System Mission: Seduce the Final Boss [BL]
Chapter 186: What is he dreaming?Even if it was a little weird, the time Blake had spent with Myles’ team wasn’t nearly as awkward as he’d expected.
They were wary of him, obviously, that much hadn’t changed.
But it wasn’t as glaringly obvious as before. Nobody was constantly watching his every movement anymore, and they had actually started speaking to him normally.
Even Alexis, despite still being suspicious, had stopped acting as though Blake might suddenly pull out a formidable weapon and kill everyone.
Which, considering everything, was progress.
’Wah. This is quite a relief. I kinda expected them to take advantage of Myles’ absence, and push me to say stuff or something...’
Instead, they had somehow settled into something almost normal.
"What are you doing?"
Blake’s head immediately turned.
Myles was standing behind him.
"Oh!"
Blake smiled.
"Hi!"
Myles walked closer until he was directly behind Blake’s shoulder.
"Hm."
His eyes moved briefly around the room before returning to Blake.
"Have you eaten dinner?"
"Dinner? I didn’t even realize it was evening."
Of course, since he was underground, there was no way for him to guess the time.
Myles stared at him for a second.
"I’ll put a clock on the wall."
’How about giving me a phone? But then again, Myles is a student, I can’t expect him to buy me anything... jeez, but I can’t get my hands on the allowance that deadbeat gives me if I don’t have a phone!’
Myles tapped his shoulder.
"Did you use the incentive spirometer?"
"Yeah."
"When?"
"...Eh, this morning."
"You should use it again."
Blake sighed.
"Alright. I’ll go get it."
Myles shook his head.
"I will."
He turned and walked toward Blake’s room.
The second he disappeared through the doorway...
"Ugh."
Blake looked toward Alexis.
"...W-what’s wrong?"
Nobody answered.
Instead, all four of them looked... disgusted?
Blake slowly scratched the back of his head.
"What?"
Alexis looked away.
Estelle suddenly became extremely interested in her computer.
Tania’s expression remained blank.
Zlatan simply smiled into his book.
Blake’s eyebrow twitched.
’What did we even do? We aren’t even behaving in an embarrassing or lovesick kind of way!’
They’d literally just been sitting around.
Why were they reacting like Myles had just announced he was going to cuddle Blake in front of them?
Myles returned a moment later with the incentive spirometer.
"Here."
"Thanks."
Blake took it and began using it.
He inhaled slowly, held his breath, and carefully followed the instructions.
While he was doing so, Myles looked toward Alexis.
"Stop slacking."
Alexis’ head snapped up.
"I wasn’t slacking!"
"Then work."
"I’m working!"
Myles looked toward everyone else.
"You all seem to have a lot of free time."
His gaze traveled across the room.
"You’re sitting around instead of doing anything."
Blake’s eyes widened slightly.
’Woah, what’s with the atmosphere...’
Estelle lifted both hands.
"I was almost finished!"
She pointed toward Zlatan.
"Go bother him instead. He’s been reading that thing all day."
Zlatan didn’t even look up.
"It’s an excellent book."
"Nobody asked."
Blake quickly finished his exercise and placed the device on the table.
Myles looked at Zlatan.
"Go buy something for Blake to eat."
Zlatan sighed as he closed his book and stood.
"What would you like for dinner?"
Blake blinked.
"Uh..."
He hadn’t thought about it.
"Whatever is cheapest. It doesn’t really matter."
Zlatan stared at him.
"It’s coming out of Myles’ wallet, you can go all out."
"I mean. He’s just a student, I don’t want him spending his money on me."
Everyone stared at him.
Blake slowly looked around.
"...What?"
Zlatan let out a quiet chuckle.
"Nothing."
He simply walked out.
Blake remained confused.
Then Myles reached down and took his hand.
"Come."
"Ah?"
Myles helped him stand.
Blake sighed.
He didn’t particularly want to return to the room yet, but his legs were still unreliable enough that arguing wasn’t worth it.
He carefully walked beside Myles, using the cane with one hand and holding Myles’ hand with the other.
Once inside, Blake sat on the bed.
Myles sat beside him.
"I’ll buy you whatever you want."
Blake raised an eyebrow.
"...What?"
"You wanted a phone."
"I was only thinking about it..."
"I know."
Myles continued calmly.
"I was planning to buy one."
"You were?"
"Yes."
"When?"
"When you’re feeling better."
Blake stared at him.
"How can you even afford a phone?"
"I can afford it."
Myles looked at him.
"Your kidnapping happened because of me."
"..."
"I’ll repay the damage."
Blake didn’t know what to say.
He’d been assuming Myles was just some ordinary student apart from his... activities.
’Where is this guy getting his money? Now that I think about it, he has a lot of fancy devices in here. He must’ve bought them out of his own pocket?"
Blake considered asking, then decided he absolutely did not want to know.
A few minutes later, Zlatan knocked on the door.
He placed a rather elaborate dinner in front of Blake: warm bread, roasted vegetables, a bowl of creamy chicken-and-mushroom soup, and a small dish of seasoned potatoes.
Blake stared.
"Huh, was this the cheapest?"
"No."
He asked even if he knew it definitely wasn’t cheap... it smelled too incredible, after all.
He started eating.
Myles remained beside him.
After a few minutes, Blake noticed Myles staring at him.
