Surviving the Infinite Survival Game by Exploiting Glitches
Chapter 58 Returning to TownHalf an hour later, Lin Yun fell silent as she stared at the pile of supplies that had grown as tall as a small mountain.
What could she even say?
But she really couldn’t take all of it with her.
They picked out some useful items, stuffed them into a woven bag, and continued upstairs.
After spending two days exploring several nearby e-commerce office buildings, Lin Yun leisurely made her way back toward the town.
Before leaving the city, Lin Yun made a special detour to water the two mutated, talkative metasequoia trees before quickly running away.
She was terrified that they would catch her and force her to stay for another five-cent chat.
After Lin Yun’s polite refusal, the tabby cat slowed down and stopped running wildly.
As they approached the town, Lin Yun suddenly sensed someone watching them.
She quickly climbed onto the tabby cat’s back and directed it toward another location.
Seeing the tabby cat flash past, Li Ping became a little excited.
Wasn’t this the tabby cat that had delivered two notes to them and saved them once before?
So this tabby cat actually lived in the town?!
"Squad Leader Lu! That tabby cat just passed by here! But it seems to have noticed us, so it went somewhere else."
Lu Jingnian was startled and immediately took the binoculars.
"Which direction did it go?"
Li Ping pointed toward the direction where the cat had disappeared, but the tabby cat had been too fast and had already vanished.
Lu Jingnian sighed.
"Oh well. It’s fine. Since it’s avoiding us, let’s not bother looking for it. We don’t want to cause it any trouble."
"Didn’t we bring some cat food? Let’s put some more in town later. Cats have a good sense of smell. It should come and eat it."
"Yes!"
Lu Jingnian had come to the town specifically to wait for Lin Yun, but after waiting for two or three days without seeing her, he had begun to worry that she might have encountered some of the mutated animals after they escaped.
After having Ghost Vine investigate, Lin Yun finally learned that the people waiting here were Lu Jingnian and his group.
Had the zoo incident been resolved?
Were they here to discuss something with her?
After thinking for a moment, Lin Yun took Ghost Vine with her and left the tabby cat behind to wait for her while she went to find Lu Jingnian.
This time, Lu Jingnian had brought only Xiao Fei and Li Ping with him.
Xiao Fei was the first to spot Lin Yun.
"Little Lin!"
Lu Jingnian turned around, and the moment he saw her, his expression visibly relaxed.
"You haven’t been wandering around these past two days, have you?"
Lin Yun shook her head.
How could she possibly tell them that she had gone straight into the city that very day?
Or that she had secretly followed those mutated animals all the way?
If she told them, these people would definitely try to persuade her to go to the base.
"That’s good, then."
"Has the zoo situation been resolved?" Lin Yun asked, pretending that she knew nothing.
Li Ping quickly answered, "Yeah, it’s been resolved. But it’s strange. The animals suddenly scattered on their own while we were fighting them that day. It really surprised us."
"It felt... like they suddenly woke up," Xiao Fei added from the side.
"Suddenly woke up?"
Lu Jingnian nodded.
"Yes. Those animals attacked us frantically at first, but as the battle continued, they suddenly stopped, as if they had regained their senses. Then they seemed a little frightened and ran away."
Lin Yun blinked and asked curiously, "Did you kill all of them? Or did you let them go?"
"We won’t chase after those that escaped. But those that are bloodthirsty and have harmed humans must be killed."
"Animals are naturally wild, and once they’ve attacked humans and tasted blood, they’re more likely to attack people again."
"As for those that escaped, Earth is still their home. We can’t deny them every bit of living space."
Lin Yun didn’t continue discussing the matter.
Instead, she asked about something else.
"What did your base say?"
"The base agreed to the trade, but the amount is a little too small."
Lu Jingnian hesitated before continuing.
"Could you let us see that peach tree? If possible, we’d like to transplant it back to the base. You can name your terms."
With a peach tree, they would be able to produce fresh fruit.
"No."
Lin Yun refused immediately.
Putting aside the fact that she had already claimed that the peach tree was growing in the courtyard of her home, the peaches she had obtained had actually come from the mountain.
Why would she lead them there to dig it up?
Besides, that peach tree wasn’t even hers.
The Monkey King had led her there.
How could she possibly take people there to dig it up?
What good would it do?
What if the tree was damaged or mutated after being transplanted?
Who would she complain to then?
It was impossible.
"Then... would it be alright if we broke off some peach branches?"
Lu Jingnian asked tentatively.
"We have scholars at the base who specialize in agriculture. They could try to cultivate them."
But Lin Yun still shook her head.
She didn’t want to agree to anything involving the peach tree.
No one could predict what that peach tree might become in the future.
What if it mutated later?
What if the peach branches mutated after being cultivated into new trees?
If the mutated peach trees turned out to be strange or aggressive, wouldn’t people curse her to death?
Although she would no longer be in this world after thirty days, she didn’t want to leave behind anything dangerous because of her.
However...
Before leaving this world, she could tell Lu Jingnian about the abandoned orchard on the mountain.
But she would first need to obtain the Monkey King’s permission.
Otherwise, she wouldn’t tell Lu Jingnian and the others anything.
"In that case, I won’t ask anymore."
Lu Jingnian smiled helplessly.
"I’m afraid you’ll be unhappy if I keep asking."
He then motioned for Xiao Fei to take out the things they had brought.
It was a large bag filled with supplies.
"These are the foods the base can offer in exchange. Would you like to take a look?"
Lin Yun didn’t stand on ceremony and immediately checked the contents.
There were many different kinds of food, and most of them were filling.
There were quite a few compressed biscuits, making up nearly half of the supplies.
The rest was more varied: packaged instant noodles, self-heating hot pots, bread, canned food, and so on.
As for fresh vegetables, fruits, and meat...
There weren’t any.
"How is it?" Lu Jingnian asked. "Not bad, right?"
Lin Yun nodded.
"Not bad. These things can be stored for quite a long time. The exchange is worth it."
She stood up.
"I forgot to bring my peaches. Should I go back and get them?"
"Do you need any help?"
Lu Jingnian immediately asked.
"There should be quite a lot of peaches. We’re not trying to find out where you live. We’re just worried that you won’t be able to carry them all by yourself."
Lin Yun waved her hand dismissively.
"It’s no big deal. I’ll be back in a little while. Just leave these things here for now."
The three of them had no objections and stayed where they were to wait for her.
Lu Jingnian suddenly looked at Li Ping.
"Didn’t you two say you wanted to trade with her too? Why didn’t you mention it earlier? Aren’t you afraid you won’t get your share later?"
Although Li Ping was tempted by those huge, juicy peaches, he knew just how large each peach was.
He had already negotiated a trade with the base for some peaches.
If he brought it up again now, wouldn’t he just be adding another burden to Lin Yun?
"Sigh, it’s fine. We can talk about it later."
Li Ping smiled helplessly.
"She won’t let us help her anyway. Isn’t she just worried that she won’t be able to handle it all?"
"That’s true."
Lin Yun hadn’t brought the peaches with her this time.
So she would have to ask the tabby cat to take her back to the mountain as soon as possible to retrieve them.
