Huh?
Someone?
The Star River’s Master’s voice echoed in Ye Qiu’s mind; someone was approaching.
His heart stirred, and Ye Qiu decided to hide first to see who it was, otherwise, opening the door suddenly might alert the newcomer.
As the footsteps drew nearer, soon, a figure entered Ye Qiu’s sight.
It’s him!
Unexpectedly, Ye Qiu recognized the newcomer, although the recognition was one-sided as he knew the person but the person likely did not know him.
This person was none other than the Pharmacist that Ye Qiu stealthily viewed through the Grand Emperor’s clock during his last infiltration, a guy experimenting on Du Gu Clan descendants.
If this guy hadn’t shown up, Ye Qiu would have almost forgotten him.
"So it’s him." Ye Qiu’s eyes flickered with killing intent, feeling no goodwill towards this person.
Ye Qiu decided to act first; otherwise, if the opponent realized all the strong beings here had been killed, he would surely notify the Heavenly Palace higher-ups.
No time to waste, Ye Qiu turned into a black shadow and darted forward instantly.
The Pharmacist originally came to continue experimenting on Du Gu Clan descendants because his research on Bloodline Power had stalled, chiefly due to the scarcity of Du Gu Clan members that could undergo dark transformation.
It was a long-established breeding ground, yet each year few new Du Gu Clan people are added while many are killed during experiments, reducing the overall number and hindering his research.
The Pharmacist had complained, wanting the Heavenly Palace to capture more Du Gu Clan descendants, yet the outside was rife with scarcity — even with the Heavenly Palace’s reach across the universe, their numbers remained low. Moreover, aware of their perilous plight, Du Gu members seldom showed up, staying hidden even when they did.
"Alas, it was hard enough to stimulate a small guy who could undergo dark transformation last time, and a single mistake killed him off, what a pity."
"Luckily I’m ingeniously clever, since there are no good specimens, I’ll create them myself."
The Pharmacist felt proud of his brilliant idea.
Resolving the specimen scarcity was simple — induce those penned Du Gu Clan descendants inside to undergo bloodline fusion, essentially encouraging intra-clan marriage to produce pure-blooded offspring, increasing the probability of Bloodline Power activation.
Of course, another issue could arise: if the bloodline fusion failed, the result would not be normal people, but fools or idiots.
But the Pharmacist did not care; it did not concern him. He only cared about encouraging more Du Gu offspring, which would dramatically increase his specimens.
"Sadly, there aren’t many experimental subjects who can activate Bloodline Power left; either too old or too young, although plenty of females."
"Never mind, today I’ll start with the little guy and make him mate with a dozen clan women..."
The Pharmacist smiled evilly at the thought: "It’s quite a stroke of luck for that little guy, hope he doesn’t disappoint me."
While muttering, the Pharmacist suddenly sensed something drifting past ahead, followed by a faint scent of blood permeating the air.
Suddenly, his expression changed dramatically.
This is the underground world with so many strong beings around, how can there be a scent of blood? The Pharmacist instantly sensed something amiss, darting his eyes around.
Indeed, he saw corpses lying nearby.
Someone intruded here.
The Pharmacist’s heart skipped a beat; those were ten almighty beings, all killed silently?
Swish.
Ye Qiu’s heart was full of killing intent, ready to annihilate the Pharmacist then and there, yet the Pharmacist suddenly knelt before Ye Qiu: "Spare my life, master."
Suddenly, the killing intent paused, Ye Qiu restrained his urge to kill, coldly staring at the person before him, realizing that killing him might be too easy a punishment.
Seeing Ye Qiu halt, the Pharmacist breathed a sigh of relief; noting the silent demise of ten almighty beings made him realize the intruder was dreadfully formidable, far beyond what he could handle.
He excelled in experimental research but his combat abilities were decidedly poor.
Thus, he knelt immediately, begging for his life.
"Spare me, master, I was coerced by the Heavenly Palace to work for them, please don’t kill me." The Pharmacist pleaded.
"Open that door," Ye Qiu instructed directly, ignoring the Pharmacist.
"Alright, I’ll do it right away." The Pharmacist stood, heading toward the control room.
Ye Qiu followed him, and inside the control room, Ye Qiu cautioned, "If you try anything, I’ll kill you instantly."
The Pharmacist’s expression flickered; he was contemplating how to escape or alert the Heavenly Palace higher-ups to deal with Ye Qiu.
But after Ye Qiu’s warning, his devious thoughts dissipated entirely; he sensed Ye Qiu’s deep-seated killing intent, and what terrified him most was Ye Qiu’s aura after transformation being of the almighty realm.
If Ye Qiu were his specimen, he could surely extract even purer Bloodline Power, yet he dared not entertain such thoughts now — aware of the almighty beings’ frightfulness, he feared Ye Qiu deeply.
The door opened, and the Du Gu Clan descendants inside looked perplexed; they were habituated to this life, and the sudden opening brought no joy but fear instead.
Seeing this, Ye Qiu’s gaze grew colder.
He grabbed the Pharmacist and headed toward the door; astute Ye Qiu understood why this situation occurred.
The Pharmacist must have caused this.
Previously, when the Pharmacist opened the door, it meant catching specimens; gradually, the Du Gu descendants inside began assuming opening doors meant suffering or death, inciting fear rather than joy of leaving.
"Sir, it’s not my fault, this is all the Heavenly Palace’s plan." The Pharmacist, having guessed Ye Qiu’s identity, dared not provoke him further, shifting all blame onto the Heavenly Palace.
Upon entering this small underground world within here, Ye Qiu swung his arm, pounding the Pharmacist to the ground with a resounding thud, leaving him dazed.
Simultaneously, Ye Qiu noticed on the opposite corner a group of labeled-clad Du Gu Clan members, all looking fearfully at him.
Especially the Pharmacist — he seemed even more terrifying to them.
Seeing this, Ye Qiu felt waves of pain; witnessing their condition starkly revealed the extent of their suffering here.
In an instant, Ye Qiu’s eyes moistened, looking at these fellow Du Gu Clan members he said, "Sorry, I’m late."
