Surviving The Fourth Calamity
Chapter 2048 - 624: Where Is the Polite Gentleman?Russell and Carpenter didn’t have much interest in the Rommel incident.
After all, it wasn’t someone they knew, nor did they have any previous grievances.
Their teacher ’Gilbert’ really had a wonderful personality... Even when he watched enthusiastically and calculated how many gifts Mage Rommel received and the types, he wouldn’t drag Russell and Carpenter along to watch with him.
This reaffirmed to Russell once again that their teacher lacked some common flaws of those in power... such as the idea that things he was interested in had to interest his subordinates and family members too.
These individuals in power would require commentary from those around them while they watched.
However, most people can’t possibly share likes with those in power, much less dare to speak freely in their presence.
Hence, having to accompany these individuals and carefully avoid speaking words that might offend these powerful figures influencing their lives or even fate... it truly is torturous.
To be honest, both nobles and mages are prone to such behaviors... It’s common to summon everyone to events.
The Clan Leader of the Hainarson Family exhibits a certain degree of this mannerism.
Were it not for Ulrich expressing great dissatisfaction with the constant summons of mage apprentices to the meeting hall, those apprentices wouldn’t have enough time to study.
Indeed, their meditation time was limited, but that didn’t mean they didn’t need to learn the basics of magic!
Some apprentices may give up due to lack of talent, but there are always those unwilling to let go of any opportunity.
Russell and Carpenter were quite grateful to Ulrich.
Though not everyone approved of Ulrich’s actions... but could flattering words acquire benefits when their talent isn’t enough for progress?
Russell didn’t think so.
That’s why he was thrilled initially when they followed ’Gilbert’, as their teacher was clearly a straightforward mage, uninterested in studying human nature, or testing student compliance.
Upon discovering the true identity of their teacher later, Russell felt more incredulous... ’Gilbert’ truly exhibited a laissez-faire approach.
While teaching Russell and Carpenter, he always started from the most genuine perspective... never showing dissatisfaction because of their lack of compliance.
Russell truly felt lucky.
Even Archmage Ruth would first test whether his students were obedient, probing in various directions until he felt the student’s demeanor sufficiently satisfied him.
Just like when Gilbert was severely injured... Ruth’s attitude was caring, but it was merely an attitude.
Russell knew that Archmage Ruth was under no obligation to save the unlucky Gilbert; he had fulfilled his basic duties as a teacher.
Yet, it didn’t change Russell’s belief that having a teacher like ’Gilbert’ was the greatest fortune for him and Carpenter.
Especially, every time they discovered another advantage of their teacher.
"Russell, do you think I can start crafting an Illusion Magic Array by the wall of our territory?" Carpenter asked hesitantly.
"If you want to do it, then go ahead!" Russell snapped back into focus and asked in surprise, "The teacher even allowed you to arrange formations in the Magic Tower, let alone outside!"
"But, what if it causes some misunderstanding?" Carpenter was still a bit worried.
"Don’t be silly." Russell immediately understood Carpenter’s concern... His sister probably sensed that the accelerated pace of their teacher’s instruction was a bit off.
Ever since realizing their teacher might be an outsider, Carpenter should have prepared for the possibility that she and Russell might have only each other in this world.
Therefore, after detecting their teacher’s actions, she got a bit nervous, which Russell could understand.
He also understood Carpenter’s worries... There are many matters that a young girl unaware of things might show too much reverence for Sia Tower.
Carpenter’s nature was good; she wouldn’t want to leave their teacher to pursue what she viewed as a stronger entity.
But she would hesitate and refrain from performing any action that might lead to trouble.
This wasn’t Carpenter’s fault; it was his failure to provide her with enough security... He should have discussed more with her after she discovered their teacher’s identity.
Though Russell had always hoped his confidence and composure would reveal something to Carpenter... yet, without certain information, she couldn’t find peace, and he understood that.
Russell softly reassured her: "There are some things I can’t tell you.
Since you’ll have to interact with others outside, and your spiritual power and soul power are not yet strong enough, even though the teacher gave you protective strange objects, there’s still a chance someone might find loopholes.
Once you advance to the fifth circle, things will improve.
But for now, feel free to boldly pursue what you wish to do.
Sia Tower won’t be a hindrance from our teacher, don’t worry~"
Carpenter blinked and nodded in a daze... She had imagined their teacher’s identity to be rather high, yet perhaps still underestimated him a bit.
The more one learns, the more one reveres the unknown.
Her Mage Level slowly rose, her power indeed grew, but after glimpsing a sliver of the power, she felt awe toward the dreadful mighty ones.
While Carpenter knew that it might relate to her lack of attack power, she still couldn’t gain confidence.
Yet she was indeed afraid that after the teacher left, she’d face someone’s malicious revenge for offending them.
Carpenter of course knew that Russell, as the teacher’s formal student, knew more than her.
And given Russell’s intelligence... He must have thought of what Carpenter imagined.
Seeing her brother’s unconcerned expression wrote over his face, Carpenter felt instantly relieved.
That’s the absolute confidence that irrespective of whoever comes, it won’t affect their lives.
Carpenter finally felt calm, she grinned and tilted her head: "Then I’ll go?"
"Go ahead, have fun." Russell responded with an affirming smile.
-----------------
Hilbert turned to look at the two children coming and going outside.
He actually felt a slight twinge of softness in that instant.
Carpenter’s occasional bouts of insecurity presumably stemmed from her outer sect disciple-like status.
This girl’s personality was truly nice; she didn’t let differing treatment between herself and Russell cause any negative emotions. Yet sometimes, when she couldn’t grasp the situation, this slight confusion showed.
Hill indeed felt a bit of sympathy for her... At times he knew less about her, he didn’t feel much.
Yet, this girl’s inherent goodness did evoke a trace of softness in his heart.
But he couldn’t act upon it.
If he gave two people with such a massive talent gap equal treatment... That would truly be a mistake.
This wasn’t Hill’s fault.
He let out a gentle breath... Truly uncertain how those mages who took in dozens of students managed to balance this mindset.
Perhaps taking on too many at once might work better?
Hilbert shook his head.
He couldn’t ponder such troublesome issues but made a firm decision: From now on, when accepting students, he would only select formal students.
No matter who asks, he would not take such outer disciples.
Hill knew he absolutely couldn’t ignore the children following him... Just as his initial attitude toward Carpenter, once he knew this child better, he couldn’t maintain it.
If he had always left Carpenter-related matters solely for Russell to handle, surely today’s slight heartache wouldn’t occur.
Yet he was the type to have soft ears, inevitably incapable of accomplishing that.
The only solution was simply not to accept them.
Hilbert frustratedly glanced up at the grand screen... Then immediately tossed Carpenter aside into the clouds.
Glaysia appeared!
The beautiful, elegant Princess of Hell, arriving with a huge bouquet!
The beautiful Moonlight Rose shimmered with diamond-like brilliance under the twilight glow, highlighting Glaysia’s glamorous face, making it exceptionally exquisite.
She stood gracefully before Rommel’s tower door, a stunning white raven spiraled around her, joyfully exclaiming: "The beautiful Grand Magus Glacia has arrived, why is no one opening the door?
Where are the courteous gentlemen?"
