"The plan is well-written," Yang Ping said, "but a few areas need modification. First, the number of animals; you’ve calculated six per group, but check the statistical effect to see if six is enough. Second, the observation time points; you currently have two weeks, four weeks, and eight weeks post-immunization, but the effect of the promoter might peak at an earlier time point, add a one-week time point. Third, for safety indicators, in addition to routine blood tests and biochemistry, add a Cell factor test to see if there’s an induced excessive inflammatory response."

Jiang Jitong listened as he took notes, without even raising his head.

"After revising it, show it to Tang Shun first, then show it to me." Yang Ping handed the plan back to him.

"Thank you, Professor." Jiang Jitong took the plan and quickly turned and walked away.

Yang Ping downloaded the paper and the opinions of the two reviewers, and carefully reviewed them.

The paper itself was well-written, and the data was solid, but indeed it had a fatal flaw: the sample size was too small. Each group only had five animals and did not perform efficacy analysis. Even if a significant statistical difference appeared with five animals, it was likely a false positive.

The reviewer recommending rejection pointed out exactly this issue.

Yang Ping contemplated for a moment, then began writing the review opinion. He was very polite but also very firm: "The innovation and data quality of the paper are commendable, but the small sample size is the fatal flaw of this research. It’s suggested that the authors supplement the experiment to expand the sample size to at least fifteen per group and provide efficacy analysis. If the results hold after supplementation, acceptance is recommended."

Originally, Yang Ping didn’t like reviewing, but later, he thought of it as an opportunity to engage with some frontier research, a way to communicate with scholars worldwide, so he agreed to review. Once he opened this door, almost every top-tier medical Journal invited him as a review expert.