"...Do you want some?"
"No."
"You sure?"
"I already ate."
Blake scooped up a spoonful of soup anyway.
"Try it."
Myles stared at the spoon as Blake held it closer.
"It’s good."
Myles leaned forward and ate from the spoon.
"Well?"
"It’s okay."
"Just okay?"
He continued eating.
After a moment, curiosity won.
"Can you taste things like regular humans?"
"Yeah."
Blake raised an eyebrow.
"Then why don’t you have any particular preference?"
"I do."
"You do?"
"It’s simply not about taste."
"Um, then about what?"
"I prefer seafood because it’s the best option for ones body."
"Ah, so it’s about the healthiest choice..."
Well, even at the amusement park, Myles chose to eat at a seafood place. Even at his place, he decided to cook fish.
’Such a meticulous guy... I’m just weak to taste and that’s it!’
Blake continued eating quietly.
Then Myles spoke again.
"You’ll have to return to school."
The spoon stopped halfway to Blake’s mouth.
"Right."
He hadn’t forgotten.
"School is almost over. By the time you’re back, you’ll be in the final examination period."
Blake slowly lowered his spoon.
"...What a pain."
He’d completely forgotten that this was his final year of high school.
Ba-dump.
Ba-dump.
Ba-dump.
Going back and seeing Asher and Anthony, it felt a little weird...
Acting like everything was normal, that was going to be interesting.
He finished eating shortly afterward.
Myles took the tray.
"I’ll take this."
"Thanks."
Blake waited until Myles left the room before carefully getting up.
He grabbed the cane and made his way toward the small bathroom attached to the room.
Until now, he’d needed Myles’ assistance getting there, but when he wasn’t there, he just crawled. At least now he had a cane, so it wasn’t too hard.
He sat down on the little chair in front of the sink and began brushing his teeth.
His eyes were already becoming heavy.
"..."
He finished, rinsed his mouth, and carefully made his way back to bed.
By the time he reached it, he was barely awake.
Myles entered shortly afterward.
He immediately noticed Blake struggling to sit properly.
"Come here."
Myles helped him settle down, pulled the blanket over him, and tucked it around his shoulders.
Then he placed one hand against Blake’s forehead.
Blake smiled sleepily.
"Good night."
Myles covered his eyes with his hand.
"Sleep."
Blake’s breathing slowed.
Within seconds, he was falling asleep.
Myles left the room.
In the central room, Alexis was the only one still there.
He glanced toward Myles.
"...How is that weakling capable of fighting those soldiers?"
Myles looked at him.
"It’s none of your business."
Alexis clicked his tongue.
"You don’t know either, do you?"
Myles remained silent.
"Someone like him shouldn’t be capable of dodging bullets."
Alexis closed his laptop.
"He’s an ordinary human and AL-TECH soldiers are trained to kill immediately. If killing isn’t possible, they shoot whatever part of the body will disable the target."
He leaned back.
"Tania can’t find anything unusual about him either, so he has to be faster or stronger than the average human out of training only. Still, none of what he did makes sense, since his body is barely average."
Myles didn’t answer.
Alexis stared at him for a few seconds.
"Agh! Whatever."
He stood and walked out.
Myles remained there.
His eyes stayed open as he stared at nothing in particular.
Hours passed.
Thump.
Myles’ head turned.
A faint sound had come from Blake’s room, he was trying to get up.
Myles immediately stood.
He walked toward the room and opened the door.
Blake was stumbling.
He’d somehow gotten out of bed without his cane.
"Blake?"
Blake took another step.
His knee buckled, his body pitching forward the moment after.
Myles caught him instantly.
"What are you doing?"
Blake’s head lolled slightly.
Myles’ eyes narrowed.
Something was strange.
Blake’s heartbeat was calm.
He had nearly slammed his face into the floor, yet his heart hadn’t even accelerated properly.
Myles stared at him.
’He is sleepwalking.’
Blake slowly raised his head.
His eyes remained unfocused.
"Myles..."
"Yes, I’m here."
Blake stared somewhere past him.
"I..."
He swallowed.
"I wanted to say something."
"What?"
"I don’t remember."
Myles carried him back to the bed and sat down with Blake on his lap.
One arm secured his waist while the other gently stroked his hair.
"You can tell me tomorrow."
Blake’s eyes suddenly filled with tears.
Myles froze, eyes widening slightly.
His hand immediately moved to Blake’s cheek.
"What’s wrong?"
He wiped the tears away.
Blake’s heartbeat suddenly accelerated.
His breathing became uneven.
"I’m..."
His voice trembled.
"I’m sad."
"Why?"
"I don’t know."
Myles pulled him closer.
"It’s alright."
His hand moved slowly across Blake’s back.
"You don’t have to remember."
"I..."
His voice cracked.
"Myles..."
"Yes."
"Don’t go."
For a moment, Myles said nothing.
His eyes lowered toward Blake.
That heartbeat, the fear, the desperation.
It wasn’t ordinary anxiety.
It wasn’t even simple sadness.
It was... almost like grief.
As if Blake was desperately clinging to someone who already disappeared.
Myles tightened his arms around him.
"I won’t."
Blake’s eyes remained closed.
He seemed not to have even heard the answer.
Myles continued stroking his back.
But his expression had changed.
