Surviving the Infinite Survival Game by Exploiting Glitches
Chapter 16 Scavenging and HoardingSeeing that Ghost Vine could shrink itself, the survivors were even more shocked and became even more unwilling to confront it.
At this point, they understood that Lin Yun’s sudden appearance had merely been a warning to them. As for Wu Dayong... he had most likely angered someone, which was why he had been killed.
Lin Yun ignored them, picked up Wu Dayong’s fruit knife, and left with Ghost Vine.
They found a relatively clean place to sit down and have lunch. Lin Yun had eaten a sausage that morning, and now her stomach was beginning to protest.
As Lin Yun opened the lid of the rice bowl, she was about to scoop some out for Ghost Vine when she suddenly remembered that she didn’t have any chopsticks.
"System, I suggest that when rewarding food for a mission, you should provide the appropriate utensils as well."
[Feedback received. The system is currently being improved.]
Lin Yun was satisfied with the response, but that still didn’t solve her immediate problem. There were no chopsticks for the meal. She couldn’t exactly eat with her hands, could she?
Seeing that Lin Yun hadn’t started eating, Ghost Vine grew a little anxious.
What’s wrong? Does she not want to share with me? No way! It’s a deal!
[Eating? Why aren’t you eating? Come on! Time to eat!]
"There are no chopsticks, Xiao Teng."
[Chopsticks? What are those?]
"Two thin, long sticks."
Lin Yun gestured with her fingers.
[Wait!]
Ghost Vine stretched out two thin, long tendrils. They then broke off on their own and fell to the ground.
Lin Yun: "..."
She picked up the two vine pieces with a complicated expression.
Oh.
So these were its version of "chopsticks."
Ghost Vine was instantly satisfied after using the makeshift chopsticks to shovel some rice onto the lid.
After the meal, Ghost Vine went back and cleaned up Wu Dayong’s body, leaving behind a pile of bones. It then ran over and asked Lin Yun to hand them over.
After accepting the bone-submission task, Lin Yun turned her head and glanced at the white bones in the corner.
Thankfully, Ghost Vine had cleaned them quite thoroughly. If there were still bits of flesh or anything strange stuck to them, she probably would have vomited up the food she had just eaten.
She remembered seeing online that the human body had 206 bones. Ten bones were worth two points, meaning a complete skeleton could earn 41.2 points.
After submitting the bones, Lin Yun left the area with Ghost Vine and continued searching for supplies.
Food was out of the question for now. Those shelves full of packages would keep her busy for quite some time.
What she needed now was medicine.
No matter when or what kind of disaster struck, besides food, the most important thing was undoubtedly life-saving medicine.
But to be honest, the chances of finding medicine in this small town were extremely low. It had either already been taken by the original inhabitants or looted by other survivors.
Speaking of the original inhabitants, Lin Yun couldn’t help wondering what had happened to them when the world suddenly underwent such a drastic transformation.
Had they, like in those novels, already established a new habitable base?
Lin Yun shook her head.
As someone who now lived in the mountains, she was destined to have little contact with the original inhabitants.
After walking for a while, Lin Yun found another department store. There wasn’t much left inside, but since she was already there, she decided to go in and see if there were any useful items remaining.
Ghost Vine landed on the ground, darted inside in a flash, and quickly emerged again.
[It’s safe inside!]
The owner of this department store had also kept several potted plants inside. After being affected by the changes in the world, they had grown wildly. Once their leaves reached the ceiling, they continued growing horizontally.
Lin Yun glanced at the still-sturdy flowerpots and wondered how these bonsai plants had managed to survive without water.
She casually looked over the shelves in the department store.
This store was much larger than the previous general store, and quite a few items remained.
She walked up to the shelves and carefully examined the items, looking for anything she could use.
"Xiao Teng, can you clear out this shelf for me? I want to see what’s inside."
[Okay!]
Ghost Vine, which had been wandering around aimlessly, immediately rushed over to help after hearing Lin Yun’s request.
Lin Yun pointed to a nearly empty shelf.
Once Ghost Vine cleared it out, she could use the shelf to temporarily organize the things she found, which would save backpack space.
While Ghost Vine was busy, Lin Yun began scavenging the store again.
Kettles?
Take two!
Hair dryers?
Take two of those too!
Power strips?
There are quite a few. Take two!
There was actually quite a lot of food left in this department store, perhaps because the store didn’t sell food regularly. People who came here probably left immediately after realizing there was nothing edible.
On top of one of the shelves were several plastic boxes.
Lin Yun dragged over a small stool, stood on it, and looked through them.
She discovered that they were all disposable food containers.
This was great!
She could use one and throw it away without feeling guilty. There was no need to wash dishes afterward.
Lin Yun hated washing dishes the most.
There were three different styles of disposable containers, and she took them all down and placed them on the shelf that Ghost Vine had cleared earlier.
Just as she was about to turn around and pick up something else, a girl wielding a kitchen knife suddenly rushed in from outside.
The girl froze.
She had come here after spotting the department store and thought she would look around for anything useful. She hadn’t expected to find someone inside.
She stood nervously at the doorway, caught in a dilemma.
There were still quite a few things left inside, and she didn’t want to give them up so easily.
Lin Yun glanced at her from head to toe, said nothing, and continued collecting what she needed.
She felt reassured knowing that Ghost Vine was keeping watch over her shelf.
Seeing that Lin Yun didn’t object to her presence, Chen Anna breathed a sigh of relief and began selecting the things she needed.
When she noticed the shelf Lin Yun had cleared, she was about to approach it when a vine suddenly struck the ground in front of her.
Chen Anna was startled and quickly took several steps back.
Ghost Vine stood on the fourth shelf, waving its tendrils as a warning.
Don’t come any closer!
Chen Anna swallowed nervously and glanced at Lin Yun, who was still calmly picking through the supplies.
She immediately understood.
These vines seemed to have something to do with that girl. This shelf probably contained items Lin Yun had already claimed.
She had originally thought about taking whatever was conveniently available because the shelf seemed to contain a wide variety of useful things.
But now that she knew someone had already claimed it, she naturally wouldn’t try to take them.
Lin Yun then brought out a stack of pretty bowls and plates and placed them on the shelf.
Although they would probably use disposable bowls and chopsticks more often, they couldn’t completely do without proper tableware.
She also found quite a few disposable chopsticks and spoons.
Once everything was packed onto the shelf, one shelf was no longer enough.
"Xiao Teng, clear this one out too."
Lin Yun pointed to the shelf beside her and placed the full shelf’s contents into her backpack.
Ghost Vine deftly moved the items to the ground and waited for Lin Yun to bring over more supplies.
Lin Yun found a large quantity of tissues on the last shelf.
She simply moved the entire shelf away.
But thinking about the girl from earlier, she left two packs of tissues on the ground.
Looking at the shelves now filled with supplies, Lin Yun was satisfied.
She put everything into her backpack and prepared to leave the department store.
If it weren’t for the limited storage space in her Shelter, she would have loved to empty the entire department store.
