Chapter 746: Chapter 746: The Vanguard’s Fist

The flash of the long-range teleporter tore through the sky above the border fortress, leaving an electromagnetic shockwave in its wake. From the light emerged Marlon landing onto the main command platform.

Upon seeing him appear, the soldiers and guards stationed on the defense line turned with wide eyes. They recognized the imposing figure and the massive heavy spear strapped to his back.

Marlon took a quick glance around. Despite the overwhelming mass of enemy ships blanketing the horizon, not a single soldier had abandoned their post. All remained steadfast at their positions, weapons loaded and teeth grit.

A wild grin spread across Marlon’s face.

"Well, well..." Marlon said in a mocking tone, resting his hands on his hips as he looked at the guards. "Seeing as none of you ran off like scared rats, I promise you’ll all get a damn good raise when this is over. Fighting to the death is the true style of a Soaring Dragon Kingdom soldier!"

The warrior’s words ignited a spark in the chest of every man in the fortress. The fear gripping their throats evaporated in an instant, replaced by a burning fervor.

"FOR THE KINGDOM!" thousands of soldiers roared in unison, raising their weapons and letting out a collective war cry that shook the base’s very foundations.

Without waiting another second, Marlon flexed his legs and imbued his body with a terrifying amount of energy.

BOOM!

The mystic stone platform cracked beneath his feet as Marlon shot into the sky like an out-of-control rocket. He breached the clouds at sonic speed, leaving a trail of light and raging wind behind him.

As he gained altitude and drew closer to the enemy formation, Marlon’s grin froze for a brief instant. Seeing the full magnitude of the Crimson Sect’s fleet—an endless sea of warships blocking out the sun—he realized Pinky’s warning was no exaggeration.

Even so, his fighting spirit only burned with greater intensity.

With a fluid motion, Marlon unsheathed the heavy spear from his back, channeling his destructive aura along the metal blade. His voice boomed like thunder across the firmament, amplified by his inner energy:

"HALT OR YOU WILL BE DESTROYED!" Marlon bellowed, facing the entire fleet single-handedly.

However, the immense Crimson Sect formation did not slow down by a single kilometer per hour. The colossal Annihilator-class warship leading the charge continued its relentless advance, ignoring the warning as if it were the buzzing of an insect.

Marlon stared at the main ship and let out a booming laugh that echoed through the air.

"Hahaha! Damn ignoramuses!" Marlon shouted, his eyes bloodshot.

Tightening his grip on his spear, he executed a full-force thrust. The attack was no simple physical strike; the pressure of his aura sliced the very air in two, generating a gigantic blade of purple energy that tore through the atmosphere and shot out in a straight line aimed at the center of the main ship.

A explosion echoed across the firmament as the energy thrust impacted the air, raising a dense curtain of smoke and scattering the clouds all around. However, Marlon narrowed his eyes feeling his attack being neutralized.

CLANG!

A deafening clash of steel echoed through the sky. Marlon’s violent purple blade of energy was split in two by the flash of a neat sword.

A solitary figure emerged from the smoke. Ethan floated forward with elegance, wearing the imposing armor of the Heavenly Sword Sect. His gaze was cold, holding his sword with firmness.

Marlon didn’t wait even half a second to ask questions. With a roaring battle cry, he charged directly at him, turning into a blur of speed as he brandished his heavy spear in a flurry of lethal attacks.

"Let’s see what you’re made of!" Marlon bellowed.

Ethan responded raising his blade to block and parry every onslaught. The fight between the two turned destructive within seconds. Each clash between spear and sword generated colossal shockwaves that cracked the sky and made the ground rumble hundreds of meters below. Residual gusts of aura sliced through nearby mountain peaks and disintegrated the surrounding clouds.

Marlon launched thrusts capable of piercing battleships, while Ethan counterattacked with precise slashes of flawless technique. The spiritual pressure emanating from both collided in the air suffocatingly.

It was in the middle of that fierce exchange of blows that Marlon grit his teeth bewildered. He felt the true scale of his opponent’s energy: Ethan was at Level 1 of the Dao Manifestation Realm.

How is this possible? Marlon thought as he blocked an upward slash from Ethan that nearly tore his arm off. There are no intelligence records in the kingdom of anyone this strong in the southeastern sects! A cultivator in the Dao Manifestation Realm should be an absolute pillar in any major faction!

Ethan began to laugh out loud, a clear sound echoing above the roar of battle.

Marlon felt deeply offended by the mockery. Veins bulging on his neck in rage, he roared and charged into the attack once more, channeling all his power into a brutal thrust aimed at his opponent’s chest.

However, Ethan didn’t even take him. Adopting a fluid stance, he executed the Soft Sword technique. Instead of clashing head-on against the spear’s devastating impact, Ethan used the blade of his sword to catch the force of the strike and effortlessly deflect it to the side.

The diverted torrent of destructive energy shot straight toward an Invictus-class warship in the fleet. The vessel exploded into a massive fireball and began to plummet in a trail of dense smoke.

Watching the ship collapse into a thousand burning pieces, Marlon was utterly stunned. He was shocked that the man before him didn’t even attempt to defend his own forces.

"Is that all you have?" Ethan asked with ice-cold tranquility lowering his weapon. "Now try stopping one of mine."

Ethan raised his sword and delivered a simple vertical slash.

At that exact moment, the world seemed to come to a complete standstill for Marlon. An unfathomable pressure and a killing intent so harrowing washed over him that he felt his entire life flash before his eyes in a fraction of a second. The gap in power was so absurd that his body refused to respond paralyzed in terror, Marlon remained frozen before buckling under the weight of the aura, falling to his knees in midair.

The arc of energy passed mere centimeters away from him, cleaving the very firmament in two. Ethan serenely sheathed his sword, looking down at the vanguard warrior who was breathing heavily, his face drained of all color.

"Well, you didn’t pass out," Ethan commented with a subtle smirk playing on his lips. "You’re actually not that bad."
