Chapter 2268: Chapter 2269: Pursuit
Lin Chen was struck by that beam of light, illuminating his body. He flew forward like a wild goose, and just before leaving, he also saw Chen Jie following closely behind.
The white light continued to envelop him; there was a chilling sensation within that beam, but at this moment Lin Chen felt warm inside, a warmth imbued with resolve.
He naturally guessed why Chen Jie had come, and it was precisely for this reason that Lin Chen felt even more indebted to Chen Jie.
Lin Chen sighed softly.
His thoughts were in disarray, but not because of the dangers surrounding him. His mind was a jumbled mess, and it was only after the light in front of him had faded that he regained his senses.
"Heh heh, now you can’t run away."
In view was Tao Yuyu’s pale face, the smile on it revealing a sickly appearance. He glared at Lin Chen and then glanced down at his severed wrist, filled with hatred.
"Hahaha, after so many years, I’ve finally escaped!"
Before Lin Chen could speak, Lu Kang’s expression was nearly maniacal. He laughed skyward, and amidst the laughter, he took deep breaths, greedily inhaling the fresh air outside.
"Lin Chen..."
At this moment, Chen Jie quietly approached, standing by Lin Chen’s side, his expression grave.
He watched Lu Kang warily as if facing a formidable enemy. A moment ago, without thinking much, he followed Lin Chen, but now they had to carefully think of a way to escape from here.
"Do you still have any formation talismans on you?"
Lin Chen slightly turned, his lips curling into a faint smile as he casually inquired of Chen Jie.
"I have two left."
Chen Jie replied, simultaneously reaching behind his back, where a flash of light appeared, and a formation talisman appeared in his hand.
"Go!"
Lin Chen uttered lightly, and Chen Jie swiftly crushed the talisman. A stream of Spiritual Energy flowed, entering Chen Jie’s hand, sliding over his body before rising onto Lin Chen’s, and scarcely a moment later, their bodies rapidly vanished from the original spot.
"Oh no, elder, it’s a teleportation talisman!"
Tao Yuyu was visibly surprised. This talisman was initially reserved for Chen Jie and Lin Chen before entering the Spiritual Realm, but now it unexpectedly found use in the outside world.
And after they left, Tao Yuyu was extremely anxious, urging Lu Kang earnestly because, for both personal and public reasons, he didn’t want Lin Chen to escape from his grasp.
"No problem, no rush."
However, Lu Kang showed no trace of urgency after he spoke, recovering quickly from his insane state, stared impassively in a direction.
There, lush green leaves blocked the view of the mountain forest, but Lu Kang squinted, with hawk-like eyes seemingly piercing through the gaps in the leaves, shooting towards the depths of the mountain forest.
Even though his earlier appearance was crazed, Lu Kang hadn’t underestimated the changes in the outside world.
The formation talisman Lin Chen used was merely the most basic kind, which transported a short distance, leaving an intense trace of energy, which might not be a concern for ordinary people, but for Lu Kang, it was an unmistakable trail to follow.
"Let’s go."
Lu Kang’s squinted eyes suddenly gleamed with sharp light, and then he moved. Like a large ape, he leaped quickly across the branches and leaves of the forest, carrying Tao Yuyu with one hand.
Even while carrying someone, Lu Kang’s speed showed no sign of lagging, and remarkably, it never slowed down. Compared to his time in the hall, his speed had significantly increased.
This was because Lu Kang had returned to the outside world, nourished by the Spiritual Realm.
...
"Have they escaped?"
Chen Jie and Lin Chen appeared in a place, she craned her neck, glancing back warily.
"They won’t get away that easily."
Lin Chen’s expression was serious; even though he didn’t know what other tricks the enemy had, he thought they wouldn’t go to the trouble of bringing them here without being prepared.
Saying this, Lin Chen, holding Chen Jie’s hand, raced toward another part of the forest, the softness of her hand had no time to register as his mind was wholly focused on finding a way to escape.
"Do you have another talisman? Use it quickly."
After running for a few moments, Lin Chen urged again.
Even though he had only run for a short time, the distance was not insignificant. With his injuries healed, his speed increased considerably.
"Hmm."
Following Lin Chen’s reminder, Chen Jie didn’t ask further, just crushed another talisman.
The talisman light swirled, and their figures disappeared again from the original spot.
"It seems this kid is quite vigilant."
Lu Kang reached the previous spot, found only some lingering energy traces, and saw no people in sight.
After giving it a thought, he understood Lin Chen’s approach, concluded that he was dodging every possibility of being pursued, choosing another spot to activate the talisman again.
"But such tricks won’t work against me."
Lu Kang smirked coldly, his nostrils flaring slightly, as the floating Spiritual Energy in the air seemed to be drawn into his body with each breath.
It was within there that Lu Kang continued his pursuit of Lin Chen and Chen Jie’s tracks.
Moments later, Lu Kang halted, dashing again to another location. In the process, he stomped on forest branches, making them creak underfoot, and as his feet moved, numerous leaves rained down.
"Found you!"
Though Lin Chen wasn’t slow, compared to Lu Kang, it was somewhat insufficient. Even though he was cautious, an opponent like Lu Kang, with his abilities, wasn’t easily eluded by mere vigilance.
"Stop running, it’s a deserted mountain forest here. No matter how far you run, I’ll catch you."
In a flash, Lu Kang landed in Lin Chen’s path. He descended from above, kicking up dust that made Lin Chen momentarily pause facing him.
"How will I know without trying?"
Lin Chen’s tone was indifferent, unfazed by Lu Kang.
"You’re brave; unfortunately, we’re on different paths. Otherwise, we could’ve been good friends."
After observing Lin Chen, Lu Kang seemed unfazed, instead nodding approvingly. They say the unseasoned calf doesn’t fear the tiger, and Lin Chen reminded him of his younger self.
Lin Chen chuckled disdainfully; such words were most meaningless.
"Hand over the Holy Pearl, and I can make your deaths less painful."
True to Lin Chen’s expectations, Lu Kang coldly stated, stretching a large hand toward Lin Chen, his tone chilly, with any previous amusement swiftly replaced by a cold threat.
As he took slow, threatening steps forward.
