Swordsmanship Coach: Kill with One Slash
Chapter 256 - 174: Unexpected Event"Is... is he gone?"
Wu asked, stuttering slightly.
He didn't actually know how powerful that person was, but judging from the way he concealed himself, that strength was far beyond what their group could possibly fathom.
Therefore, even with his brash personality, he couldn't help but worry. He was afraid of what the stranger might do, since their group likely wouldn't be able to fight back.
Thankfully, the person seemed to be gone.
"He should be gone."
Ling said, pointing to the Night Wanderer Ghosts in the sky.
"Look. Before, those things were avoiding this area, but now they're spreading out. Some are even heading in our direction."
"True."
"Then we need to get going."
Wu instantly let out a sigh of relief and said.
The Night Wanderer Ghosts and spirit beasts didn't actually pose much of a threat to the two of them, so with the mysterious expert gone, Wu finally let his guard down.
However, Lin Yiming and his men were, after all, members of a special organization. They were far more cautious and didn't have the same carefree attitude as the two natives, so they quickly agreed with the plan to leave.
"That's right."
"We need to leave quickly."
"Is your tribe far from here?"
Lin Yiming asked.
"A little far."
"But we have transportation."
Ling said with a smile.
"Transportation?"
Lin Yiming was taken aback. That wasn't a word he expected Ling to know; he must have picked it up from their group. What puzzled him even more was what kind of transportation could possibly exist in a place like this.
"Yep."
Ling nodded, then let out a sharp whistle into the air. He then said,
"It'll be here in a minute."
Lin Yiming and his men exchanged glances. For some reason, this scene gave them a sense of déjà vu, like they were in a video game where you could summon your mount from anywhere just by whistling.
Sure enough, a few minutes later, a massive griffon-like mount flew over.
"Holy crap, is that a spirit beast?"
A member of the special organization next to Lin Yiming couldn't help but exclaim in shock.
When Ling had mentioned "transportation," he'd had his suspicions, but he had guessed it would be a horse or something similar at most. He never imagined it would be a spirit beast like this.
"It is."
"Our tribe has a Beast Tamer. She was born with the ability to communicate with spirit beasts, so she's recruited a lot of mounts and spirit beast companions for us."
"This one, for example, isn't particularly strong, but it's really fast for traveling."
WHOOSH! WHOOSH! WHOOSH!
Its massive wings kicked up a great gust of wind that swept across the land, stirring up clouds of dust with a deafening roar.
Ling stood his ground steadily. Once the griffon landed, he vaulted onto its back, waved to the others below, and said,
"Come on up."
"Damn, Brother Ling, this is so cool! When did you get qualified to have a mount?"
Wu asked curiously after climbing on.
This piqued the curiosity of the others as well. It sounded like getting a driver's license in the mortal world, where you had to pass some kind of test before you could hit the road.
"I didn't. This is my dad's."
Ling said matter-of-factly.
"..."
"Really?"
Wu froze for a moment, then asked blankly,
"Then when you get back, isn't uncle going to beat you to death?"
"..."
Lin Yiming fell silent for a moment.
'I don't know if riding this thing requires skill, but this Ling guy doesn't seem very reliable,' he thought. 'If I knew the way, I'd be tempted to just turn and run.'
As if noticing Lin Yiming's expression, Ling suddenly smiled and said,
"Don't worry."
"My skills are top-notch."
"Besides, my dad must have agreed. Otherwise, with his strength, how could I have possibly snuck this thing out? It's not like it's a lifeless object."
"You guys can rest a hundred percent easy."
"That's true."
Wu said, as if he'd had an epiphany.
In truth, ever since Ling had earned the right to control this griffon, he'd taken every opportunity to summon it for a flight. The feeling of soaring through the sky was completely different from running on the ground.
He hadn't revealed it before, partly because the situation hadn't been right, and partly because he hadn't fully trusted these four strangers at first. It was only now that he was being completely open, even bringing out his mount to carry them.
"Speaking of which, it's been a very, very long time since any outsiders visited our tribe. I have no idea what our people will say when I bring you back."
Ling said after guiding the griffon into the air.
"Have others come before?"
Lin Yiming asked, a little confused.
From what he'd learned since arriving in the Spirit Realm, the humans here all kept to themselves. While they might occasionally meet, cooperate, and communicate, they mostly lived their own separate lives.
This was because the environment of the Spirit Realm wasn't suitable for large human factions to emerge.
That was Lin Yiming's assessment.
Based on this deduction, it was possible that other groups of humans had visited Ling and Wu's tribe before, but it must have been a very rare occurrence.
And that was indeed the case.
"Of course."
"Even though we humans rarely interact, our relationships with each other have always been good. If we happen to run into each other, we're naturally not stingy about helping out."
"However, we've never dealt with people from the outside before. Perhaps only the oldest of our tribal elders have seen what the outside world is like."
Ling said slowly.
