Chapter 733: Chapter 733: The Worm of Death

Ethan nodded considering the explanation to be quite logical and feasible. However, a specific detail crossed his mind.

"If the queen is married to the king, which of the princes is her son?" Ethan asked.

Ash stared at him with a mix of disbelief and astonishment.

"Do you truly not know, my lord?" Ash said.

"Know what?" Ethan said.

"The queens have never had children, Master," Ash said. "In truth, they are slaves to the king—essentially trophy women. If they are exceptionally beautiful and possess some grace, they might manage to live a decent life. However, that is almost impossible to happen. Generally, the queens sent over are merely trophies that the kings keep as war spoils."

"Now I understand the whole picture," Ethan said. "Then so it shall be done."

Ethan paused and turned his gaze back toward the mutilated bodies of the Great Ancestors.

"I need more strength," Ethan said.

With a faint flash from his spatial ring, Ethan brought out Heidy’s still-warm body and dropped it to the side. Upon seeing the woman’s corpse, Ash froze breaking into a cold sweat. Everyone in the faction knew that Heidy was Ethan’s woman, and seeing her turned into a mere corpse could only mean one thing: Ethan was a heartless monster capable of killing anyone, no matter how close they were to him.

Ethan had brought her out on purpose, sending a direct and terrifying message straight into Ash’s mind.

"How can I ensure your loyalty?" Ethan said staring intently at the man.

"Master, if I may suggest something, I still have a few of these left," said Vel’Kha’Lems.

From the sleeve of the robe covering the Lich’s skeletal arm, a repulsive black worm covered in sharp barbs emerged. The creature wriggled its body, looking sinister.

"My lord, if you wish to control him for eternity, I have this Worm of Death," Vel’Kha’Lems said. "It is an ancient method we used to control slaves and prisoners. It will enter into his brain, and if he harbors even the slightest thought against you, the worm will devour his brain in an instant, giving him no time to react. It is an useful method for controlling slaves."

Feeling curious, Ethan leaned in closer to the creature. The worm squirmed gently, and when Ethan extended his finger, the creature rubbed softly against his skin, as if instinctively recognizing who its true master was.

Ash stared intently at the grotesque parasite and recoiled in terror, joining his hands in a desperate gesture of plea.

"My lord! Please! I have told you the complete truth! I will be loyal, you don’t need to put that in me!" Ash begged, his voice choked with panic.

"I cannot take any risks," Ethan said, looking at him coldly. "As long as you remain obedient and never attempt to betray me, nothing will happen to you."

Ethan turned his gaze away from the man and looked at the Lich. "How is it used?"

"You only need to place a drop of your blood upon the worm’s mouth, my lord, and then order it to enter his brain," Vel’Kha’Lems said.

Although he somewhat trusted the Lich’s word, Ethan was not reckless. He decided to consult Crul in his mind before taking any action.

"Crul, is this safe? Does it work as he says?" Ethan asked.

[Indeed, Master. It is a worm of servitude, not of death, though it has gone by many names throughout the eras. It functions like that, though it does have one limitation: it cannot kill anyone above the Dao Manifestation Realm,] Crul replied.

With Crul’s confirmation, Ethan hesitated no longer. He sliced the tip of his finger with a fingernail and let a drop of blood fall onto the parasite’s mouth. The worm absorbed the liquid its tiny barbs turning a glowing crimson hue.

"Do it," Ethan ordered.

Two Nightmare Knights pinned Ash down immobilizing his head against the ground. The parasite detached itself from Ethan’s hand and moved toward Ash’s face. The creature penetrated without resistance through the man’s nostril, forcing its way into his cranial cavity.

Ash choked back a scream, expecting unbearable pain, but after a few seconds of absolute tension, the discomfort vanished. He lay still, touching his head in confusion.

"Did it work?" Ethan asked, frowning as he noticed no obvious change in the subject.

[I feel the link. I can manipulate him a little through his connection, Master,] Crul’s voice resonated in Ethan’s mind.

"Bow," Ethan said in a casual tone, testing the link.

Ash felt a dull throb in the center of his skull. It was not physical pain, but a foreign and dominant presence taking control of his motor nerves without permission. Before his own brain could process the command, his torso bent forward and his forehead slammed against the ground.

"Ah...!" Ash gasped, trying to pull himself up through his own sheer willpower.

He couldn’t. His arms refused to obey him; his entire body belonged to the voice inside his head. Confusion and terror flooded him. He could not comprehend how the worm, which was supposed to act merely as a lethal trigger in the event of betrayal, could be manipulated so precisely to govern his every movement.

Vel’Kha’Lems observed the scene, his eye sockets blazing with spectral fire, visibly surprised. The way Ethan had just synchronized with the creature was fluid and flawless.

"Incredible, Master..." said the Lich, bowing his head in deep admiration. "The Worm of Death is a passive parasite; for us, the ancient necromancers, forcing a direct movement command required complex rituals. Yet, you have assumed absolute domain over his will in a matter of seconds. Your authority far surpasses anything this humble servant imagined."

Ethan simply stared at his hand, feeling the subtle vibration that Crul was channeling through the mark.

"Get up," Ethan said.

Instantly, the pulse inside Ash’s brain ceased, and the man jerked upward, panting as he touched his head with trembling hands. He stared at Ethan not just with fear, but with the absolute reverence of a broken servant.
