Chapter 748: Loyalty on the HorizonChapter 748: Chapter 748: Loyalty on the Horizon
Instead of continuing his charge, Ethan stopped his advance dead in midair. With a serene movement, he reached to his chest and pulled out a simple necklace holding a smooth pearl without any adornments.
Upon sighting the object, the Southern General’s eyes widened. He extended his hand, and the pearl flew into his palm.
"This is...?" the General murmured recognizing the authenticity of the spiritual seal contained within it.
Ethan bowed his head with respect in midair.
"Ethan, young servant of Princess Isabella von Dragonia, presenting himself to report the success of the mission entrusted by the Southern General," Ethan said his voice with firmness.
Before the shock could fully settle, a figure leaped from the top of the nearest warship. Ash landed beside Ethan, kneeling in midair with his hand over his chest.
"Ash Legrave, undercover agent in the Heavenly Sword Sect by order of the 36th Battalion, identity number 38578-Z," Ash reported in a military tone.
The General was shocked by the declaration. A few meters away, Marlon, who was still struggling to recover, watched the scene with his mouth agape. Marlon remembered that secret meeting in the kingdom’s hall. He remembered Princess Isabella’s words asserting that the boy would complete a suicide mission in less than a hundred years.
How the hell is this possible? Marlon thought, feeling a chill run down his spine. That brat was a worm I could have killed with a single finger! And now he subdued me with such ease!?
"So it’s you..." the Southern General said, coming out of his stupor. "Little brat, it’s you...!"
Suddenly, the General’s expression shifted drastically to one of pure panic and rage.
"Damn it! Because of you, I forgot what’s important!" the General roared, clutching his head. "The area under Princess Isabella’s charge was attacked by the Blue Phoenix detachment! She is in mortal danger because of you, you idiot!"
Ethan’s gaze turned ice-cold upon hearing the General’s words.
"General, take me!" Ethan requested looking up with determination. "I will be of use, let me fight for the Princess!"
"I ask the same, sir!" Ash added without a second’s hesitation.
"Fine, let’s go! We will use the high-capacity portal at central command!" the General ordered, turning to activate the transport formation.
Ethan turned to Ash quickly.
"Ash, command the ships," Ethan ordered in an imperious tone. "Request confirmation, coordinate with the realm’s armies, and use all available power to reach the battlefield!"
"It isn’t necessary for your ships to pass through the central portal," the Southern General interrupted, pulling out a transmission crystal and tossing it to Ethan. "The battle isn’t that far from here, it’s being waged at the edge of the central south. Here."
Ethan caught the crystal and absorbed the data and exact coordinates of Isabella’s position.
Without wasting a single millisecond, Ethan communicated through the flagship’s mental link.
"Crul, set the course," Ethan ordered with coldness. "Send the ships immediately."
The hundreds of ships making up the fleet, which were already moving at high speeds, began burning energy cores for real. With a collective roar that shook the atmosphere, the entire fleet accelerated to its maximum capacity, turning into a swarm of luminous streaks tearing through the sky toward the central south.
Ethan and the Southern General sprinted at maximum speed toward the portal. The warships could not fit through the array, and preparing deployment matrices for vessels of that scale would consume massive amounts of energy just to shift them. Heading through on foot was by far the fastest option.
Stepping through the threshold of the high-capacity portal, the two materialized at the central south outpost.
The scene greeting them upon arrival was a complete slaughterhouse. The air reeked of blood and molten metal. Hundreds of warriors shrouded in ruthless blue fire battled fiercely against the battered soldiers of the Soaring Dragon army, who were barely holding the line against the onslaught.
Ethan didn’t need to ask questions or wait for orders. Feeling the chaos of the battlefield, a roar of pure fury erupted from his throat, and he launched himself straight onto the frontlines like a raging bolt of lightning.
Upon sighting the arrival of such high-level reinforcements, the realm’s army let out a euphoric battle cry, regaining their morale and tightening their ranks to counterattack with renewed ferocity.
Suddenly, a blurred shadow emerged from the smoke, attempting to intercept Ethan’s path. However, the Southern General moved even faster, blocking the figure with his trident and echoing a metallic clash through the air.
"Let the kids fight their own wars, Venerable Blue Phoenix Elder," the Southern General said in a serene voice.
"Damn you!" the elder shrouded in blue flames roared, his eyes burning with hatred. "Do you think you can stop me? Today we reclaim our lands and force you back where you came from!"
"That is something the younger generation can discuss," the Southern General replied with a cold smile, not yielding an inch. "How about you and I have a cup of tea? You know well that you cannot kill me, and if I wanted to finish you off, it would be just as complicated... so we had better let the youths handle their own business."
The ferocity of Ethan’s attacks turned the battlefield into a complete inferno for the Blue Phoenix warriors. Moving like a bolt of death, his slashes tore massive breaches through the enemy ranks, instantly drawing the attention of everyone on the field.
Through the smoke and sparks of energy, the figure of a warrior clad in full silver armor forced his way forward with great difficulty. It was the Captain of the White Unicorn Corps, fighting badly wounded while surrounded by several enemies.
Upon locking eyes on Ethan’s figure and recognizing him, the captain’s eyes widened. Having witnessed the terrifying display of strength crushing the invaders—a power that far surpassed his own—the captain did not hesitate for a single second.
"Ethan! Ethan!" the captain began to shout at the top of his lungs, using all his strength to point toward a distant hill engulfed in blue flames. "Help the Princess! She’s over there! Help the Princess!"
Knowing he no longer possessed enough power to break through the enemy siege surrounding the royal line, the captain could only entrust Isabella’s life to the monstrous young warrior who had just descended from the sky.
Ethan followed the direction pointed out by the silver captain and tightened his grip on his sword, feeling the pulse of his energy burn to its limit as he carved a path toward the hill.
