Surviving the apocalypse with a wife and a system! [GL]
Chapter 287: bath. She made sure to download the Chapters too, because she had no idea when the internet might become useless. The idea of being stuck in the middle of an apocalypse with nothing but a half loaded page and no signal was too annoying to accept. She wanted to be prepared for everything, even for her own mood. After a few more taps, she had a little collection of stories waiting for her. Some were fluffy, some were a bit tense, some looked like they would turn into long slow burns, and some seemed funny enough to make her relax properly. Bai Li put the phone down for a second and leaned back in the chair. Her gaze drifted toward the nearby window, then back to the screen, then she quietly thought that this was probably the best kind of break she could get right now. The world outside was loud and ugly, but here, in this little corner, she could still pick what she looked at, even if only for a while.
A little while later, Yan Cijin came out of the bathroom with the little dumpling. It was almost 10 pm. The little dumpling had almost fallen asleep while hugging Yan Cijin’s leg during her bath. Yan Cijin, holding the barely open little one, looked at Bai Li, "LiLi and I are done bathing, you should go take a bath." "Auntie, take a bath." The little guy leaned softly against Yan Cijin’s shoulder, his eyes barely open. Bai Li went over, squeezed the little dumpling’s chubby hand, and smiled, "Okay, you two go back and go to sleep early, goodnight." "Goodnight." Yan Cijin replied to Bai Li, and seeing that the little dumpling in her arms seemed to be asleep, Yan Cijin quietly carried the little dumpling out of Bai Li’s room. Bai Li took another shower, changed into clean clothes, and then comfortably lay down on the bed to rest.
The next morning, Bai Li got up early to wash up, then went to the kitchen to make seaweed dumpling soup. There was just too much frozen food at home, so Bai Li cooked two bags of dumplings, adding shrimp paste and luncheon meat, a kind of mixed stew. But at this time, being able to eat this was already a rare treat. There were so many dumplings that Bai Li cooked them in two separate pots, and breakfast was ready in no time. After breakfast, the group went to Yan Cijin’s house to move things, mainly clothes and daily necessities. Yan Laojin was still carrying things to Bai Li’s house when Bai Li smiled and said, "Auntie, let me do it."
With that, Bai Li’s thoughts vanished most of the things they needed to move, disappearing from their sight. Only the little one, playing with toys, didn’t notice. Yan Laojin’s eyes widened. "Bai Li, what is this?" "Auntie, this is one of my abilities. Please keep it a secret." Bai Li quickly said. "Don’t worry, I understand. It’s just so unbelievable." Yan Laojin was still feeling dizzy. "It is a bit unbelievable. You wait here for me. I’ll take some things back first." Bai Li said, then went out to deliver things home. She made five trips back and forth, finally moving all the useful things from Yan Cijin’s house to her side, including the double door refrigerator. After finishing that, the three of them started organizing. Bai Li placed the refrigerator against the wall in the living room, then plugged it in. She found empty spaces to stuff the frozen food in her space, but still left a lot of food in the space.
Yan Cijin had already woken up a little earlier than usual, but she did not come out right away. She was in the bathroom helping the little dumpling wash her face, and the soft sound of water and tiny sleepy complaints floated out from inside from time to time. The little one was still half asleep, her hair sticking up in a messy little curl, and every now and then she would rub her eyes with the back of her hand like she could not decide whether to stay awake or go right back to sleep. Yan Cijin crouched in front of her with her sleeves rolled up, carefully wiping her cheeks with a warm towel. Her movements were very gentle, the kind that looked natural on her but still had a kind of quiet patience to them. The little dumpling leaned into her without thinking, a little bit spoiled and a little bit dependent, and Yan Cijin just let her lean there, lowering her voice to tell her to open her mouth for a quick rinse. Bai Li heard the two of them talking from the kitchen and glanced over for a second. She could not help but slow down a little. There was something very warm about this kind of morning, the sort that made a person feel like the world outside could stay ugly for a while longer and it would still not be able to reach inside this room.
The kitchen itself was still a little messy from the night before. The freezer had been stuffed full of all kinds of things, and the counters were crowded with bowls, spoons, a cutting board, and a few packs of food that had not been touched yet. Bai Li tied her hair back casually and first took a look at what was left in the fridge and what was still piled in the freezer. Their supplies were still decent, but decent was not enough to make a person relax now. She had already learned that in a place like this, being able to eat properly for one meal was something to be grateful for. She opened one bag of dumplings, then another, and after thinking for a moment she decided to use both. The seaweed soup was simple, but she did not want it to be too plain, so she added shrimp paste and a few slices of luncheon meat to make it smell richer.
