Sweet Rebirth: The Little Healer

Chapter 293: Must Avoid Suspicion

At noon, the two sisters ate lunch together. Zhao Nuan Yang ate at work and wouldn’t be back for lunch.

After lunch, Zhao Nuanyue asked, "Do you want to go to the hospital with me?"

Little Red Carp shook her head vigorously, refusing. "I’m not going. My kite is at school. The teacher is going to fly kites with us this afternoon. If I don’t go, another kid might snatch it and break it."

"Well... Hua is very nice to you, don’t you miss him?" Zhao Nuanyue asked. ’Little Red Carp doesn’t seem to have a good impression of Hua Yusen. It’s not hostility, but she’s not exactly close to him, either.’

"Hmph!" Little Red Carp wrinkled her nose at Zhao Nuanyue. "He’s my brother-in-law, and I’m his sister-in-law. Why should I miss my brother-in-law? We have to maintain propriety!"

’Good grief!’

Zhao Nuanyue nearly burst out laughing when she heard that. She couldn’t believe a little kid like Little Red Carp actually understood the need for propriety between a brother-in-law and sister-in-law.

’But that’s for when you’re grown up! You’re just a three-year-old pipsqueak worried about propriety?’ It was incredible that Little Red Carp could even say such a thing.

"You’re still little, you don’t have to worry about so many rules," Zhao Nuanyue said, not knowing whether to laugh or cry. "By the way, where did you hear all this?"

Little Red Carp thought for a moment and said, "The villagers in Nianqiao Village. Back when I had nothing better to do, I’d swim around in the ditches and hear them talk. ’That sister-in-law is so clingy with her brother-in-law, how shameless!’ I’m your sister, and our brother is your brother. After you marry Hua Yusen, our brother will be his brother-in-law, and I’ll be his sister-in-law. Is that right? I didn’t get it wrong, did I?"

"You’re not wrong, but I still think you’re too young." Zhao Nuanyue was even more exasperated. "You can worry about propriety when you’re grown up. You don’t need to when you’re a child."

Hearing her sister’s words, Little Red Carp thought for a moment and said, "Fine, then. I suppose I can bring myself to go visit him."

Once again, Zhao Nuanyue didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.

’Sometimes Little Red Carp was incredibly naive, just like an ordinary child. She could play with a single small toy all day without getting bored, and she loved playing with the other kids at kindergarten. But at other times, she acted far too mature. She knew a lot, but since she hadn’t lived among humans, her knowledge was often incomplete, leading to comical misunderstandings like this one.’

But that was precisely what made Little Red Carp so cute and amusing.

As exasperated as she was, Zhao Nuanyue also found it funny.

The two sisters went to the kindergarten to ask for leave from Mr. Wang.

"Mr. Wang, I’m taking Little Red Carp to visit someone very important this afternoon, so she won’t be able to come to class. I came specifically to ask for leave," Zhao Nuanyue said with a gentle smile, her voice soft and polite.

Mr. Wang’s face broke into a smile when he saw Zhao Nuanyue and Little Red Carp. "Alright, then. We’ll see you tomorrow, Little Red Carp."

"See you tomorrow, Teacher!" Little Red Carp waved politely. "Mr. Wang, my kite... can you watch it for me? Don’t let the other students break it."

Zhao Nuanyue finally understood why Little Red Carp had insisted on coming to ask for leave in person. It was probably to get Mr. Wang to watch her kite.

"Haha, of course. I’ll make sure it stays in one piece," Mr. Wang chuckled. "Since you won’t be here, we won’t fly kites this afternoon. We’ll fly them together tomorrow morning when you’re back."

"Yay! Mr. Wang, you’re the best!" Little Red Carp exclaimed, clapping her chubby little hands, her face wreathed in smiles.

Mr. Wang smiled to himself. ’How can this child be so adorable?’

Zhao Nuanyue said goodbye to Mr. Wang again, then left for the hospital with Little Red Carp.

But just before they reached the hospital entrance, a car suddenly came speeding around a corner, practically scraping past Zhao Nuanyue. To dodge the car, she kept veering to the side until she hit the curb and fell heavily to the ground.

Little Red Carp was thrown from the back of the bicycle, landing hard on her bottom.

"Ahh!" Little Red Carp cried out, rolling on the ground a couple of times.

Ignoring the pain in her knee, Zhao Nuanyue scrambled to her feet and rushed over to Little Red Carp. "Little Red Carp, are you hurt? Where does it hurt?"

Little Red Carp climbed up from the ground and shook her head. "I’m okay, Sister. What about you?"

"I’m fine. I think I just scraped my knee," Zhao Nuanyue said as she checked over Little Red Carp. She only breathed a small sigh of relief after confirming that her sister was unharmed.

Little Red Carp turned and glared furiously at the car, about to cast a Spell to make it explode.

Just then, Zhao Nuanyue grabbed Little Red Carp and held her tight. "Little Red Carp, don’t! I don’t want to see you faint from exhausting your Mana! Let me deal with this person, okay?"

Little Red Carp froze. Seeing the worried look on her sister’s face, she suddenly felt that, aside from the Spells she couldn’t use recklessly, she had no other abilities to protect herself, let alone protect her sister.

"But he’s a bad guy! He almost killed us," Little Red Carp said with a frown. "So we can’t deal with him even for that?"

Zhao Nuanyue shook her head. "We can, but it would take a huge toll on you. The last time you exhausted your Mana, you had to cultivate by Qingya Lake just to recover. I can’t bear to let that happen to my precious Little Red Carp. I just can’t."

"Okay," Little Red Carp said, nestling into her sister’s embrace. "That scumbag named Li Gongming is getting out of the car."

Hearing footsteps behind her, Zhao Nuanyue soothed Little Red Carp, then stood up and turned around. She saw Li Gongming walking quickly toward her, followed by two bodyguards who came to her side.

Li Gongming had a smile on his face and a look of guilt in his eyes as he stood before Zhao Nuanyue. "I’m..."

Before he could even get the two words out, Zhao Nuanyue slapped him so hard he was left dumbfounded.

"If you want to die, you can run into a wall or drive into a river! What are you doing driving like a maniac on a busy road? Do you really think your Li family’s money means you can get away with anything?" Zhao Nuanyue raged, glaring at Li Gongming with her wide eyes after slapping him.

Li Gongming froze, his head knocked to the side by the slap. He never in a million years would have thought that coming over to apologize would get him slapped in the face.

In his entire life, no one had ever slapped him!

When Li Gongming turned his head back, he saw that Zhao Nuanyue’s bright eyes were glistening with moisture. They were crystal clear and translucent, yet filled with rage. Curiously, he could see his own reflection in those beautiful eyes.

Her fair skin was flushed with anger, and her moist, cherry-red lips were perfectly curved. ’A mouth that beautiful,’ he thought, ’must taste delicious.’

For a moment, Li Gongming was completely mesmerized.

"How dare you!" The two bodyguards behind Li Gongming rushed forward, ready to strike Zhao Nuanyue.

Zhao Nuanyue stumbled back, but kept herself positioned in front of Little Red Carp.
