender tongue and flesh. Scarlet blood sprayed out like a fountain, the foul stench spreading with the spurting blood and splashing all over Lin Chen inside its maw. A wave of nausea instantly surged up in his chest.
Roar!
A furious roar erupted from the serpent’s mouth, filled with extreme misery. Its beastly jaws opened even wider, and if one looked carefully inside, one could see Lin Chen gripping the sword hilt, swaying within the serpent’s mouth.
The giant serpent dove headlong into the cold pool. Its gaping maw was invaded by the icy water, diluting the heavy stench of blood.
Lin Chen had anticipated this. He held his breath tightly and did not relax his grip in the slightest. The current crashed over his body but did not flush him out of the serpent’s mouth. Instead, it made the sword in his hands sway left and right under the impact, turning what had been just a single sword-slit into an even larger, ragged wound.
Waves of agony surged from its mouth. The serpent’s bestial nature was inflamed by the pain, driving it into a frenzy. It howled in rage; seeing the waves could not force Lin Chen out, it rose from the water and began swallowing the thick ancient trees in the forest.
Lin Chen had long been on guard. He glanced at the serpent, gathered Spiritual Energy onto the sword, then kicked off from the serpent’s tongue. Borrowing the force, he wrenched the sword and slid downward along the inside of the serpent’s maw!
The blade ripped open the serpent’s lower jaw, splitting its chin clean into two halves. As Lin Chen dropped out from between the serpent’s jaws, torrents of scalding hot blood gushed from its mouth like a waterfall, dyeing the yellow earth red.
Lin Chen tapped down lightly onto the ground, narrowly avoiding the spray of that rank blood. The giant serpent, seemingly sensing his departure, fixed on him with a gaze full of venomous hatred. Yet its condition was clearly dire: its lower jaw was split wide, and blood dripped incessantly.
Lin Chen held the sword at an angle, his expression utterly unruffled, as if what he had just done had nothing to do with him.
Though unafraid, Lin Chen remained very cautious. The giant serpent knew its life would not last much longer; it spent the last of its strength in pursuit, wanting to drag this instigator down to the grave with it!
Lin Chen was no fool. At this point, no matter how you looked at it, this serpent was doomed. His body flickered through the forest, leading the serpent on a chase among the trees, using the ancient trunks as cover to continuously wear down the last of its strength.
More importantly, Lin Chen was worried that, in its final madness, it might choose mutual destruction and completely ruin the Ice Soul Grass in the cold pool.
And so, after this prolonged chase, at last, the giant serpent’s massive body collapsed to the ground.
